  1. Be Macho. No one remembers the man who "Pruned that Huge Tree"or the "Chap that found that Fungus". Climbing is a Mans job and this is the job of a Man.
  2. Don't think so mate.Dip your finger into Bar Oil,press your Thumb against it and slowly remove your Thumb. There will be some "tack" like snot from your Thumb to your finger. Gear Oil won't do that.
  3. Wrong kind of Rain? They should send me one,I could trial it.Then if it stands up to 100" of annual Rainfall its propper.
  4. I think we should buy one,all of us together at Arbtalk. When we catch someone stealing our Firewood, onto the Treadmill they go. It could have a Brake Band on it,you could increase the resistance of the Tracks depending upon the seriousness of the Theft.
  5. As you would expect it to be,its designed by a Tree Man,made from Steel and Welded together.Reg knows what he's doing. The Raincoat has been in a Bag presumably for the last 120 days.We get around 100" of rain a year here in Bergen,be interesting to see how one would hold up to those conditions.Probably well if I kept it in a Bag.
  6. If the Digger has Steel Tracks, weld a taller strip of Steel on every second Track plate.
  7. A couple of years ago I saw a Car that had driven off the Road and gotten Stuck a couple of yards off the Tarmack.A well dressed Woman was standing by the Road in the Rain.I asked if she needed help and to save an expensive Tow Truck I could drag the Car back onto the Road with the Hiab on the 16 tonner. Off to the yard I went, came back in the Wagon, set up the Crane, gently dragged her nice car back onto the Road, unclipped the Soft Strop and She F------------ just drove off. No more using my gear to help folks for nowt.
  8. On your White Board I couldn't help but notice "Random Gay" is this a official business practice or just somthing you hope your Boots will facilitate?
  9. Great news! Sika are tough little buggers.
  10. Yes.A Tree company without staff or Equipment might be tough to sell.
  11. That sounds like a sound blue print for negotiations.
  12. Calculate on net proffit? I see Tree Companies advertised for not alot more than what the gear is worth. And to me they seem to stay advertised for quite a while.
  13. Ok,good to know.We have no contract work per se.Its practically all domestic. The company name? Web domain? Etc.
  14. The time has come for me and my Business partner to go our separate ways. I am wondering how the Value of a Company is calculated? The Value of the Tools is easy, but how do you calculate the value of the Company name? Good Will? Income potential? Many thanks Mike
  15. In a clear Fell job we did there was a group of up rooted Trees. Some had fallen against one large one and continued growing. First of all,"Driving" is not a technique you should use if safer methods are available, such as a Winch or a Machine are available to push out the Tangle. However sometimes ,like this time, there was no Machine on site at this stage and I had to remove the Tangle to continue Falling the Trees.Working around the Tangle was not a safe option. I cut up the Tree Holding the Tangle up after clearing two escape Routes.I faced this Tree up across the Lean and weight of the Trees resting against it.Then I cut up each Tree that was up rooted face cut across the lean. Then I went back to a suitable large Tree and Felled it at right angles into the Tangle.Unfortunatly this Tree was leaning back and required Wedging. 16. How many Ton do you load out in a Day on average?
  17. Money well spent mate. Mine are two Years old and I wear them 6 Days a Week. They have seen the Needle and Thread a good few times but you need to maintain any item of Equipment.
  18. I heard a story in the States about a crew that had a particularly difficult client. One of the Crew did a Poo in her BBQ.
  19. Shame. Check out the "Factory seconds" part of the Website.Big Savings on Boots with Cosmetic marks.
  20. How about a pair of handmade Boots designed exactly for your job? http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/stock.asp Uk forestry is not really that hard on gear, either Machinery or Equipment. So a pair of these should last you ages. They are a bit tight at the start but become really comfortable.
  21. I think it is a very good idea, however I would concentrate more on the actual use of the Saw rather than theory of operation. Learning about Tension and Conpression in Timber is all nice, but thats only dangerous on big stuff and only some of the time. I suggest. Sharpening/Chain Tension/Fueling Correct Body Position when using the Saw,Kick Back and what causes it. Go out and cut some Logs up all day Then Take the Saw apart, see where its dirty,Clutch Cover/Filter/ how to clean it. Go Home.
  22. Fair enough. They are however still made by people who do not seemingly have "build quality" first and foremost in their business plan.
  23. Pick up your phone mate
