  1. dont know, i think its because the device is longer than a rocket and having the eye away from it, makes it just feel different to throw. BUT im using it and looking forward to seeing how i get on-thats the trouble with using one device (HR) for so long, its real hard to swap to something different as you have to learn all over again. similar to srt v dbrt.
  2. DED is a problem in NZ (sorry bro, it was mentioned at the start) but is limited in areas that it affects. In Auckland no wood can be moved from site, all wood has to be chipped, chip pref left on site, if not taken to designated elm chip areas, trees cannot be transported into neighbouring areas and so on...
  3. i havent had the device long enough to make up my mind yet, im having to relearn to throw as i cant really get on with throwing one handed and i dont get on with the "long gun" technique. i will however attest to how well the rope shield works at getting rope into and past tight crotches. and yeah DAK, we will have it to use in Africa my friend
  4. ha, rich can do a fly -2 -eye. incredibly short fly splice that bafflers me how he does it! tucking the cover back into the throat does weaken the splice a tad i believe but does give a smoother finish. i hated how the splice would look like its pulled open when retrieving a rope guide etc The Slaice is the best option for this rope i believe, its a very clever solution to the problematic splice
  5. NE Escalator isnt too bad bro
  6. Fall factor and impact force calculator I know its not accurate but does show how forces rapidly add up if you stop falling objects
  7. It was something like a 1000kg piece with 12m of rope in the system and the tie point being 30cm above the block. Like i said, I'll try find the link
  8. ill try and get the link to the calculator...
  9. a good friend dropped a very big piece of oak into a rigging line and snapped the rope. we roughly calculated the load at the anchor (using a forces calculator) to be 56t. the big impact block and 22mm dead eye took it but the rope snapped over the block. wonder what would of happened with the dyneema sling?
  10. Best post I've ever read..
  11. Mine arrived today, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. Its interesting for sure
  12. I'm sure the boys will put some on at the camp
  13. I've never known stuff to be heat treated, as long as you declare it they just bath it in solution- at least that is what happens to my gear every time I fly with it abroad and come back to NZ.as mike said though, just bring a harness, rope, lanyard spikes helmet etc..ie the basics and just for the rest to get here. There are shops in NZ and oz....
  14. take it on the plane and declare it as sports equipment-half the price of excess normal cost.....
  15. It runs through cams awesomely and is great for tree frog style access. A uni grabs it well but I think it would wear the uni pretty quick due to the cover. It's also really light so not sure how that would effect it flicking off the uni in control mode. And when I say fall, I mean a drop of excess of say 20cm but then again a hitch/will slide under that sort of load, I presume.
  16. Globe I'd say is a no go for working on. It's like climbing on cable, super super super static and it's only 10mm so hard to grip. I really struggled getting a hitch to grab it too. I really would not want to take a fall on globe....
  17. Kernmaster is static under low load but dynamic under a shock load or something along those lines bro, it's specs are pretty good but it will be interesting to see how it goes with friction cord. Got some on order so will be interesting to compare with the escalator, normal double braids, globe etc..
  18. I picked up 45m of escalator to trial from Treetools Today so I'm keen as to give it a blast. It feels a very weird rope bit the truth will be in Te climbing. Seems quite stiff and lightweight....
  19. I only posted the Yale vid as it shows a very high strength rope used in the wrong configuration breaks at a low load and a less strong rope, properly spliced takes a higher load. I think the irregularities were put there on purpose to prove a Point. I presume.
  20. pull it back out. once you have put the core into the wire fid do a core reduction taper and also snip the end into a small taper. you should be able to pull the core bury in fairly easy, a quick shock load will help it through.
  21. it works for me on Dbrt but not srt with the rope wrench. but the HRC im using does have a **** tonne of memory......
  22. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDIo-WZkSaM]Yale Cordage Ultrex vs. XTC Rope Static and Dynamic Test Demonstration - YouTube[/ame] also an issue of using the correct material for the chosen job. does it matter if a rope ios rated to 11t if it cant take a shock load?
  23. its "innovation" time!! nice one bro
  24. get the rapide, it has bearings. the standard has bushings. Bushings start to squeal after a while especially if you do quick descents..
  25. remember the RIG can also open easily in treework, it has no 3 way locking mechanism. just an obvservation...
