  1. i have an old open faced helmet but im going to change it as im sure its probably no longer up to spec' in terms of batteries im running a landrover battery mounted in the front ammo create, i will run the seeding unit for two days before needing a recharge
  2. i should have had a beacon on the bike for the work i have been doing recently as its a construction site, but really if im going to get hit by a digger im not sure a beacon will help, Also had to wear my helmet all day long
  3. i have done a couple of days work this month with the quad, it has paid the rent and the bills in a matter of days, but the work is very few and far between as especially increasing, i am having to be competative against 200hp tractors with big machinery, just try to specialise enough so i have been seeding grass into areas where trees have already been planted so the tractors cant do it, best bit is that when i've finished my seed bed is a lot better than the tractors can manage I will hopefully get asked back to help flail between the trees and also some spraying of docks that are coming up, so i really hope it does generate a good few more days work. But my battered old 250honda isnt giving a good impression and if the work is picking up its not going to hold out for many more days work, hence this thread dont know where you would sign write it? not many panels on it, only ones i have seen with any writing have been Police and Rescue services
  4. im not overly keen on the sit in job's like the mule, especially for stuff like reseeding slopes and i dont think they are as usefull on soft ground, never used or riden a yamaha, not sure what the local support here is like for them, but with hondas both my local agri sales places sell them and my local stihl/husky dealership service them so i will never be to far from somewhere for parts or servicing, im strongly leaning towards the honda, especially after seeing how well Andy's one coped in the woods earlier in the year
  5. i have ridden kawasaki's for work in the past mostly the klf300s for slug pelleting so have hundreds of hours experience on them, and whilst they are a nice bike for riding for long periods i didnt get on that well with them for hauling loads. I recently rode a kvf360 and have to say it was flipping awfull, especially at low speeds noisy and vibrated like crazy which isnt great if i get more reseeding and flailing work where you are generally only doing between 5-10kmh, also didnt like the seat which seemed very high and unbalanced for the bike. worried about the fuel economy on the bigger bikes, i ran the trx250 allday yeasterday reseeding and rolling and used about 4litres of fuel! although that said using 15litres a day isnt going to break that bank really. tempted to look at the honda 500 foreman, liquid cooled, CVT transmition with the electric shift option, and selectable 2/4 wheel drive, but not cheap. The way my shoulders feel as well i think power steering would be nice
  6. what are people running in the way of quads for work purposes, I have been out using my '97 honda trx250 today and i think its nearing the end of its useful life, especially as the bottom end appears to be leaking oil into the trailer on the way home, although i have earnt today nearly what i payed for it 4 years ago so it doesnt owe me anything. I have always used hondas, but after a lot of hard work on them, i wonder if the aircooled system is not great, they get roasting hot if working with a load for a long time, although i do like the fact they are normally so easy to work so what are other peoples thoughts,
  7. PM me your email addy an i will send you a copy of the workshop manual if i can find it, it will have the part numbers just tell your dealer the part numbers and they should be able to get parts within a matter of days
  8. i will wait till ive had a look before i bid
  9. i was quoted about £1400 for a new one at LAMMA earlier in the year, there is a guy selling cheap ones on ebay for very low starting bids, are the axles fixed or on a beam that can swing for going over stumps, if they are fixed i would be wary, also what is the towing hitch like is it a swivel type that can rotate 360? so if the trailer is on a slope its not putting pressure on your tow ball? these will indicate how well thought out it is or if its just a cheapy job
  10. i got one cadburys creme egg, not a proper easter egg in sight
  11. im a husky fan but the local utilities co guys up here have just switched to stihl 361s with heated handles, as they were the lowest vib saw they could get, they have their saws independantly checked for vibration limits every 6months so should have a really good idea what is lowest They recently had a 2year old ms280 that when tested was limited to 10mins of use per day!
  12. if your not paying for the fuel i recon the hummer has to be worth a blast, also you can drive a landcruise anytime, not many hummers for playing in the uk though
  13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250365794530 its the photo from this listing! when it sold for over 11k
  14. er isnt that the one that was on ebay earlier in the year from kent way?
  15. got shot of the wife? or got some little blue pills for the problem

    arbtalk

i was having probs logging straight to arbtalk.co.uk but when i went to threads in my history section i could get into the site ok. so i dont know if it was just a problem with the homepage?
  17. £39830 totaled up is that a new arbtalk theft record? thats a lot of hot kit to shift, i assume for that kind of kit they must have had some serious security? i really hope for the owners sake the insurance dont give them a hard time
  18. http://www.wildernesswood.co.uk/ under vacancies, looks like a good job for someone
  19. i have the wider bfg a/t's on my defender 130, i would say stick with thinner tyres for two reasons, one being wider will flick mud and muck everywhere over your truck, and also the MTs work on the principle of cutting through the surface to get traction so increasing floatation with wider tires is likely to counteract the benefit, when mine get worn it will go down onto the skinniest MTs i can fit
  20. just a long shot as a mate has a farm in north essex with cricket bat willows, they are having some serious problems with fallow deer knackering the trees, might what your seeing be historic damage from deer before the trees got properly established? mostly theres is fraying damage when the bucks (which seem to be disproportionately abundant in n essex) are shedding velvet prior to the rut, like i say a long shot but one to consider
  21. thats cool, had seen that technique in books but never seen it done, what is the take rate like with this technique? or is it the first time you've done it?
  22. I use orange at home and the farm, both are very quick took a bit of chasing around to get them set up initially but i think that might have been bt's fault at the exchange. from experiance i find it much quicker than my perants BT broadband, I have the wireless router at the farm which is ok but have the livebox set up at home and its quick and simple to set up and link in new computers/pda's and is compatible with the xbox 360 if your that way inclined, i pay £5 a month for unlimited access at 8mb speed, and it also comes with the second phone line which is free to land lines and orange mobiles, the advantage with it is that i provides me with a 0845 number for business use
  23. thats really nice, top work there
  24. Very sorry to hear that, it must be very hard for his family. Kind of puts everything else into perspective really
  25. if you need anything specific drop us a pm i run a 340e and its a great little saw, i run a 13" bar on mine, and wouldnt want much more on it, but if the chains kept sharp its nice to use for logs and small stuff, and very very fuel efficent
