sorry TC but you cant heli-lift over open public roads H&S and all that, although in my experiance the cars normally skid to a halt when the see a heli about 30ft above the road anyway and will park up and watch blocking the traffic anyway, heli work is the only part of my old job i miss although we never had road closures only used stop go boards and that was ok'd by the local rights of way authority

where did you see them?

im running 2 open fires and rayburn as the only sources of heat and hot water in our house, would say im burning about half a tonne per week (varies on the wood), but the open fires eat about 4times as much fuel as the rayburn, i do burn some coal as well otherwise i would constantly be lighting fires every morning, about 1tonne per winter. by my reconning from nov to march (6months) you will need about 12 tonnes, Johnty basically everyone thinks timber is free, i know lots of mates who have bought log burners and chainsaws and are suddenly finding that its not that easy to get hold of timber unless you pinch it from the roadside, If i didnt have access to the timber i need, i would pull it out and have an oilfired system in a flash, much more convient, not coming back from either work or a weekend away to a cold house that needs 48hrs to warm up again

Hi, i have used a stihl wooden sawhorse in the past for cutting logs, im looking at getting one of the ones that grips the saw and allows you to pivot it with one hand leaving the other hand free to slid the log along, most of the time its just for use on 4ft lengths of ash/sycamore, anyone have any experience of these? cheers Charlie

Have met him twice in passing, its great to see someone so enthusiastic about their work, but i know he has also caused a lot of concearn in the conservation sector regarding re-introductions, im indifferent i am currently working with 4 fishing clubs felling trees into the rivers for trout conservation so beavers shouldnt be to bigger issue and the dams of european beaver arent as big or serious as the US cousins, and could just be knocked out if causing a problem, and i think thats where the issue is that if they are reintroduced then management of them if they become problematic is contentious

as someone who does ag contracting as well don't take nix as gospal, else you will be bust quickly, use it as a very loose guide. His workings are normally ok for south east uk but generaly are up to 20% out on what you can actually get in the midlands, also the older versions wernt very helpful for woodland info, just quoted prices for uk grant schemes, and rental for sporting interests. just my opinion
