  1. looks to have been quite nasty several people killed by falling trees/branches I didnt hear about this till today, i notice that in one of the pics its the fire service messing about by one of the trees, so i was wondering in other Euro countries do the emergancy services carry out emergancy tree work? or in the UK for than matter, if a big tree comes over on a car (and i can appreciate that speed is essential for them!) do they have a trained operator or do they have to wait for one to get to site? some pics: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7848913.stm#
  2. i just use paint, click image on the top of the screen then resize/skew then enter about about 50% normally in the first two boxes
  3. just done mine, must try and run up more expenses over the next three months to try and cut the tax down a bit, no rebate had to pay £200
  4. Hmm i dont know about the cost, ok its about double petrol but i can leave it a can and not have to worry about it deteriorating for years, your never going to mess the mix up and either choke yourself or run the saw lean (unless you fiddle with the carbs) i mean running fuel that costs two pounds a litre in a saw worth a grand? for the piece of mind? I appreciate that in a commertial forestry situation that it may be expensive but hey, i was clearing lop and top behind a harvester the other day with my husky 340 13" bar it needed two and a half tanks of fuel all day, thats about what £3.50 at the most? as the new saws become more efficent and sensative to fueling i really dont see the problem with budgeting £10 a day for fuel, and i know when strimming etc i certainly appreciate the cleaner fuel after a long day, dont feel as rough and headachey youd be surprised how many dealers will try and scrap a saw for that, at the same time offering good discount for a new saw in an effort to sell saws
  5. Aspen all the way if it wrecks the saw then the dealer can sort it imho cant you just get the piston and cylinders replaced? would be best option on the 88 theres no point writing saws off just because of P&C damage, also dont just rely on the dealers word its not hard to replace P&C so if the dealer says nope its a write of look on ebay or contact either someone like Jonesie on here to cost up new, i on many saws have just used a cylinder hone and replaced the piston and rings and saved £400 saws from the dealers scrap bin
  6. Dave does that have a nice white bow and lacy bit at the top Andy, I hope you feel better soon and it doesnt drag on like the flu/chest infection/cold thing i had before christmas felt rough for a couple of weeks anyway best get back to HMRC's online tax return i will do it early next year honest
  7. I have seen that through the small woods association, many of there other short courses are also on green wood crafts, i quite fancy going on the corical making course

    saw tester

hi David I think my stihl one was about £85 from the local dealer, its a lot of money but does 2stroke and 4stroke engines single and twin cylinders if i remember correctly, it also works on induction so you just hold it close to the spark plug and it picks up the revs, i know there are some cheaper ones available but i think there are issues with them holding a reading long enough to actually see what the saw is running at

  22. Been out today clearing up some brash on a FC site in the Goyt Valley bit of rain, then sleet, then driving snow, ended up wrecking the clutch on one landy trying to get out with the timber trailer on the back (not mine as that had already broken down on saturday!) and tried to get back into the site just to finish some felling and nearly didnt make it out again had about 1hr30mins trying to get back out the site again, I'm cold, covered in mud and frozen, how was everyone elses day (and dont say tropical sunshine!)

  24. doesnt look the most practical colour for an outdoors dog
  25. Has there ever been a prosecution? i dont know, i have seen loads of photos of people using top handles on the ground recently especially in river conservation where waving a rear handle saw around can be a real pita, i assume it would be a breach of afag guidelines and hse would go after un-safe practises but in a domestic situation you only have to look at the amount of tophandles on ebay that must be going to the public as a nice small compact saw but i can see where you coming from, should makita dealers be making sure that anyone buying this saw has cs39?
