  1. thats what i was trying to find out, that standing dead wood is probably as part of a FSC certification on the site as part of the harvesitng for FSC you have to leave a certain quantity of dead and standing material on site
  2. what upsets you about it, the standing timber left? or the brash on the ground?
  3. what area are you in? as the funding is normally regionally dependant so if you fill in your location in your profile it will help people local to you give you a more detailed response
  4. nope i have it in my right hand trouser pocket so i dont have to faff about in the first aid kit trying to find the whistle if i need it in an emergancy
  5. the 090 still being made is a bit of a chinese whisper, stihl may make a few per year (possibly) but getting one or tracking one down is unlikely as i posted before you can still get the 070 in central and south america but you would need to find someone to ship you one back as i cant see stihl uk getting one in for you EDIT: as we both posted at the same time, a new MS076 would be a thing of beauty, it will certainly build your muscles up lifting them about, better for setting a mill on than the 090/070 style as the filler caps are both on the same side of the saw
  6. you could give Derek Crawley at Rodbaston college a ring hes their fencing manager, would probably be able to steer you in the right direction as hes a lantra qualified assesor, PM me if you want his number
  7. Bob is this in your LA role? if so stick with what they use as then you can use all the datasets they have accumulated over time and sending data and maps to planners etc will be a lot easier and save you lots of headaches, If its for private work make sure you dealing with software that will meet your clients needs, and can output files that are useful for them. But mainly choose something that easy for you to use after a demo, you dont want to end up with a product that ends up meaning you have to refer to a 500page manual everytime you have a problem, Also make sure what upgrades deals you get for the software so after 6months you dont find out they have upgraded it to version ?.?.0001a and that your version isnt supported by them so your on your own with it
  8. If you can travel there are a couple of places on the edge of cannock chase that run the courses quite regularly, or try DART Dart Trainers for the Land-based sector
  9. Max my old man had one and it was a bit of a pain, parts when needed seemed to be way way over the odds in terms of price and he spent ages waiting for parts as they werent on the shelf, he flogged it after about 9months and bought a disco commertial hasnt looked back since
  10. seriously looking at one of these uk made, UK wool and designed as a replacement for the swanndris Bison Bushcraft - Boots, Clothing & Outerwear
  11. my mates in NZ have told me not to bother with a new one from china, i have a orignal bush shirt and its ace, but i would love an original ranger extreme, but at about £100 if you can find them they wont be cheap or easy to track down
  12. just got mine, had been delivered to a neighbours yesterday, first flick through this looks like a really good reference manual covering most topics in one book that are normally only found when using several books, decent case studies, well worth the £30 to have on the shelf. Not sure if it goes into enough technical detail but i will decide once i have read a bit more.
  13. they dont have greasable bearings? blimey my 1990 entec chippit has greasable flywheel bearings, sounds like they took a step in the wrong direction there
  14. nonsense doesnt even begin to cover it, i mean fancy having a handle covering part of the text up
  15. spoke to the company this morning and all the places were taken with a couple of people in reserve, although they had a lot of interest so may run another in the new year
  16. Hi one of the farmers in my village stores one for a lad, its a smallish machine can only be 4ft wide if this is what your after drop us a pm with your address and i will get the owners details, its near Uttoxeter
  17. PDG or Pennine Helis are the best bet, as for residential, unlikely they will get permission to do the work, you need to pay for relocating the whole ground crew about 3-4people, sort licensing with CAA reguarding landing sites and refuel areas, you will be looking at 10s of thousands, They wont load carry over open public rights of way, Oh also they have certain distance restrictions from communication masts so if there are phone masts in the immediate area it will be a consideration
  18.
  19. Hi All, I have been looking to get a smaller strimmer to use for jobs where i dont need the power of my stihl FS420, as this drinks a tank of fuel about every 15mins (although the awesome power is worth it, its costly to run) I do quite a bit of work on sites such as river banks and as such stability is always an issue and when just controlling stuff like himalayan balsam then i dont always need a huge amount of power, and lighter and more mobile machine would be great so does anyone have any feedback on these type of machines plus and minus points i just like the idea of having my balance made easier by not hanging a powerhead off one side of my body, also will it involve less swinging of my body to move the cutting head as i wont have to twist my whole body. what are the vibs like compared to a bigger machine, and finally what are the like for wearing for longer periods of time, as tbh im glad when the big FS runs out and needs a top up as it wears me out quickly and im not the smallest of people Cheers for any help, and sorry for sticking this in the chainsaw section,
  20. Try ebay i got a load of bits for my M18 off there, also try a company called Garfitts, they just supplied me with a full filter set for mine and seemed very helpfull
  21. it was westfalia selling them, but they have stopped, they stuff is also badged as wilkinson sword so you could try that
  22. or you could buy a cylinder hone for a tenner if the cylinder isnt to bad, and a new aftermarket piston for about £40 off ebay ok it wont be perfect but its better than £230 on a new one, i have done a couple now, and they seem to work ok

    stihl

when i bought some bits out in canada the dealer made me sign a stihl declaration so that there was no come back on the dealer for selling kit that was going straight back out the country, the equipment isnt CE marked so its a grey area if you should be using them for work, but then again you could always just contact your local dealer and by the safety decal set including the CE stickers, I only made a saving as i bought my equipment back with me, if it had been picked up by Customs being shipped over, it wouldnt be worth the bother now.
