  1. my honda atv costs me more than my defender to insure per year atvs are far less fuel efficient on the road agri registered ATV have 25mph speed limit on roads Hondas are not great on road due to the solid rear axle There is a grey area regarding distance restrictions for agri atv use on roads if you get it PLG registered it will need an mot so not worth getting a dog as it needs to be road worthy, but you probably wont be allowed to tow on the road with it under your insurance (especially timber! check your policy allows this as many dont even for agri use!) buy your self a cheap banger it would be far more sensible than an atv for day to day use, and will be cheap insurance to start with, if your only doing a few miles round local woods it may be worth looking at getting a cheap 4x4 converted to limited milage so you can run it on red and cheap insurance but you will be limited to something like 5miles from the farm its registered at.
  2. I love to see a pic of it on the hitch if u have one please. Superwinch Towball Winch Mount: dont have any pics of mine but this is the mounting i use
  3. :thumbup:Cheers Guys
  4. I have superwinch models atv2000 and LT2500 both are good winches, LT2500 was the easier to wire, I have it mounted on a tow hitch mounting so I can drop it on the back of the landy for moving smaller stuff around with it,

i love my full wrap handles on my 372, it means you can get into all sorts of bad habits you can get them in the UK its a standard part number featured on the IPLs so any dealer can get them for you. makes snedding a really pita though
  6. if your risk assesment can cover why your not wearing them you should be ok, It is only a recommendation (possibly mandiatory on training courses) I dont wear them doing river work for the reason you have said, they can get wet and slippy so are actually more dangerous. I got pulled up a few times on it but once i had explained my reasoning I was ok, and havent had any issues since
  7. we have the MB jungle, well made and very good off road but unfortunatly its still in use
  8. There were no fungi bodies present that were visable even a route about in the leaf litter revealed no old desicated bodies, the discharge was a lightish brown colour

  10. Had a look at this today and am interested to see what other people think it is, its only affecting one tree in a line of about 25 mature beech trees, no crown die back or dead wood, and the leaf buds seem to be developing normally, but the tar spots are weaping a lot, and there are some quite colourful legions which feel soft and squishy, not my normal area of expertise so any help would be appreciated sorry about the camera phone pictures
  11. where did you get the aspen window sticker from, not been offered one by my local dealer
  12. I had mine on a boggy wetland creation site all day yesterday did virtually no ground damage (go back in a week and i bet you wont even see where i have run) and I only got slightly bogged in one area, due to repeatedly using the same track through a stream bed. I would say they are very good on boggy ground if set up with the right tyres and driven sensibly I think if people are turning bikes over its due to poor operator judgement, most newer atvs will travel safely across some very very rough terrain even when snatching tree lengths out where they have been felled into boggy ground. Its more about operator experience (note i use the word experience and not training!) my 500cc petrol was was pulling timber out over a short haul for the last few days anything upto about 1/2ton at a time, and i used less than 10ltrs of fuel each day which i dont consider to be a huge amount pluss the diesel atvs are very sluggish and noisy or the ones i have tried have been, and they cost significantly more to purchase new
  13. heres my advice with the NFU having had the similar problems, ring round all the local offices until you find one who will do it, they vary from one to the next, and dont seem to have any coherant policy on it, also if the make it on a special vehicle policy make sure your covered for activities such as towing timber in a trailer on the back, as they can get pretty touchy about that if its not on an ag policy
  14. Hi Joy, I dont think Tony was liking the electrickery on the machine if they want a hand again this evening give us a shout and I will pop over but i think they are well on the way now with it (and it doesnt involve a gas axe). As an update the oil temp light is now sorted so some controls are back, such as saw, reverse feed and slewing but the forward feed roller, metering and delimbing functions still dont seem to be functioning correctly, I suspect these are all operated together from one function on the joystick but am not 100% so if anyone knows about the finer details of said machine Im sure Rohan & Tony would appreciate any info
  15. I have sort of put my name down for an xpg version, apparently the 560xp and 562xp only vary in the bar mounting size, 560 will be the same as the 346 etc, 562 will be the same as 576/372 type size other than that they are identical. My local dealer has tried one and recons they are very very smooth saw, and they have a rev boost feature for snedding, so when the throttle is open fully for about 5 seconds it gives it more revs, so nice and steady for felling and opens right up for snedding. looks like a well thought out saw as long as the elec-trickery doesnt let it down
  16. nice resource, If i could add the NBN database website to this National Biodiversity Network Gateway you can search for pretty much any species, tree, fungi, mammals etc and if you use the interactive mapping function you can search for local species and scroll around the maps, and it will direct you to who holds the records so you can contact them for more information if you need it
  17. Is that the camp between leek and thorncliffe I had heard that locally we are now being recommended to disinfect with a product called Propeller (although im still using Virkon at the moment) between sites, is it Propeller that your using? I wonder how abundant this actually is through the Churnet valley already if its up the top near Leek, its going to spread very quickly.
  18. I know people in the conservation sector that have volunteered for years before getting paid employment, Im not saying this is good for the sector as i believe it leads us to having very low wages for the skill many of us have, but it seems to be the accepted norm for this sector, finish uni/college and then volunteer for a year or two!
  19. i will recommend if you get sorted giving Dave Bowyers a ring, for bits, they helped me no end with mine. I rang them up told them the set up what winch, solenoid location etc etc and they sorted making the whole wiring loam for me so I just had to bolt it all in, even sorted me a fitting kit for the winch as i didnt get one and they had an old one in stock. Really helpful even when i rang up having some blond moments with the wiring of the lodar. He knows a lot about winches and their applications,
  20. area of the country would help give a better idea, what access like etc softwood or hard? as it could be between 500quid and 4k depending on many factors. if your looking at buying its worth getting a professional opinion on its value
  21. cheers guys, not sure if its happening now as the landowner is blowing hot and cold on a weekly basis, but i will return all the pm's that i have had if it goes ahead
  22. If he isnt looking to replant it, its worth contacting the local FC regional office before submitting an application to explain the situation It will require a felling license and it will have to go on the public register for 1month as its a clearfell, as for TPO's your local council may have an interactive mapping service as ours do where you can see the location of TPOs and conservation areas, rough time scales: felling license, 4weeks minimum (free) conservation area 6weeks (free) TPO 2months (will incure a fee) if the site is being replanted then FC will help with restocking if you submit the felling license as part of and EWGS application for the site, although you would have to put an inventory of all the landowners woodlands on it
  23. ha thats funny, i have just left flux for NFU same price but nfu chucked in an additional £500 worth of tool cover,
  24. i have a superwinch husky 8500lb on the front which pulls my 130 out slowly, its not fast but for assisting with felling and rolling big bits over once on the deck to make them safer to work on its ace, i have it paired with a lodar remote so when felling i can tension up the winch. Also due to being a worm drive winch you can leave some tension on it when felling with it and it doesnt slip. Picked the winch and lodar units up of ebay cheap both used, and got a used bumper after asking on here for one! also i have a 2500lb superwinch that drops on the tow hitch on the back, which i have used for skidding smaller bits up river banks, across wetlands etc as its a bit quicker than the husky, but the husky is a great winch just dont expect it to be quick
  25. whats your location, as there may be a member on here that can help you out locally The stihl units are pretty robust and if your looking for a used one you should be able to find one easily
