  1. you also get top money from the game dealers after all these cookery programs;-)
  2. the 'tiblock' not sure of the name, was a very small cam device with a thin wire gate(with did'nt work as 3 strand was too big) to keep the rope in most of the time, mine got lifted from by bag many years ago. the othe was the (jack) kenyon prussic lifter which was a L shaped bar with spurs that twisted onto the tail and lifted the prussic. you made your own spliced 3 strand prussic loops, or 'euro prussic loop' which were easer to make as they were just two eye splices, one small to the harness and one large to make the prusssic, but didnt last as long. just about all of the other things mentioned, specially the grey GT under the arm pits!! how about been taught to stack a load of brash properly with just a billhook, but leaving a space on the back as you dont get a seat in the cab:001_rolleyes:
  3. full speaking part!!!! BBC NEWS | UK | Tree climbing for grown-ups
  4. you can put a bridge on but, it was not designed to be used like that! its a unique french style that they put either end of the rope onto different sides, this allowows you to turn and go out forwards on branches. the desigen has been around for 10 years or more and still in productuion as far as i know. craig
  5. been reading that new book then dean?
  6. post code/ address Temple Newsam House Temple Newsam Road Off Selby Road,(A63) Leeds LS15 0AE
  7. if any of you guys want to enter just ring the number on the flyer or PM and i'll sort you out a place, FYI first place gets a 020t:thumbup:
  8. Just thought that i'd let you all know about this. its a very simple comp with just a speed climb and work climb. we will be running it at the same time as the tree-athalon takes place and numbers will be strictly limited, so first come first served. it might be nice if a few of you arbtalks could turn up to support both events. craig
  9. rumour has it that ISC are doing something along that line of thought, its in the final stages of development, 'tweaking' i think its called, but the prototype look good
  10. started climbing 27 years ago, still going, slower but safer(most of the time!)

  15. Jo H came third as the judges scored it apparently

  18. yep, been and now back home. three time the size of the APF lots of new and interesting stuff
  19. the climber working was'nt born when you were doing that at their age.....
  20. footlocking is 80% technique, but good boots wont make you 20% better! avoid boots with large heels as the rope slips through. at work i wear hiax protectors which i find ok, for footlocking at work, have not competed for a while but i have a pair of salamon boots for other climbing days, which have lasted very well. craig p.s. the boot rule for the comps has been changed, make sure that you read the most up to date version, which will also help you understand how the comp is scored. you dont have to place in any event to get into the masters!
  21. very true but also there has never been a 'law' to say you cant use A's just best pratice to say you should'nt!!
  22. All that chris said, plus 5000lbs is just under 23kn which is why our USA friends cant climb on our euopean 22kn gear. well put chris nice to know that your out there lurking
  23. lots of points going on and i agree it would have been great to see some real arbs come and finnish the job off correctly. but how can the BBC justify letting them come back a second day and continue. the BBC was the employer full stop. so many H&S breaches that they let happen, dont see how they can get away with it! it wasn't even good telly craig
  24. for my sins i have very recently started to sit on the NOS:confused1: new arb boy in old boys forestry club, it takes about three years to make changes so this change started long years ago! we have started to rewright the NOS for a working arb view once this is done (3 years) lantra/nptc look at it to see if there are any gaps that they can fill with more units, previously the arb NOS has had a lot of input from forestry and trainers:sneaky2:
