  1. What's the longest you've had a customer sit on a quote? I had a guy call me up today with a quote I'd sent out in July 2006! He's finally got round to wanting the work done... Only a small job felling a laburnum so I said we'd honor the quote.. (+VAT as we weren't registered then).
  2. Any one got any info? Different methods of application/innoculation, and any associated problems.. Cheers
  3. The guy found with our saws is up on court on the 27th of March! So the police do something..

    Ebay

If you see knock of stuff report it to Ebay.
  5. That's the third company in the East Midlands I've heard of that's been done over since the start of the year! We only just got our insurance cheque paid in the bank today! PMTree, If you've got identifying marks or serial numbers post them and we'll know what to look for. All our kit is now engraved in multiple places, it might not stop it getting nicked but if it makes it more difficult to move on it's got to be a good thing!
  6. Try searching Mattheck.. Dunno if it will help.. Any one going on his VTA Elite Training Workshop 2 - 5 June 2009? a snip at £1,610.... bit rich for me! http://www.symbiosis.gb.com/claus_page_new.htm
  7. I did mention it as I was picking the chipper up, but forgot to mention it before then!
  8. We've been running our old kwick chip 222 with a new lombardini engine along side our TW 190, I'd find it difficult to choose between them. If the No stress device worked on the Kwick chip I'd probably choose it above the TW
  9. Are you going back on the tools?
  10. I've used AHS before to get rid of chip and they are often calling saying they want it, buzz will give you the details... They paid us £5 a ton collected. Don't mean to spoil your arbtalk monopoly Buzz but, a friend who is doing some research at a powerstation has sent me a link for A W Jenkinson forest products, he's told me they'll give £18 a ton for arborial arisings! I guess you have to deliver it, but if your near by could be worth while. http://www.awjenkinson.co.uk/ Anyone had any dealings?
  11. Don't get the samsung M110 - I hate it! it is robust and has a 5mg camera and flash, but I'm back to my old Nokia..
  12. It is an old 206 - Do you think it's worth buying?
  13. BT REALLY PISS ME OFF! To get a quote for the line removal it's "£85 for site visit and then £55 per man per hour or part hour which would be chrageable whether the work went ahead or not" Then they seem to want the engineer to sit there for the day watching at £55 an hour! Does any one know if you can employ your own phone engineer/sparky to come out and take the lines down? That's got to be cheaper then the £500 odd quid a day they want! Then again I could just wipe out the lines and let them fix the mess!
  14. We run transits for every day work but have a toy Mitzy Pinin to quote and tow the chipper where the transits would get stuck, ie a flat wet grassy field..
  15. Unfortunately this job involves a crane and 7 or 8 lines to diffferent owners so doing it on the side is not really an option. I have done it myself before but want to do it the right way as it's quite high profile.. Not sure I will if it's going to be £100 a line however.. Not sure how the offices and old peoples home are going to respond either... Hmmm are these big jobs worth the bother?
  16. I HATE dealing with BT, spoke to 7 different people and cut off 3 times! Email seems to have worked better.. [email protected] External Network Relocation Team Member/Openreach Tel: 0800 012 1387 (option 6) Web: http://www.openreach.co.uk
  17. Any one do it/know of someone in the East midlands for a couple of days. Smaller the better..
  18. Who the hell do you call to get BT lines taken down before the job? BT are giving me a right run around!
  19. This may be of interest: http://www.treeworks.co.uk/downloads/publications/TOWARDS_REASONABLE_TREE_RISK_DECISION_MAKING_NF_060907.pdf
  20. Just been to look round a wood with a number of dead/dying mature trees. The site is used by the public dog walking etc.. If the trees were to fail they might hit the footpath but the risk is very low as occupancy is going to be very limited. I'm going to advise making monaliths out of them to further reduce the risk but without doing QTRA is there another way or demonstrating sufficient "duty of care." Am I right in giving them a low priority..? they've had other tree surgeons round who seem to want to remove any risk and are recommending felling anything that looks dodgy even if there's no target, one wouldn't even leave logs on site.. If they were in a garden or road I'd be saying it was urgent works but in a wood I feel that the chance of hitting a target is minimal so the works can wait.
  21. I know we all cut domestic hedges all year round, but farmers are not allowed to cut during: "The bird breeding season, 1 March to 31 July, should always be avoided: nearly every hedgerow in the country will have birds breeding in it during this time. Some birds continue breeding into August. All wild birds, their young, their eggs and active nests are protected under law. It is an offence to damage a nest intentionally while it is in use or being built – hedge cutting is highly likely to damage nests or cause them to be deserted." We've a developer who has a bout 500m of hawthorn/elder hedge that he wants us to cut, it's too big to flail so we'd be doing it with chainsaws and hedgetrimmers, we're booked up till the start of the nesting season, can we do it? or are we to late?
  22. PM me your email and I can help with BS 4043
  23. We had hig horse chestnut that split out leaving half a tree, the insurance company told the client that they were only willing to pay to clear up the bit on the deck.. I worded the quote and invoice, clear up and make safe so the insurance would pay for the whole job. I didn't mention that making safe meant felling the rest of the tree. I don't think this was dishonest...
  24. Anyone interested with a good few crane jobs under their belts - If your any good I see know reason why it shouldn't be done and dusted in a day. It's a big horse chestnut, been reduced and braced and got bleeding cancker. Over targets obviously. I am tempted to do it myself but as the only cane job I've ever worked on was about ten years ago and I only stopped by for 5 mins, think it prudent to get someone who's done it before.. 2nd of March (if I can get the crane, timber wagon, and BT sorted!) Decent rates of pay and all the saws under 3 months old (except the 84) PM or email me.
  25. We got a call from the police last night that they'd found 3 of our MS200's and the 660! Apparently the guy is being charged for receiving. Well pleased.. We might have a works outing to the court when he get's sentanced. He'll probably get off with bugger all, but we'll get to see the toe rag! Make sure you mark your kit as the police said that if you can't prove it's yours the crook often gets to keep it. I've scribed everything multiple times now on all our kit. Will the insurance company keep the saws now or what? The other saws may be headed to cambridge?
