  1. I thought the HCC prof dip prep course (3 years ago) was pants...
  2. My local crane firm, quoted me £280 a day for a 25 tonner.
  3. We're in a similar duspute with Rok Sol construction. They wanted all kinds of paper work before we started the works, which is fair enough. But we are still waiting for payment after resending them more information and copies of insurance etc... Why do they need to see our insurance after the job? Just send the check you..... I've sent them a final warning so I guess it will be the small claims court next. Does any one know what a fair amount to add on to the bill is? I know its 8%+ the base rate for interest but can't I add some for them wasting my time?
  4. The Land registry will show you online for two quid, takes about 2 minutes for most properties.. http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk/lro/servlet/TitleSearchServlet
  5. Sounds alot to me.. I'd be looking at the £100 mark for a half decent climber.
  6. When I worked in London a few years back we used to use masks when working on london planes. I guess some HSE bod had recomended/inforced it, as the company would never have done it off their own back.. Oak sawdust is carcinogenic to I think..
  7. Get to the yard for 8.30 (8.45) try and finish by 4.30. Don't want to work to hard. Paper work in the evenings, but I normaly only do 4 days a week.
  8. Here's some I saw earlier in the year ad Dale Abbey OS Grid ref: SK439384, Easting: 443959, Northing: 338470, Lat: 52.941° , Long: -1.346°.
  9. I like the fungi thread.. Is it Fomes?
  10. Saw these today on a stump - Is it A. tabecens? No ring on these.. Poor quality photos, should get a decent camera phone.
  11. That's why I train my groundies and have insurance.. Won't the insurance pay out?
  12. Here's what happened to the poplars - poor quality and without the cheezy music.. [ame] [/ame]
  13. Saw these today - Armillaria mellea I rekon? Last photo poor quality but shows them when small.
  14. Do you use cooking oil? I've been meaning to try it for ages..
  15. You use: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/ It sends it to the right place, which is handy as I've sent them to the wrong place in the past.
  16. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3628&highlight=poplars
  17. Most of my Plans come from Derbyshire County Council web site. Nottingham City do good ones too. Land registry can also supply them but you have to pay a couple of quid. Not sure/bothered about copyright..... What I have found is that it will not enable you to send unless you have all the info they require. Some bits you don't need, but they won't send the application without them. I tick the box which says I'm sending it by post and mark it as not required. Not had any complaints yet. What would you TO's say. It is a bit of a faff to start with but I like it. You can also go back and check when you applied ..
  18. Do it online. You can download plans of the garden and stick in the trees in paint and zoom out and do location plots. I just use Print Screen then paste into paint and edit it there. If the trees have TPO's my council site even has the trees on the map for me (probably in the wrong place). It doesn't take long. If you've done a tree report for the client, it's easy to cut and paste. If the trees fcked as your example it don't take long to write a report. The initial site visit is the quote and you don't often need to meet the TO.
  19. They were big poplars in a park, starting to crap themselves, reached the end of their usefull life.
  20. That why we had BUZ in. I've some footage on my phone of them at work. If I can download it I will post it.
  21. My brother took some footage of one of the 11 poplars we took down, excuse his humor with the music.. [ame] [/ame]
  22. You don't have to charge them £120.. Sounds alot to me. It takes me 20 minutes max to fill in a simple application online, including maps etc..
  23. The TO (who may or may not be a muppet) did not say he would not give permision to fell, just that he needed an application. They are being a jobsworth for sure but it's not a great deal of effort to stick in an application and I don't mind doing them if I'm confident that I'll get work from it. If the customer can't be bothered to apply (or have you apply), they're the muppet, as they will have to pay more for a MEWP to come take it down when it is dangerous.
