favourite 6" road tow chipper out of greenmech, timberwolf and jensen

Any chipper is better then stacking brash, as has been said before, but a chipper that is smaller then what your used too sucks.. We've a TW 190 and a Quickchip 222, both comparable machines, but I couldn't handle using a 6' machine now. If I was used to a bigger machine I'm sure I'd end up not liking the 7' machines. Sorry off thread... But greenmechs don't match the saws.. It has to be orange... -

I brought a £6,000 chipper, £3,500 mitzy and £8,500 Honda from ebay. + lots of other stuff. I won't get saws anymore as they're normally knackered. I also don't part with big cash without seeing the goods, but my honda was over £2000 off the list price. It's a greatr place to but vehicles..

The trangia is a great peice of kit, I've had mine for over 15 years, but the meths burner is slow. I tried using it to melt snow up a mountain in NZ once and was VERY hungry. The gas adapter is OK but then you need gas canasters. I got the Optimus Nova, A multi fuel stove. Quick priming, lightweight and fully adjustable flame. Capable of burning diesel, parrafin, white gas, petrol and Coleman fuel. You can (could 7 years ago) get an adapter No 9100, which means you can fit it to the trangia, although to be honest I got some different pots.

I've not been diving for years but was a PADI Assistant Instructor in my time. Go on a live a board, 3 dives a day, first before breakfast, last at night. Food prepared and nothing to do but sit about chatting about diving. Get to the best sites on your own before all the other dive boats get their. Make sure you have a dive computer however as you'll be off the table by the end of the first day (do you still use tables?). Don't forget the UK for dive sites, I know its cold and often murky but some of my fave dives have been in the UK.

The flat rate scheme works well for us, we charge 15% but only pay 9%, (unless that went down) . It reduces what we make on private but you make more from companies paying vat.. -

I've had 3 pairs of the hi flex and thought I'd try the stretch airs. They do feel very tough but it does feel the same as when I had waterproof trousers on over my high flex! Don't know if I'd get them again.

How long can bare root plants be kept in a cold store and still be OK? I've read 22 weeks for some forestry species anyone know for more amenity species. Cheers

Nice pics A small point, scientific mame should be in italics or underlined, with a capital for the first letter of the genus and lowercase the species. Eg Ganoderma applanatum..

Ditto to what Tony said.. The hands on side of it however is very usefull. If you do it with tree life they go over how to write morgage reports, subsidence reports, BS5837 etc etc.. It's all knowledge that you can apply an use in a small arboricultural firm. I don't know about the Arboriculture BSc but I know my Ecology BSc didn't equip me with skills directly to use in work. Janey, I don't know if its less work either! They expect you to know alot! I went into it thinking I've got a degree how hard can it be. I am now honestly thinking I will be very lucky if I mange to pass it in the next 5 years.. Their species list which they use for your tree ident is Hilliers. That has over 4000 trees and shrubs in it. You are supposed to be able to ID anything in it, spell the scientific name correctly and give 6 interesting facts about it!

My first harness was a weaver and I'm still using it! I've had it 9 years it's LOLER'D, and indestructable. I'd like a fancy new harness but can't see the point in changing for something I don't know when the one I've got works fine is comfy ect.. and I ain't a big fella, my waist has raised slightly from 30 to 32 in the past 9 years, still comfy!

Although I don't fly at the minute due to work/family, I still rate being joined by a a pair of buzzards in a thermal and climbing wing tip to wing tip with them as one of the best feelings ever! -
We've two transits, had one for over 5 years now, a bit slow and not much fun towing a tracked chipper when fully loaded but it will do it. Apart from the lack of legal carrying capacity they do the job just fine! The newer one with the turbo tows our chippers fully loaded without any problems. I'd stick a tool box on the back rather then go for a crew cab. I'd imagine you'll be overloaded with just tools in a crewcab

I'm not going to get drawn in to this pointless round and round argument. IMO The AA is the proffesional/trade body for the Arb industry, like it or not.. (I'm not personally a big fan). Their advice after consultation with the EA is we need a licence.. Again IMO, what they say has more weight then a hairy tree cutter, therefore the argument is over... End of disscusion!

Dirty theiving scum, caught red handed

We had a car load of youths drive into the yard through the gate with the PRIVATE sign.. When questioned replied "do you still sell potato's?" They haven't sold spuds there for at least 10 years! Send me details of electrifying containers! The security we now have in place adds at least 20 minutes a day, that adds up to about 70hrs a year! Thats nearly two whole working weeks a year to stop the theiving toe-rags running off with our kit! -
The AA spring Newsletter has an article: Waste carrier's licence.. do I need one? A: Yes! They wrote to the Environmental Agency National policy Team. That's "our" trade bodies advice, end of.. Don't say the AA never do anything for you! You also need an excemption certificate under paragraph 21 of the environmental protection act 1990 to store no more than 1000 tons of chip (available from EA web site) and Have to ensure that the inherent duty of care has been met when transfering waste to someone else.. Farmers, horsey folk etc...

I brought the old vermeer 206 and it's already hard at work.. Now we have our own machine I'm selling grinding much more and therefore getting a lot more stumps to do. We've 3 or 4 a week to do when previously we'd get that a month. Anyone got a good source for the teeth? Also what's the best way to grind stumps? moving forward cutting a few inches and then doing more passes, or staying in the same place and going down, then moving on?
