  2. I don't check arbtalk every day.. It's still for sale, I'm not in any rush and am busy. When I checked I had a number of offers. Obviously I am going to listen, especially if one involves me finding a pallet and organising shipping.
  3. Pic's of the grab we have for sale. We changed all the pipes and fitting a couple of years ago when we first got it but we've never really used it.
  4. We've got one, heavier duty than the riko, with two grabs, its sitting about doing nothing. Yours for £250. I'll get some photos
  5. Check out the HORT link have to say about reductions and subsidence: For practical soil moisture conservation, severe crown-reduction 70-90% of crown volume would have to be applied. Reduction of up to 50% crown volume is not consistently effective for decreasing soil drying. http://www.myerscough.ac.uk/downloads/pdfs/Subjects/Arboriculture%20-%20NYTOG/NWTOG07/HortLink%20Project%20Final%20Report%20(2004).pdf
  6. Can any one recommend a decent mechanic in the East Midlands to fix our stump grinder? And rent small pedestrian machine..
  7. If you were to hurt yourself while climbing without a climber on the ground and rescue kit, they would throw the book at your boss. He could lose everything possibly even get locked up. As an employer its NOT A risk I would take with an employee.
  8. 2 men truck and chipper - Very Anti-social hours (after 7pm and Sundays) - £250 for first hour then £150 per hour Anti social hours (after 5pm and Saturdays) - £200 for first hour then £125 per hour Within normal work hours - £150 for first hour then £95 per hour

  10. I've been in a partnership for the last 6 years and all works fine but have over the years been told by some that we should form a LTD company. At present we just draw a salary and pay tax on the bussiness end of year profit. How does being LTD work and what are the benifits? I know there is some legal seperation from you and the business if things go wrong, and you have to file annual statements. But other then that, how does it work day to day, you pay a small salary then take dividends.....to directors? What do you pay tax on? Can you pay different amounts to different directors? Do you need a compay secratary? Any informed advice appreciated.
  11. Not all To's are alike... Some have very different views.. Pre app meeting saves loads of time and money and IMO are a great idea. The TO has to go out and look at the tree some time why not with you. The better TO's you can call say I want do x is that OK? They'll have a look and let you know then you can fill in the paper work happy that you can do the job in 6 weeks. The bad ones won't meet up first, make you fill in the forms wait 8 weeks then send you a letter saying can we extend the waiting time, feel free to appeal. More wasted time, and often they make desions with unrealistic views on tree preservation at all cost.
  12. So which is the best small truck for domestic work with sensible load. The 3.5 ton standard transit fits most places but is over weight by 9 AM. What is the solution. I have no experience with any 4.5-7.5 ton trucks but want a small truck that is not over weight. VOSA pulled us over last week, (we were empty) that always makes me think.... 4x4 would be great.. Transit 460 Iveco Daily 50C13D IVECO DAILEY 60C17 Mitsubishi Canter 7C14 (6.5 or 7.5) isuzu nqr 5t Merc 816 Nissan Cabstar 4.5t
  13. Can you list a few, what other small 4.5 - 6.5 tonners are any good? Iveco Daily Mitsu Canter
  14. Did you see this thread? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/large-equipment/18752-very-scary-expensive.html To be fair to TW they were very keen fix it and find out what went wrong. We had it back on the road in a week (about £3k bill). The housing is thicker now.. They provided a comprehensive report which told us very little.. I'll dig it out and post the findings
  15. You find that bad, I quoted £950 + Vat to do a job, for a housing development, found out they didn't go with us because we were too cheap!!!! I didn't even price it that cheap 1 day for 4 men and 2 trucks I never met with the client only a landscaper so I didn't get a chance to sweet talk them....
  16. The foam armbands would work. Swim Stop-Delphin Armbands
  17. I am plannning on expanding a community woodland. With no money.. Any advice on grants would be good as have never done anything similar. There is a local, oak, ash wood approx 25 years old whoes understorey is covered in ash seedlings, I was wondering on the feasibilty of digging them up and moving them to the new site. Could I just harvest them as bare root trees and plant them up? How would you do that? What size would be best to take (the donor wood has 100's of thin whips up to 4m)? Will unprepared trees from an understorey survive? I also know of a site on an old playing feild which is covered with 10 year old oaks. It's going to be bulldozed one of these days can I dig them up and get a nice supply of bare root oaks?
  18. Has any one got a MEWP (10m high, 5m outreach) willing to hire next week, for a morning/day in the east midlands (Long Eaton).. cheers.
  19. Not bad seeing as I got it off the web sitting in my office...
  20. LA, will not allow any reduction, they might allow minimal pruning back of specific branches although I would have to reapply and therefore wait another 8 weeks!
  21. Is this work acceptable?: T1 -Oak Tree -Crown reduce by the removal of the outermost 2m of the leaf bearing canopy back to suitable secondary growth points. Ensuring a flowing branch line and a natural crown habit for the species. Resulting pruning cuts will not exceed 100mm in diameter. Remove dead wood over 50mm. I believe trees in the urban environment that are going to out grow their position should be maintained, and that regular minimal reductions, like giant bonsi are better than letting it get out of control.. The pic is from google street view so bigger now.
  22. Big beech tree in church yard, lost a big limb earlier in the year in still conditions and another recently. Located over a foot path and grave yard, small ganoderma bracket at base, signs of other breakages. Both failed branches had the staining but wood sill solid.
  23. We've two transits and they are sluggish but work great, our oldest we brought used over 6 years ago has had very little go wrong... The newer one we've had 3 years is still very reliable. (our chippers however....) If you don't go off road they are great. If you have a Landy you've got a 4x4, use that when your off road, chances are you'll be able to chip on site on those jobs. Unless you want to tow 3.5 tons, then get a landy.
