We've had ours a couple of months now. Operator loves it! There was a thread a while ago about them being unstable. We have NOT found it a problem.

How much bigger is the tipper on a single cab 130 compared to the 110? What are the dimensions of your chip boxes....

Can you not overload a 130 more easily then a 110? A 130 must weigh more than a 110 and has more load space. We have been running transits for years and I want to be legal...

Start up on your own with your old man, then you can complain at what those freelance climbers charge...

Maybe you should have been freelance climber rather then run a tree company When I hear the rates some are charging I think that life would be alot easier...

The fact is that tree work is a lifestyle choice, it's easy and cheap to set up a business and there are folk out there doing work for wood! I don't think many people are getting rich doing tree work.. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong..

At £120 a day assuming a 260 days a year working - 20 days to cover leave thats an annual salary of £28,800. Not bad.. More than your average small tree company owner probably makes with none (less)of the hassle/financial risk and evenings doing paper work. I can't pay everyday climbers that as I'd end up being unable to be competative. On special difficult jobs maybe, but I don't need climbers for tricky jobs (I can do them) I need extra climbers to get through street trees and regular stuff. All I'm saying is climbers who ask for too much will work less.

I'm planning on doing the AAAC scheme so guess I need CS41. Parkhill Training in the East Midlands are planning to run the course on May 9th and 10th but could do with another person or three to make up the numbers. I've not personally done any training with parkhill but we've sent guys for cs30 and 31 and stump grinder and have all had good things to say. £230 + VAT Anyone interested. [email protected]

What and where should I be looking for? I want something decent which will last long term and not need constant tinkering to keep it on the road. I'm guessing they've changed a little. It's got to be a 130... or should I consider a 110 3500GWT.. Are there engines/years to avoid? Does age matter or is it all about condition? What's a reasonable milage? Is there any thing to look out for, does the chassis still rot? How much should I be spending?

I'm changing my fleet.. if you can call it that. We currently run 2 transits and a mitzy pinin and have access to a 4x4 loader tractor and trailer.. Transits are fine apart from being over loaded...so our main truck is now to be the Iveco 65. We occasionally need 4x4 and the pinin has proved very useful for towing the chipper, stump grinder and as a quote vehicle/second car, but it is starting to rust and is thirsty. Other threads have demonstrated that a Land Rover is the only 4x4 that can carry a load, is small enough to do those residential jobs and can tow a 3.5 ton trailer so I reckon a 130 tipper is the next purchase. That will do what our second transit and pinin did. We still need a third vehicle for quoting/family and towing the small stump grinder (just over 1000kgs). I want something fuel efficient over 40mpg.. Recommendations please: I'm thinking berlingo or kangoo as the 4x4 is always usefull!

I said land rovers were expensive... I bet your over loaded with the iveco 4x4 by the time you fill it up with fuel BIG and old and uncomfortable...

I'll consider anything before resorting to an expensive old Land Rover...

I would like to replace one of my 3.5 tonners with a 4x4 Is Land Rover the only option? They cost so much! We have just paid £8K for a 5 year old 6.5 ton iveco with 48,000 miles, but for that money I'm looking at a 10-15 year old Landy with 175,000 mile on the clock, doors that leak and all the other issues with landies. I had a weaver for 10 years, it was still fine, but thought I should get a new harness. I got a tree motion, Its OK, but I'd rather have my old weaver and there is no way it will last 10 years...
