  1. Unless you really need one I would get something else. They have they're positives, and there is not much to compare but they are agricultural. For £4000 you could buy a 1995 LR 90 with 150,000 miles for the same money you could get a 1999 disco with 100,000 miles or even a range rover.
  2. Ditto! I flew hang gliders and paragliders, put it all on hold since kids and starting a business. Takes over your life! There is nothing like thermaling wingtip to wingtip with a a buzzard or a red kite.
  3. It's an emergency.. They are not phoning round for quotes. Make it safe as quick as possible, come back in normal hours at normal rates to clean up.
  4. EMERGENCY RATES: +VAT 2 Man Team Anti-social hours (after 5pm and Sundays) - £250 for first hour then £150 per hour Within normal work hours - £150 for first hour then £95 per hour
  5. Nothing to do with me but much better value then a defender. I might be wrong but I don't think it is 3.5 ton.. Santana PS10 (Like Landrover 110) 3 Way Tipper | eBay
  6. I think this site is increasing expectations for groundies and climber alike.. The Labour Force Survey, For non-graduates, show that average earnings were around £15,000 for 22-year-olds earnings increased every year until the age of 30 before levelling off and peaking at £19,400 at 34. So taking 230 work days a year (4 weeks holiday etc) £65 - £84 a day for a freelance worker. If your on £150 a day works out as £34,500 Annual salary. Not bad.. Are many of the small business owners making that? I bet they are working more then 230 days.
  7. 6.5 tonner, pulls the 2.2 ton chipper fully loaded and still legal! Great truck.
  8. There are NO plans to require Operator Licences for 3500kg trucks There are NO plans to require MOT type tests for trailers Tacho's are still a nightmare if you want to go over the 50km They also have sensors on the motorway that can record your axle weight as you pass over them, take your photo and them they can pull you over. They also have an Operator Compliance Risk Score with a traffic light system where vehicles/operators are graded red, amber and green. If you are red they will stop you every time they see you! They have no money and massive cuts.
  9. I've just brought a 3.5 ton tipper trailer with the intention of putting high sides to chip into. I worked out I could go to 1.4m and shouldn't be overweight when full. Can't imagine what that would weight full of chip.
  10. My business partner has a meeting with VOSA Tuesday, I will try to get him to get clarification on various points.. Any questions you want me to get him to ask, let me know..
  11. We have ali sides, the original lower side panels still fold down, and we have a full length tool box along the side. Posted some pics not long ago but here it is again...
  12. Anyone used one? Have you found they are worth the £400-£800 a day they charge? No need to name names but pm me if you like:)
  13. Works now running on into December.. 2 Climbers wanted 3 days a week...
  14. Looking at replacing the Mitzy pinin which is rusting to bits and looks way shabby and getting rid of the old smiley transit which isn't used often and is surely going to give in soon! I've ordered a 3.5 ton trailer, which will take the place of the transit and we've the 2.2 ton chipper to tow occasionally (we've the 130 and iveco that can tow them), the main use will be quoting and commuting. So small size is important, but it needs to look right pulling up at jobs.. The only smallish vehicles I've found are the fourtrak and the defender 90. What could you choose? You could get a lowish milage tidy late fourtrack for around £3K mark similar age and condition 90 defenders (300tdi/Td5) are more like £6-8K. A similar age disco2 would be between for £5-6K, which is crazy as new it cost more then the defender but it's a bit big. I'm drawn to the 90 but apart from the green oval why would I buy a defender. What else should I consider?
  15. If you watched grand designs you would see that that one apparently never made any money!
  16. We have 15-20 days climbing, for a couple of climbers. Mostly reducing street trees. Work 8.30-4.30. Through October and November. We are based between Derby and Nottingham DE72 3NX. Send me an email with your rates and cv/experience. [email protected] 01332 875 869
  17. I'm trying to get hold of the MPI or PI of soils from some sites. I believe you can get this from BGS solid/drift maps. Are there any online locations where I can do a search and get the data? Cheers.
  18. It's still got all your flashing lights!
  19. It's taken a while to get it sorted! The vinyl wrap man came today. (He did the wrong yellow!) It has a full length tool box and hinged roof (with ali triangles to stop chip flying out the sides)
  20. Some of the Merlo's have PTO's but not cheap..
  21. They have fixed the bit where you had to pretend to be posting information that was not required.. A great help would be linking it to mapping software. Many councils have TPO information online, so it could be easier to link tree location rather then having to provide a map. I know you can purchace maps but that adds time and cost.
  22. It's the toyota HZJ's we want. The saying in Aus was if you want to get into the bush get a landrover, if you want to get there and back get a landcruiser
  23. Fully loaded with 2.2 tons of chipper, it still pulls!
  24. The sign man should have done it today... I know it's taken a while.... Will post pics when I have seen it!
