  1. We did our iveco and LR 130 in 3mm ali. You need to line with thin ply, we just glued some on. The unpainted section above the cab of the iveco was not lined and the chip is starting to dent it.
  2. Cheers, has any one done it? and if not why not? We've got a hydraulic company who has a unit on the farm we work out of, maybe I should have a chat..
  3. The caravaner reviews all slate it. Does it work for you OK?
  4. You get all wheel drive units but they cost about £1700! Has any one worked out away of using the chippers hydraulics? You also theoretically should be able to use the hydraulics for running other things like log splitters.
  5. Has any one fitted a caravan motor mover to a big chipper. I've seen ROB D's on the 150(I can't face reading though the whole weechipper thread.) We've just purchased a twin axel 250 weighing 2.2tons. It's a pig to move around.
  6. We get a local farmer with a telehandler, £250 ish quid for the day. Took 3 loads yesterday, I'm guessing 50-75 tons so at £9 a ton it's not going to make me rich but it's better then paying to spread it as we've done it the past.
  7. The 250 was good. It is a BIG machine, fine behind the Iveco, but an dog to move about by hand. We filled 4 truck loads of leyladii. It was fine on the smaller stuff. I don't think I want a machine that size if it was our only chipper but with the 190 works well. Same blades which is handy.. Got the Jensen next week and possibly a bandit to try...
  8. We're trialing a TW 250 tomorow and a Jensen 340Di next week. Any one any experience with either machine or would you recommend another.. the TW is 10" and 92HP the Jensen is 9" X 11 and 68HP so a bit smaller... Any one know why TW stopped making the 250?
  9. We're the same.. We have a number of freelancers, I normaly ask guys how much they want and then will use who ever is the most cost effective depending on the work. I have some who charge different for ground work and climbing but I don't like that much... If we have a lot of work and I'm booking a climber for a block of ten days or so I'd also expect a cheaper rate..
  10. The trouble I have with these threads is I get "qualified climbers" with a couple of years experience expecting to be paid top dollar, they're often not worth it! Maybe I just don't work them long enough and should start at 6 and finish at 8. I like to employ newish climbers at a cheaper rate for standard non technical works but if I had to pay over £100 a climber I am not going to be able to win any work.. For sure on difficult jobs a decent climber is worth over £100 but for simple hedges, dead wooding and lifts I want someone cheaper.
  11. We've had the bandit sidewinder a while now and think it's great.
  12. Were are you based, £100 for a climber is OK, IMO.
  13. To be fair he does only say will save your leg. As long as you hit the left one!
  14. How do you get the wire to coil nicely? I've only had a couple of hours playing with ours and it was a right PITA.
  15. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/27989-getting-cheaper-contract-climber-rates.html DMM Alpine or center harness work well for me. They can be used from small to big. I've not bothered but you could use a chest harness if you were worried about them slipping out..
  16. OK. they pay us £9 a ton for chip stored in a field. We are very carefull not to contaminate it! They will reject it and pay you nothing if they don't like it! Or if you think it is contaminated they can take it elsewere and filter it first but you get less. We normally get about 24 tons in an arctic, but this last time it was only about 14 tons... I'm guessing it was because it was so dry. So we've sold ten tons of water per load in the past!
  17. They pay £9 a ton..
  18. Any one used a Timberwolf 250 DH TURBO?
  19. Thought about that, but the 4wd will tow to most (not all) places. I do like having different options however...
  20. I saw your post and replied...? If you think it is my chipper then of course I want to know. I've only just seen your second post..
  21. The elongated shute was black and welded on the underside, (I know of at least one other that had a longer shute as they are a messy chipper without) on the stolen machine although not orange (the one in the picture above had an accident with a tree). The hole in the side would not be seen without a close look. It also does not have the air filter sticking out the side either... The insurance company are taking their time..... asking for invoices for everything done to it and value in our "assets register."
  22. I am tempted to go bigger.. Pressumably there is a greater demand for sub 750kg chippers so you get greater depreciation on big machines. So if your buying second hand you get better value on the big chippers. I guess big machines are on top of the job more often so less thrashed..?
  23. Has any one dropped down to a sub 750 kg machines such as the 150 from a 190.
  24. Since loosing our 222 kwick chip last week I've been trying to decide what to replace it with. We've got the 6.5tin iveco and 130 LR, as old gimmers we can tow a decent size trailers. We've still got the TW 190 which is fine and the kwick chip was a back up that didn't go out every day, but still useful to have and not sure we want to be without a second chipper. I'm tempted to get a different size chipper as I like a variety of equipment as it gives flexibility for different jobs. Would you go bigger get a 9 inch (which would look right behind the iveco) and relegate the 190 to back up? Or go smaller so we can send the younger lads out with it if us oldies are busy.. or get a micro chipper to get us into back gardens..?
  25. The planning portal is great once you figure it out, at least they have fixed the bit where you had to pretend to be posting further information. I just did an application it took 15 mins from start to end, including drawing a scale map, with grid ref and everything. I may have infringed some copyrights but that is a different discussion.
