When placing it on ARBTALK initially my intention was to offer it to anyone, hence the reason for posting it publicly. It did not come across that way in the post I should have taken more care. I admit I may have been hasty in placing a figure and undervalued it, the amount of interest made me re-think my method of sale. Started it at £200 on EBAY, so who knows maybe I made a mistake!

I started to get issues, I try not to use a saw all day share the jobs around. The new saws with heated handles are great. Important to keep the saw sharp! The new stihl blower has anti vibe.

I was thinking of changing my mitzy pinin, always think of a landrover, had a s3 15 years ago which I loved... Had a 5 min ride in a defender last week and remembered what it was really like...... Loud, slow and uncomfortable.... I don't need to tow 3.5 tons over a muddy mountain very often and we have a 4wd tractor when we do!

About 8 or 9 years ago, I was in a similar position to you, found work at City Care in Christchurch, they had lots of brits on working holiday visa's.

We blew ours up a few years ago, stuck a new engine on it and since altering the spout now rate it above our tw 190.

We've used them before, most are pants.....! Some have only lasted a day.. But we kept one on for a year and our current groundy after a slow start is turning out to be a good dependable groundie. I would not have paid him when he first came to us. Now looking at putting him through his saw tickets. As to paying guys on trial days, we're looking to recruit and have had four guys, and they all did a good days work. We didn't pay them, I thought about it but you don't get paid for an interview which could easily last all day.

My Mitzy Bongo will apparently run fine with no modifications on a cooking oil and derv mix. Get a preheater and it will run on 100% cooking oil. A guy on the bongo forum claims to have done 100,000miles on waste oil..! Emmisions can have a smell depending on the source of the oil. If using waste oil apparently it is best to let it settle for a couple of months, then take from the top and filter. I'll get round to trying it soon..

We get paid for our chip. We wait till we have 2 or 3 artic loads and get a local farmer with telehandler to load it, last time we got a cheque for over £500. AHS are always calling us wanting it. It's not all hard wood either, everything stored on soil. We are careful about making sure that there are no logs, and careful when loading not to get any soil, but if the chip is dirty/contaminated then you can get paid £5 a ton if it gets screened first. Let them know when you load it though as it goes to a different plant and if they reject it you won't get anything. Don't pay to dump it! As others have said, find a farmer or a stables.

I think you pay 12.5% now under forestry although I think you get a 1% discount in the first year. You charge 20%, took me a while to get my head round it. It is simple, just pay 12.5% of your sales to the VAT man! As said you can claim the VAT on capital purchases (stuff - not services or fuel etc) over £2k You don't have to keep lots of receipts, so apart from the VAT returns there isn't allot of paperwork. You can pay your VAT monthly or what you think it will be to save a big shock at the end of the year

I turned up to do a job and found another firm doing the work! Stupid customer had booked us both! They were there first so I went and found something else to do.

How do you find the iveco compares with 3.5tonners.

I tested ours today and all the hydralics were fine, both claws are independent. It will be on ebay in the near future..! When I get a minute.

It's not a Joke...! The Road Traffic Act 1988 requires “vehicle users” to ensure that vehicles are not overloaded. If a vehicle is found to be overloaded both the driver and operator could be prosecuted or cautioned. Legislation imposes fines of up to £5,000 for each offence. That means a fine for each overloaded axle plus any overloading on the total weight. Also, if a vehicle is dangerously overloaded the driver could face a charge of Dangerous Driving which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison. Other offences within the Road Traffic Act include refusal to allow the vehicle to be weighed and obstruction of an officer which also carry a maximum fine of £5,000. If a vehicle is overloaded and results in someone being killed, both driver and operator could face going to jail for Manslaughter or Death by Dangerous Driving.

Bigger vehicles are too big for most domestic jobs IMO so if I want to work within the law it's the only way. It's not that much hassle as I see it, £700 and a regular inspections, which you should be be doing for PUWER any way.

As far as I can tell if I want to run a Iveco 50c I will need a restricted O licence- It takes 10 weeks to apply, I need to put an add in the local paper Apply to local vso GV79 -£250 http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/repository/CONT067024.pdf (need to have funds (£3400) available to maintain and off street parking...) pay a 5 yearly fee of £391 Also must have the ability to inspect and maintain it to the required standard or have an agreement in place to someone else do it for you. 6-12 week inspections including roller brake/decelerometer tests http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transport_Theme_files/Maintaining_roadworthiness_PCV_1110.pdf We can claim tacho exemption if the vehicles shall be used only within a 50 km radius of the base of the undertaking and on the condition that driving the vehicle does not constitute the driver’s main activity.

Has anyone any experience with the Iveco Daily 50 or 60's. On paper they look like a good arb trucks, small enough for most domestic work but you won't be breaking the law by the time you put your lunch in..!

I have a building plot covered in brambles and small trees and shrubs, I reckon a small mulcher would be the best to clear it. Any one know who would hire one? Cheers.
