  1. What sizes you looking for? Ive a load of softwood but too big for a processor. Try Stuart walker haulier based at Ingleton.
  2. Witherslack by any chance? If it is I know they stick a big delivery charge on. For the record, they harvest their own woods under grant schemes, with the brash being bundled (by hand by the local naughty boys school) that then feeds the estate wood boiler. A set up that has most if not all angles covered.
  3. Oak out all over in the lakes, ash barely showing yet, off to top up on sunscreen- 5 litres should do;)
  4. Self doubt is a wonderful thing! Just had a chat with them about their criteria. The following came from the horses mouth; To qualify for a subsidised place you need to hit one of the following, -Own woodland in Cumbria. -Be working in, or about to start working in the forestry sector. -Be resident in Cumbria. The grey area is around surgeons that do a reasonable amount of firewood, but as most of the courses are forestry orientated it's a bit self selecting. If in doubt talk to Clare - shy bairns get nowt !
  5. Kidnap spud and keep him in your shed! I've got a 200t, 365 special and 660 that need tuning and a 346 that could do with the special spud treatment. Perhaps an extended holiday?
  6. Some real bargains, did pesticides (pa1&6a) for £90. The fly in the ointment for some, is that you need a Cumbria address to qualify for the cheap courses. Can't wait for my 2 days ragging quads - when teacher's not watching! Sam, get in touch with Clare at the Cumbria woodlands office to get some detail on the L2 funding, not sure how its working.
  7. Fortunately o have s talented wife, not just on the cake front either. This leaves me free to do the stuff she can't - reaching off the top shelf, bringing in the firewood etc etc. This one was for a local woodland organisation having a celebration.
  8. Is that through Cumbria woodlands by chance? I hear they're also putting money towards level 2 as well. I've put a couple guys on to it, so I'd expect you not to have to wait too long. You could also asking on sites like the stalking directory.
  9. Have had a haulier ask to cut to 2.4's so he could put two bays either side of a centre crane. Might try for 3 bays of 4 m. All in the name of less cutting and quicker forwarding.
  10. Do you recon you'd get 3 bays of 3m cordwood on that rig? Just trying to work out the best lengths to max loads on an arctic-just done 2 bays of 4.8's which averaged out at 26 ton a load.
  11. Link has disappeared! Will sort later, got start work now!
  12. The canopy fixes via bolts into threaded holes in the side walls of the tub. This means the tub has no lip but the canopy does. If you look at the image of the red unit at the bottom it shows it. http://www.4x4at.com/truck_top_details.php?tpid=25&PHPSESSID=402a62070558f28d85670f05438a31f8
  13. If your will to fetch it from Windermere I've some hardwood at track side and soon to have some more added and a little softwood thrown in for gratis. Let me know.
  14. Pm Woodmad on here, he knows a few things about mogs, as he sells them for Vos and has owned/ worked a few himself.
  15. Peter, My Isuzu rodeo (08 plate) double cab already has a speed liner in the tub, does this matter? Can the pro tipper be made so that my existing canopy can be fitted to it (present ARB canopy fits into existing fittings inside the tub), or does it need another solution to keeping the logs dry on delivery days? Cheers
  16. Dan, I've some hardwood that's coming to roadside soon, also have some big hardwood that'll need processing before it could go through a machine. Pm me if It's of any interest.
  17. Mine are going 4 years on with occasional losses due to my muppetry. I stack 3 high but on pallets between to aid air flow and stacking with fork lift. Don't pack/ stack too tight as they will end up mouldy and damp if no gaps/air flow. Best thing I did for handling firewood, straight off machine into shed, onto trailer and craned off and emptied on customers drive. Know amount, repeatable and consistent - my regulars now order by the cubic metre, education is a wonderful thing!!
  18. Kinojango, geography has a lot to do with margins- cost of timber, haulage ie proximity of timber producing area, price per c/m at point of sale all changes depending on area of the country. Round me softwood - £20-30 per ton, hardwood - £40-50 per ton. £10+ per ton for haulage. Conversion costs are, labour per day, diesel, machine repairs & replacement fund, bags £6-8 each. Ball park for me is 26 c/m bags per day with 2 people on a processor and me stacking them in the evening to clear the area for the next day. Other costs, ppe, handling for delivery ( tipper van or trailer, how to load from bags into vehicle?), options for working with oversize timber (cheaper than processor). This is all presuming you want to go down the processor route and not do it all by hand.
  19. Not the smallest loader but not that big either, got pto and cat 2 hitch, some sleeves or quick hitch balls and your away, even one going pre-loved at Yorkshire telehandlers. The unique Merlo Multifarmer
  20. Can spot flushes by change in vegetation, often Oak on the dry to Ash and alder in the wet round us. When you get your eye in they can be seen across the valley, especially when different species come into leaf at different times.
  21. Just been sorting my FMOC for my tracked skidder (Oxtrac if you're interested) and the discussion got round to small scale extraction kit. Apparently they're going to put the Alstor together with alpine tractors and quads as a unit. Still to be written from my understanding. In the mean time the trad. units will cover it and full size machines.
  22. Your local agri supply's should be able to do a pipe for you, or are there special fittings needed?
  23. Looking to get a stem injection system. Any recommendations on which tool and where to purchase welcome, also any drawbacks with some of the more widely available sets would be good to know about.
  24. I've a small iseki (30 hp & 1.25t), climbs almost everything, limited towing trailer off road in the wood, winches well with a 3 ton unit but a big turn can be fun. Will get into positions other tractors won't, and does less ground damage in the process. If I had the cash a 50+ hp alpine with some form of cab would the unit of choice. Have used a couple of different ones in the past and bar the ground clearance issue I've been impressed with where they'll get to.
  25. Ibc units filled with rubble, cheap to buy and easy to move with tractor /telehandler etc. used locally to shut off access to a busy forestry site.
