  1. Try putting your preferred sized into the tyre calculator below, gives you some good info about speedos and overall dimensions. Will also suggest some tyres down the bottom. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
  2. Looking for the best price on the following list, pm me price if you prefer. 2 x 560 -18" bar 3 x 550 -15" bar Stihl clearing saw (replacing fs450) with good clearing saw blade. Reel of 325 full chisel oregon chain Reel of 3/8 full chisel oregon chain Chain breaker & rivet spinner set up. Harkie orange waterproof smock. A mate coming with me for some bits, fuel can, lid, pants. Nothing out of the ordinary.
  3. Good enough to buy one! Good on soft and steep weak spot is rocky or tight stumps / ploughed style plantations. Once you get used to the stick drive control is easy. Track maintenance is a pain but the ground damage is low. I've skidded 75-100 ton out over pitsteads and after a superficial tidy up you wouldn't know we were there. If you're in Cumbria come have a play or go to the demos by Cumbria woodlands - you'll only be able to watch but better than nowt.
  4. Oli, Hope the new job is working out! Got a couple of jobs creating some hardwood at the moment, but no arctic access - any use? could also mix in some softwoods to the bundle. Whats your max dia for hardwood? Cheers Dave
  5. This the one? Log Splitters Got one for an estate I work on, but not used it myself. Had plenty of my bust shafts replaced by them though!
  6. Weird I had a call the other day for wood peelings, are there any people left peeling posts in the lakes?
  7. If you make a wall mounted one post some pics, as I'm after something to deal with work boots and wellies etc. Can't stand it on the floor as the dogs race thru and spread them all over the spot. Would need to cater for 7 or 8 prs!!
  8. I'm looking for a man with a chipper and chip bus to help out for a short day. Cash and the standing dead timber for their trouble. Got a job for family in north preston, so I'll be just covering costs but need someone to help drag, chip and take away the medium sized (18" dbh) dead sycamore from the back garden. I'll be climbing and we'll both be tidying up - being able to do a tidy job is required! PM or email me with a day rate, questions and a phone contact. Cheers Dave
  9. Yep, used them for both my kids when in nursery. Took a bit of the sting out of giving them all my wages every month. Every little helps!
  10. There are a few beeches (15-20"dbh) on one of my stalking permissons with the top 10 -12' of bark missing, and it ain't no deer going up there! Big fat squirrels watching from the trees are a give away for me. Sadly not the first or last time I've seen it:mad1:
  11. I've recently stripped an old asbestos roof at home. Before doing it I did some digging around ppe and managed to find a good mask ie comfortable to work in. It's a 3m made with a pair of white domes with a central replaceable filter. It's comfortable enough that I now use it when cutting/ planing / sanding in the workshop. I also realised how little use the disposable masks are, even if they do seal and don't get saturated in 10 mins.
  12. I play a similar game to the one you're proposing. I've an Oxtrac (low impact purpose built tracked skidder) a small compact and crane trailer. The latter stacks what the ox brings out. It's cheaper to get a local contractor with an old valtra 4 pot and 4 ton trailer to take it to rd side (circa £200 per day man and machine) than fit up to do the extraction myself. The Oxtrac goes most places and the a team of two can extract cut and stack over a wagon load a day, depending on the usual factors. When I go out on contract to others with the Oxtrac, it's around the £250 man and machine mark. Extra hours and transport may be extra depending on the specifics of the case. Having said that I am considering a bigger alpine and smaller trailer (looking for retro fit drive at the moment Chris) to add to the fleet as it will help on the better sites or more selectively cut sites. It will also free up the old compact to run a processor on the skid and then it can leave the wood cut and bagged. I'll give you all a demo day when I've won the lottery and all the new machines turn up;)
  13. Followed a tesco delivery van home tonite and on the back it said "the cat. on this vehicle is secured" Never heard of it before this thread but obviously not a new thing if they've got round to putting a label on delivery vans!
  14. Cheers guys, have sprayed with roundup 450 having left it to have 2-3 leaves per stem. It's been 2 weeks and no signs of dieback. Might give it another week and run through it with a brush cutter and then give it another dose of roundup on the initial regrowth. Looks like its a bigger job than I expected
  15. Anyone know of a suitable product for a patch of cut and partially regrown bamboo? It's under a sparse beech and birch canopy, not much else on the floor as it has been so thick before our first cut. Cheers
  16. The tractor should have enough poke, it sounds like teeth. I'm assuming that you're not hearing any screeching from the belts until the blade stops and that its been fixed to the shaft securely. give it a sharpen and don't let the big pieces lean on the blade too heavily - I get mine to slow right down if I rush bigger Oak pieces.
  17. I've an OH 60, hows yours driven and how close is the dealer you got it from? I had similar trouble if I used my little tractor on the 1000 pto at low revs, not enough grunt. What state are the teeth in? just had mine re-tipped and makes a big difference.
  18. Is that steves tractor? Guess from the e-identity. Just had a look at your second hand page Jim, like the large cc carrao, can you send me some pics and details by email.
  19. Blocking a view of the lake/ fells etc is the usual one. Nice log though. If hodges mate doesn't come through I've a back up option based in Windermere.
  20. I like my crane but having to reseal the slew rams I think your right about it being a Riko rig, could do with drive from what I saw (peaty ground on a wet day, everyone's fav!).
  21. Link? U going to the wood fuel school do's (meal and woodland owners with deer issues included!)
  22. Sorry garetharb, just got a text from stu, he's sold the last load. Worth getting touch with him, as he's going your way early next week. Pm me if you need his number.
  23. Its 14"-18" max 20" all cut to 4.8m. Its been at roadside a while so its good and dry by now:crying: A mix of larch, norway, scots and douglas. Last load off a job so not sure what tonnage there will be, last load to go was 24.5 ton. Its south lakes, Stu W has been hauling it for me so I've passed on your contact to him, as he might be able to tie you into some hardwood he's shifting:001_smile:
  24. Try these guys, http://www.co2sense.org.uk/uploads/public/CaseStudy/TreeWorld.pdf Havent seen the FJ piece but have seen the above in the "flesh" along with his mini harvester. I have an RMI crane already and like it but will not be getting a trailer fro the back of my Oxtrac. I remember seeing a Utube vid, will look harder. Found it.
  25. Get both, one for practice and one for Sunday/ competition/ polishing in front of the telly
