  1. More info might help. How you going to power it if you've no tractor? is the £10K for just the processor or tractor as well, or have you got 3 phase at the yard? I've an OH 60 and it hasn't broken yet (2 years). The saw blade turns out a lot less waste than the chainsaw types and a TCT blade needs sharpening once a year and uses no oil. Downside is that it only cuts 10", needs the 6 way splitter to really turn out volume (24 cube per 8 hr day for 2 people), as well as nice straight timber. Given my time again Id still buy it, but might hold out for one with an infeed conveyor, just makes it so much less physical. Look at Mlarge and fuelwood websites, similar machines, and worth ringing to talk deals,2nd hand (if your real lucky) and they send you all the info if you cant get it off the web.
  2. Managed to bite my lip when he said lol, it's only smart looking cos I've not bent it yet! Out in anger once the hyd. ports get sorted to link up with the crane trailer, then it's cordtastic weekends ahead.
  3. Saw him on sun, he's cursing the mud as one job has had to stop due to ground conditions- can get the mog n trailer up the hill. Waiting for hard ground conditions to start in again.
  4. Happy trailing steve! Find loads of use for mine, just a bit jealous that they've sorted the jockey wheel and mudguard issues I've had with mine.
  5. Chin up Ben, I'm getting £60 a cu meter for my super dry hardwood. Might have to end up with mixed loads or straight windblow larch this year, bit short on cord this year. So will have to sort a price for it if it goes that way. Derail over - Larch, if dry enough, burns really well and the price sounds good, get it in the shed!

    Larch

Lelykins, About 20 mins south of me, where you hiding?
  7. Have seen people using thicker disks of wellingtonia. Easier to shift, easier to find @ 36"+. Some kind of band strap (pallet strapping kind of stuff) might help it last, or the disk off the bottom would be harder to split with the twisted grain. Might be worth a try...... "yes this is work dear, I've got to test this wood by spending all evening throwing an axe at it, to see if it works":sneaky2:
  8. Tried Woodmad ( on here or via web - by the same name)
  9. it seems they shoot well in Tikka's and Sako's which suits me . Not sure on that, my sako 308 got inconsistent groups with PPU 150gr, but hornady sst are sub 1/2" @ 100yds. Will try PPU in the new 243 when it turns up. The cases reload nicely so not a waste even if they don't group.
  10. Mark can u pm me your number have a contact nr Penrith with some softwood. The only hardwood I have is going on my pile you could get on touch with lumberjackpad on here he's got a hardwood contract but he's probably got lots of buyers as well!
  11. Only if they pay £20 per hr but try not to. Allowances made for age ability and distance to shed. The last lot I stacked got me cash, tea and 4 cans from a happy client.
  12. Hate them, sick of picking up wire and paper mess from my own and neighbours woods. They are up there with foil balloons that hang around in tree tops for ages. Perhaps those that use they wouldn't mind me putting a pile of part burnt rubbish in their garden ?

    Hard Wood

Try lumberjack pad on here he's got hardwood coming out soon.
  14. All of a sudden I feel young! Can't help on the club front but have curry and beer, then most places will do!
  15. Looks similar to the older spec novotny, but heavier and less payload. When I get home i'll get the site translated and see if I can get more info off it. Any leads on dealers or machines welcome.
  16. Might be able to go full time if that came my way!! Just think of all those happy hours being joggled till your internals liquify. Almost as much fun as cutting it all!!
  17. Now, a black eye off that thing is either a near death experience or just driving it off road! Will have to look at older stuff, but old forestry machines should come with a crash course in welding, agri engineering, electronics and hydraulics - all of which I don't have! Where you working at the mo?
  18. Errr yep, they're a thing of beauty on wet ground with tracks fitted. It's only the price tag that's ugly. Looked at the Vimeks, but had poor write ups on soft ground damage, only 4 driven wheels and a light build quality. I already have a knack of breaking things (stans winch line on one occasion).
  19. You said that you can't get in that mini lane with the might blue beast! Long term looking for a low impact high capacity machine contact. For all those nice flat bogs that'll need working when global warming raises sea level!?! Can u guess I'm sick of cliffs and windblow ? U done your windblow yet?
  20. Have used a framing square and an eyebrow pencil in the past. Top cut and bottom cut, then roll 90 degrees against a post/straight edge (short enough to not bother the top cut). Then line up top cut with the line, and bottom cut, hey ho a beam.
  21. Anyone know of any Novotny forwarders working? Have had a google for a dealer and can only find some for sale in europe. Have found articles about them being tested in North Yorks, but not much else. The machine I'm after is 2m or less in width, with max wheel drive and a good capacity. Suggestions welcome. For those interested in the Novotny, see below, [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5O_1doRk3w]YouTube - ‪Forwarder LVS5‬‏[/ame] http://www.loader.cz/10241/vyv-souprava-lvs_510/
  22. Try Lowther forestry, if they've not got one they'll know of one nearby. You know they muller the topsoil etc I presume. Looked at one for a recent job but decided no to as we would have killed most of the trees in wood by scalping the roots.
  23. I/We have an oil fired Rayburn up for grabs as well. Comes in fetching cream, did th heating and coking till last year, when we went wood fired heating & electric cook. All working and a glass boiler section, not the metal waiting to rust type. I'll even help you get it out (tractor fork lift etc), as you ain't getting it up the steps on yer own!! - will consider swap for appropriate number of nets!
  24. At £21 a ton, can you just chuck it in the sea and I'll collect from there, say 200 ton. I'm getting £35 a ton for mixed softwood at roadside, all small enough to go thru a processor (13" ish) or £32 a ton for softwood chip anything up to 22". From what I hear, chip/biomass are fighting with pallet, who are fighting with fencing who are trying to get what they can from sawmills, and that's softwood - not in demand for firewood.....yet.
  25. Very unlikely to give any significant regrowth. The removal of beech in a mixed woodland is seen as a good thing as they tend to out compete many other species and the leaf litter suppresses other ground flora. You could also go to a third option, space, targets and owner permitting. That is to allow them to collapse over time- gives a range of ariel habitats and a regular supply of firewood to "tidy up".
