  1. Sam got various tyres that came off a frontera my mate was scrapping. They're not 205 from memory might be 235 or 245,will check in the am if you're interested. You can have a set of 4 if there any use, just bring me 4 replacements for holding my tarps down
  2. No real personal experience beyond the stove with back boiler that feeds into the oil base heating/water system. This suits me as I've got someone at home most days and it all saves on oil.The logs aren't much more for me as I sell firewood anyway and I can cut to 45cm for my fire. Have heard horror stories about auger feed systems breaking and being sensitive to chip size and moisture levels. For a range of examples go to the web page below and look at the PDF in the wood fuel section. They're real people who have done it, but it is still a promotional document. http://www.cumbriawoodlands.co.uk/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
  3. If its like mine it goes like this. Stand a known distance from the tree-10 m in this eg. Then looking through the device so the line hits base of tree, note the number on right scale (-10 in this case). Then sight the top of the tree, ( 100 on scale in this case). This then gives you a total of 110. This is a % of the distance from the tree ie 110% of 10 m= 11 m It's a bit odd that the -ve number at start is an added to the last reading but it works!
  4. Link didn't quite go right!, click the dollykana link on the right.
  5. Cheers for the link on the trials, more reading whilst I continue to save. The bison looks likes it'll go behind a pick up- http://www.kranmanforest.com/indexf.htm If money was no option I'd go for a novotny purpose built. Not that low an impact, but a 5 ton load capacity and sub 2 metre width gives good access and fewer trips. Just need the spare £100K!! Off to the lottery tickets again
  6. Worth trying, but my local RDPE fund will not fund anything with wheels, but that's OK as I was after a tracked skidder. The Bison looks good, especially if you can tow it behind a pick up. What's its max load? I looked at the Vimek version, but heard bad things about the longevity of the crane and the driven front wheels gave more than expected ground damage in the FC trials.
  7. How's it stored at moment - loose or cubic metre bags? Would have to factor in haulage to south lakes.
  8. Cordwood - practically its regular lengths of timber sold for processing into firewood. Traditionally a cord of wood is a stack of timber of certain length, depth and height of stack, known as a cord.
  9. AJ where is the wood at the minute? Looking for more seasoned stock to cover a summer contract for firewood I've picked up.
  10. My "educated" customers get me to fill their sheds in July and August. Gets some stock moved for me after I've had time (after spring tree surgery) to get it processed. It's still soon enough for me to replace the stock and dry it for jan/feb. Usually works and means I've got capacity maxed out at the start of the trad. log buying season.
  11. -ve manual on and advance for log, short logs fall wrong way unless machine slightly angled.only comes with a 4 way split( better return with a 6 way on bigger timber) +ve low power useage, easy to fix, less dust waste & down time as blade only needs sharpening once a year, cheap to buy & run. I get about 25 cube of cut/split/bagged timber per day with 2 people, good cord and a reasonable 8-9 hr day.
  12. If you don't mind remoulds the Insa turbo website is worth a look. If you compare a couple of tyres on the link below it also lists various types available in that size (also answers questions about diameters, speedo effects etc etc). Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing
  13. I've a large (200 ton) pile of Larch ready to cut to firewood. All depends on how much you want to pay (the haulage ain't gonna be cheap!) and what size timber you can handle.
  14. Have a 6 way but on the oh60. Maybe I split mine smaller but over 4" across and it goes back thru. The 6 way does require more discipline around setting it at the right height for the diameter your cutting. I think it's a reasonable price to pay when you see a full 10" disk slide into 6 perfect logs with no extra graft or cursing.
  15. I had an old 2.8 turbo version for over 12 years. Only got rid when the front diff went at 138K. Sold it to a local farmer as a run about, last seen with a big bale in the back. Well worth if you don't mind the "agricultural" interior.
  16. Trying to get sorted for pesticide use. Have got my head round the PA1 & 6 (with or without water proximity). The area I'm not so sure on is what covers the stem injection systems for jap Knotweed etc. Ponters most welcome.
  17. Hope they're some use to you Sam. I'll have to get the Oxtrac in some pics, might have some from the next phase of that job. Good to catch up again.
  18. Sounds like you made the best decision for Rudi. I know it hurts worse than a silky cut but that shows you cared and that he'll be remembered. My last dog went a similar route, fits getting closer together so that he never really regained his usual self before the next fit. I sat on the floor of vets and blubbed for a good while, so he's a round the house in photo form and his exploits talked about with laughing and smiles. That's him in the avatar. What worked for me was spending a bit more time with the other dog, good for her as well I think and the family. Hope the pain eases but the memory doesn't fade.
  19. Hi all, More of the same coming to roadside now. If you're interested in prices etc, let me know via email or pm here (usually out of phone contact most of day). I have a haulier that's local at this end if it helps. [email protected]
  20. Not totally out here (understocked due t lack of time allocated to firewood prep- my bad!), also being asked to sell unseasoned cord - even being asked to sell fresh chestnut offsite. Saves me taking back to the yard.
  21. I don't see many farmers ramming two tups, a dog and a bag of sheep nuts in that! Or am I missing the defender core market that isn't covered by the freelander aka a working 4x4.
  22. Just looking for a recent ball park figure for 1.8m high wire deer fence, £ per meter. It'll give me a start point for talking to local contractors - most of whom are now busy on HLS contracts (which has just put £5 per meter on the price of walling work round here.)
  23. James,

I've softwood coming to roadside processor size logs, its in the south lakes so haulage is about £300 +vat for a wagon load (circa 25 ton). i'll send you a text when I'm out and have signal tomorrow.

    Dave

  24. A decent tractor mechanic should free that. My iseki had starter and clutch issues, fixed by reshaping the ring gear teeth and freeing up a sluggish slider. £200 all in instead of the £1500+ for a née ring gear and clutch plates & bearings!
  25. Mate of mine has an old cast bath over a fire pit in the garden. It gives a nice glow when using it on a clear night, the only downside is the bottom gets a bit hot. Nothing a little bit of lattice didn't fix. As for the thieves, the trees where probably worth more, more easily shifted and wouldn't need a crane - I don't get it.
