  1. Not seen munties in the lakes (yet) but Sika are pushing against the M6. Bit of an issue as the herd in the south lakes are significant in terms of bio-diversity etc etc.

    do you shoot?

Yep, Air and FAC air for squirrels and rabbits (occasional crow as it tries to stuff sticks in my chimmney!) and just started with .308 for deer. Just struggling to get some stalking of my own, all seems to be tied up or owners not open to the death of bambi's mum on their land. Dragging etc for others till it changes.
  3. But he had a letter of comdemnation on headed paper and everything..... I thought I'd seen a few things in my life, but I seem to been brought up in a convent, 'cos that takes the biscuit!
  4. Have you got a good bike shop nearby - they have to cut carbon seat posts for modern bikes, so will have top tips on working with the stuff. I know that gluing carbon is a tricky job, my mate had 2 returns on carbon bike frames 'cos the gluing hadn't taken properly, not so hot on a £2000 bike!. Drilling it - would prob work, I'd be tempted to glue the bolt in to help any delamination later - but hey I'm farm from an expert!
  5. If you can keep it reasonably "clean" and bag it up and keep it dry then a farmer with livestock will take it (trailers, bedding etc etc). My neighbour takes mine in exchange for some red derv that all goes to make some more. Saves him buying it in and me getting rid:thumbup1: This all assumes that it's not chainsaw / oily stuff!
  6. Try these mate or the animated knot site if you want click thru the stages. eye splice http://www.samsonrope.com/index.cfm?page=28 back splice http://www.neropes.com/SPL_ThreeStrandBackSplice.aspx
  7. Sounds like a cracker, will keep looking - are Nissan doing the 90K engine warranty for all their earlier models (was looking for 2006 or later to avoid the poor engines). What is she rated to pull?, I could do with 3 ton.

  8. Richard,

Where did you get the "new to you" Navara? Was it a god deal and how do you like it?

    Dave

  9. If you put your old & new sizes in this, it'll give you various measures inc. % changes on your speedo and revs per mile, which may help tweek your mpg figures. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp Steve, I'm shopping for a newer 4x4 - what made you go for the navara?
  10. Zingit here, flies nicely - there are 2 weights - get the lighter one (can't remember the sizes!) the thicker one is just about fit for bootlace.
  11. I have used these; http://www.bagsupplies.com/ventedlogbags.htm It's a pity about the usual builders bags as I have an unlimited supply of black helicopter bags used to ship stone for footpath repair on the fells - 1 trip then they're replaced. I had them stacked on pallets (2 high) under a tarp to half height (a little lower on the main weather side) and it all dried nicely. Handy size - roughly a cubic metre each so that's the basic unit of sale now. Thought they would rip, but non yet, and the bale grab used to hold them open under the processor has given them a good test due to driver error! Downside is that they come in at about £5-6 each (at last check), in bales of 20. Then delivery on top from Penrith, North Lakes. Put it this way, when the cash flow picks up I'll be getting some more and stacking the barn three high till no more fit in:thumbup1:
  12. Have you got a time scale in mind for replies? or can they get back to you in 6 months - might wind up people if they unknowingly miss the boat? Just a thought.

    chapter 8

Thanks that clears it up for me. Had been told that there were different units within chapter 8 TA
  14. Post some photos and I can compare with the last fleaby one, which was mint but only one bar & chain, and I think about what I've got to spend.

    Cheers

    Dave

  15. I'm looking at getting one of the above, have had some info from Chris Shep but I could do with some 2nd opinions / first hand experience. Any info / opinions welcome. Anyone in t'north got one that I could look at in the tin? Ta Dave http://www.alpinetractors.com/forestry.htm

    chapter 8

Which part are the lads being put through? My understanding is that there are two parts / units to it - one to set up and a different one to check / supervise that it's done right. Shoot me down if I'm wide of the mark as my employer won't put me through it - we put that kind of work out to tender. Hey ho back to ringing up the western red.
  17. I've used a mates Atlas trailer (Woodmad on here). Towed nicely but felt heavy empty - but I'm used to a 1/2 ton Ifor. Towed well with a full load (possibly overloaded as we were filling it with wet Oak 2 m lengths with a crane) and still tipped nice and easy with the detachable hand held. I can move it in the yard reasonably easily but it is better with 2 if you have to do more than forward and back by hand - not unusual for double axle trailers though. He has the extra ladder rack on the front and a smooth ally base. Not sure if he got the ramps. He tends to put it behind a landcruiser fills it with slab wood or firewood and easily drags it out of deep mud in the wood (not sure if that's the car though!). He hasn't broke it (had it over a year) which is something as he can break most things. I know that he looked for a good while before he got it and he had to get it brought up on the back of a wagon (says something as the Ifor dealer is 30 mins away). Hope it helps:001_smile:
  18. I'm interested if you can post to the sunny north. This was on Tebay for ref: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=290294925658
  19. Try these guys for a price check: http://www.Stovespares.co.uk Used to have a squirrel in the last house, cracking little stove but it went with the house.
  20. Sounds like he's keeping his toys working, good on him.
  21. That should be a good earner for him, as the swimming pool is kept at bath temperature most of the time!. Is Will going to do any of the chipping for the FC's system at Grizedale? Nice pics of the woodland work by the way, it's nice to get work like that every once in a while.
  22. Has he managed to get the Langdale boiler on line yet or are they still thinking about it?
  23. Got the same problem Conkers. This year tried bagging in mesh bulk bags on pallets, stacked 2 high with plenty of room between. The tarps have been shredded this winter and the bottom windward bags are still wet but the rest are getting there. Might be worth trying the heavier wagon weight tarp before lashing out on a barn / poly tunnel?
