  1. Yep, I'm in (have got the royal decree required for an overnight!) but will be cutting on the 13th so will be later than some. I'll just have to play catch up:scared1:
  2. Tends to get used in blocks, then sit for months. Will probably get used less with the processor turning up today:001_tt1:, but I've still got a big pile of oversized oak to breakdown. Time to check the colour and get some spares in:sneaky2: Cheers again
  3. Any way of reducing it or is it a regular maintenance situation?
  4. If you want to sort a similar type of spot in the Lakes let me know as I use a few with groups, attached to the pub through to off the edge of the map. Hurst green looks good, any ideas on when?
  5. Cheers guys. Oddly enough the power of the splitter went up after the oil & filter got changed. The oil I'm thinking of was the fist lot through it from new. if it makes any difference. I'll check the colour of the present oil next time it's out in daylight. It's stored under cover (barn cum shippon entry), and doesn't come out if it's raining. Every days a school day!
  6. Dean, What's the script with the colour of the oil, mine was grey / black when I changed it last. What should I be looking for:confused1:

    Allotment

DB87, Have they finally got round to selling them all off and putting posh houses on them or is there the waiting list from hell?. I know that my folks have converted the back lawn as there was a 3 year wait (if you're lucky) in Throckley. Nice to see the kids on the 'lotty Monkeyd, give it a few years and you'll have your own pair of diggers & pickers.
  8. Some days the Lakes are belting, then you get 2 weeks of rain and they call it summer!. The weekend was like my avatar but sunnier with snow on the tops and I was digging drains in a coppice!. Can't win them all:001_cool:
  9. Too right Max!. If you've got it now, you're sitting pretty. Firewood will not make you a king, but hey it's pretty stress free and money coming in is better than it going out.

    Allotment

Had one as a kid back in N'cle. Spent years digging spuds and barrowing "manure" - always a good source of bait for the next fishing trip!. I've go to agree with you on the raised beds - easy to maintain, no bother walking on boards to work in them, good at keeping the carrot root fly off them and you can put a strip of copper round them to keep the slugs off (if it doesn't get nicked!). Is the bit under black plastic yours? Good for killing off with but some old carpet works well over winter when it's or "resting" (no light, but lets the water and air through so doesn't go slimey). All your missing is a greenhouse, tool shed, deck chair and wind up radio, then you can retire:001_tongue: Note to self - get round to the raised beds on the garden before I retire!
  11. I spoke to Lee Lightburn (Lakes lumber) today and he said people are paying £45 per ton delivered + vat (hardwood), if they can get it. Others are being told they can get it, but there's a 3 month lead time:scared1:. Sorry but it doesn't look like there's much by way of good news for sourcing firewood.
  12. Yep, I stood in the courtyard in the rain trying to get out back in with a broom handle through my new jacket. I've unpacked my rucsac on day 1 of a 10 day exped to find the staff room mantle piece clock! and had to pack it till the end of the trip. The exploding toilet was at the end of a week of tit for tat between 2 guys whilst we were working away once. What makes you ask?
  13. I've had the pleasure of working in a company that had no probs with "Non-PC" behaviour: Strapping your work mate to an office chair, wheeling him over to the phone, strapping the handset in place and then pick someone to ring - the boss was a favourite. Gaffa taping a broom handle thru your coat sleeves and put them in a room with narrow doors with self closers and low handles. Get in their car and unbolt the drivers seat - best done in a large car park. Firey jack fed into their haemorrhoid cream:scared1: and for the extreme amongst you - Stage explosive in the toilet wired to go off when the door is opened. Happy days:closedeyes:
  14. Thanks arc, will bear it in mind as there's a forestry guarded 8150 with blade and twin trac coming up locally. Only downside is it's going on fleabay, who knows what it'll make!
  15. Twin trac is the swivel seat and 2nd set of controls for reverse driving. I'll check out Earborist, but have the pleasure of a good local(ish) Valtra dealer with standing stock and not much selling.
  16. I think you might get a shock, what did you think of the Riko set up?
  17. Thanks for the tips guys, especially the crane, most I've seen have roof mounts. Not too worried about being under powered with 10 ton behind it, wont be going that big. Even better news on the hours, as it won't be a new one. Is the twin trac worth the extra?
  18. I'm thinking of spending serious money (for me anyway!) on one of the above. Mainly for woodland work with some timber collection, local firewood delivery and occasional use on bigger surgery jobs. Any opinions, lessons learnt or advice welcome.
  19. Pm sent - any more info on the sawpod fleeces? Ta
  20. I've had some indirect conversations with the head of many things (including waste regulation) for EA at a national level. He's aware of the glich and agrees it's not their intention to penalise people using wood as a fuel or mulch. There is a gap between the legislation and the application and they're working on it (hence the positioning statement posted by Quickthorn). Unfortunately this does not stop the over zealous / incorrect application of the legislation. As an example of how messed up it can get, he told me the following example, A person gets some used coffee grounds from Starbucks. The idea is that they add them to their compost heap at home (good for the heap in some way). By the letter of the law that person needs a waste carriers licence, as they are transporting commercial waste for private benefit. No, the agency are not going to chase people for it, but the letter of the law says it's illegal! For the record I've a copy of the statement laminated and in the glove box as the VOSA boys etal are often in a nearby layby. Not had to test it yet:ohmy:

    Good pilot

Mr monotone has done a compare and contrast / spot the difference for those that are interested. Nice bit of fakery tho. [ame] [/ame]
  22. I've done some spillway repair using willow, nice a basket weaving kind of way. Not sure if it will be exactly what you're after, but it is good for less "engineered" bank repair and you can cut it to a screen in time. http://handbooks.btcv.org.uk/handbooks/content/chapter/396 About halfway down the page
  23. I'm with Ed on this one, it's the way I work (but there only 2 of us most of the time). Who's going to keep you alive till the helicopter arrives? There's a PDF on the link that might help you / your employer to get the levels right http://www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/information.htm#acop
  24. Check out the link below, I found it handy when I went shopping for a set of off road wheels. I went from 205/80 to 235/80 so I have to careful when towing, but never get stuck off road (Yet!) http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit
