    HR - then the ups

    From the album: Ski-ing

  2. Will put that availability in the mix, might suit them (something psychological about not being out doing trees for 6 weeks straight leaves them with the idea that they have some level of control!?!). No trees 2 morra, no takers for it till weds am, but got some volunteer bitches Iceman and Daddy maddy (soon to be known as Moo Moo - his pet name at home) for when the work starts. You're working on Weds if I remember. Got a date for the week you're playing with Uncle Steven?

  3. Go on then, What about March?

  4. Don't want to state the obvious - locksmith?. At least it'd be off, but not a long term solution.
  5. Have you got an excess of firewood round you? People round here are accepting, uncut lengths of green (barely touched the ground!) beech and asking for more - getting £50 a pick up load. When I get a firewood enquiry I tell them that I do 8-10" or longer on request, smaller offcuts if I've got them. I aint short of customers, I'm short of seasoned hardwood. One guy said he wanted 8-10" logs delivered, but no sycamore as "it does not burn", but he was happy with chestnut or poplar(!?!). I turned up with 4" thick split oak branches dry as you like, he looked at them and said they were too small and would only pay 50% of the price for the load. I thanked him for his time, re-loaded the logs and haven't been back. I hope he's nice and warm:sneaky2:
  6. The processor produces similar tat, it all goes in the load and I take a bag / sack with me and when unloading scoop it up and give it to them as a bag of kindling come fire starting bits. Yet to get anything but a positive response on handing it over.
  7. Seems familiar - 8-10" for most folk, a couple of customers take all my 4-8" off cuts and I run on 18" or smaller. I am getting more people asking for logs up to 14" for bigger systems that heat water etc. What I need now is a tipper or a trailer and crane - well sick of hand balling off at the other end.
  8. That is wierd, will have to cut smaller, so they dry faster and end up with more bang for my buck. Do you end up with less logs, due sawdust and splitting waste when you do small logs from large timber?
  9. I was loose filling a 1 cube bag with 18" cut wet oak and the loader gauge was coming in between 450 and 500kg. I believe that if they were cut smaller you'd get less air and more logs, so more weight even for loose filled bags.
  10. The house elf recommends - Quickshine descaler bag Boil the kettle, drop the bag in, leave for 1/2 hr and rinse - scale gone. Main ingredient seems to be some form of powdered citric acid.
  11. I've heard that the sap is a particularly nasty white sticky variety - not so good for ropes or saws. On the up side the wood is wanted by bowl turners and is good firewood, but heavy as hell. All 2nd hand so best served with salt.
  12. We (the royal we that is!) use some sachets that go in the kettle, boil it up and then rinse away the limescale - I'll sort out a trade name when the house elf has finished putting the kids in bed.
  13. How much snow have you had? We did have to grit a working area before we started the other day, that or break out the crampons. Even the branches were iced, but it was all on the ground (and rings split) by the end of the day.
  14. Have had a couple of calls from firewood customers today, not the dried deliver today type. Both wanted to secure a big (more than 4 cu m) delivery for some time in April and then again in June - for wet wood that they'll dry themselves:001_tt1: Won't pay off the mortgage but it's a poke in the eye for the wolf at the door.
  15. Credit where it's due - she kept her face straight and made all the right noises, till we where in the car and the kids asleep, then it all came out - mother-in laws etc etc. You never watched snatch? re ratio of pigs to bodies
  16. You gonna put doors and walls on that new "shed" of yours then or just electric cow / horse tape with some extra bite? I know it's bad in your wood mate, but a hotel I work at had the locked door taken off their wood store and the contents (10-12 cu m of ready to burn logs) swiped.
  17. Here you go then, 1, Pack of German caramel wafer biscuits - about 6 months past use by date and they're soggy! 2, A ex-library book of kids jokes. 3, 1.5 kilos of licorice - the soft Oz style Last but not least a 1/2 kilo pack of pork pate - given to my vegetarian wife! But whine over cos I got an Ipod Nano, waterproof case (I'd kill it inside a week otherwise) and £25 Itunes voucher.
  18. Krikey mate, a christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons! Good to hear that she's on the mend, if not running around just yet. Kids do put you through it when they're not well, but they're worth it when they make you smile as you walk in the door. Hope family life gets back to "normal" asap.
