I used to work with him when he was full time at an outdoors spot nr Windermere. Good luck with the Northampton job, not much let up in the cold from what I've seen. It's all old hardwood coppice, will let you know when it's sorted.

I've used the Parish / Church Mag route - brought me me 10 x what it cost me in the first year. The Pick up has been wrapped now so that has had a couple of people asking for cards when filling up, even one guy got out waiting for the lights and took a card!!. The best one I've had is to drop off cards with the local (less than 5 miles radius) stove fitters - most of whom are happy to pass them on once they've seen the quality of the wood. Hope it helps

I was pricing out a local firewood supplier, for him to buy cut to his spec and he only offered me £30 a ton delivered!. My impression was that straight coppice hardwood (mixed syc,ash,birch,alder and oak) would get more than that. Comments welcome. As for £45 per ton delivered, sounds a bit pricey but how far has it come and how good is it in terms of size and straightness?

Nothing wrong with having supervised fun with diggers etc with the lad, some dads never mind the kids would be green with envy - why do you think digger world is such a hit!. Having said that I was taught to swim early, as it comes easier and if you could fall in it, I did. Nearly got swept over a water fall in Glen Nevis once as a kid, no wonder my parents have grey / no hair!. As a result both my kids have had lessons, and now are not scared of water. They both respect it, but it doesn't stop them falling in. It does stop me getting a stress head on when they are on the lake shore, standing up in a boat or wandering around the gullies with the dogs on the beach. For me it's more about confidence in water, not doing a mark spitz impression. Could swimming be an additional activity you do together, instead of a replacement one? Anyway swimming builds the upper body, so he can carry more logs in at a time! -
Try these, JSP 19dB Ear Plugs - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys Don't use them a lot but nicer than cups on the rare hot days. I found that the strings got in the way on the others, especially when climbing. Save them in an old film canister so they're not so disposable.

I've gone for an IBC block (1000 litre liquid container as used by farmers for water storage etc), take the pallet off the bottom and the top / bottom of the plastic tub. Leaves a smooth sided free standing 1 cube frame to drop a bag in, clip the straps to the frame, lift off when the bags full. If you're lucky you can get them as a waste container from printers etc - just watch what they've had in them some can be nasty chemical types. If you can handle them / get enough and want to deliver loose, why bother with the bags? IBC's are designed to be stacked and come with the pallet attached, just whip the plastic tub out.

Try whole maze or the squirrel mix from the link below (website not so hot on Firefox but safari works). If you can't get up there I've a pile for a de-squirreling contract I'm on at the moment so I could let you have some from stock. Personally prefer shooting (less trudging and less hassle with damaged / disturbed traps)and LDNPA have tried both and have gone down the feeder and air rifle route. It's working out at about 1-1.5 squirrels per hour of my time (including restocking feeders). I'd be interested in what the equivalent rate for traps are (all subjective due to the locations etc but curious all the same) Welcome Beaver, Is north York park paying for trapping now or is it via EWGS money?

We had some van versions of these a while back. Off road they're excellent, we used them to unstick the toyota on many occasions. On road - noisey air cooled engines with wierd upside down gear boxes - 1 of ours had 3 forward, 1 growler and a reverse gear. Had to drive it to Hull once, talk about slow!. Parts can be costly if you have to get genuine, but they didn't break and we were far from gentle!. Last seen ours are running parapont folk back up to the top of Lakeland fells or Pennine tops and we sold them about 7 years ago!

The trees above Patterdale are in an old deer park, so there are some real belters in there, and down in the grounds of the Patterdale Hall outdoor centre. All the way up to Gimmer for one route - you must like walking!. If you're going up again try going up to Gimmer via Middle fell butress (diff) on Raven crag, makes to walk in more interesting. Could even try going to Dow crag (Nr Coniston) - nicer walk in, less veg on the routes and more 3* routes to choose from. The downside is that is greasy as, if it's even a little bit damp! The only fire boys i know are in Barrow and more interested in birds & booze than crags:confused1:

I've a wildcat predator 8 on the .308. Prefer it to the T8 as it come apart for an occasional clean, also being modular you can fit it to different rifles with different numbers of baffles, threads etc if you are sharing it round various rifles. Outside of that it's less tinny sounding when knocked and keeps the noise down nicely. Other than that PES ans ASE mods are getting good reports, no experience personally though. Nice shot and view of the larder by the way. Dean - you might be right about the killing capacity of smaller rounds, but they have to legislate for the muppet, you know the one that can afford a £1K rifle but is vague on which way to hold it!

Have tried Newton rigg, they out source to local assessors but no one's getting back to me - busy or not bothered?. Have left messages at local NPTC assessment centre who will get back to me in time no doubt. Have found a date at Myerscough but at £360 for the 2 days (plus assessment fees) it's looking a bit steep. Thanks for the replies:001_smile:

Yep, down to the yard. The mill has gone as has various other bits, still to go are the Mog (with crane) and timber trailer - see Atkinson Vos, the skidder Mog, the landcruiser, the 15t splitter, firewood sawbench, all timber (in the round and cut) etc etc Did you get your roof mount from him?

Tommer, If you aren't sorted yet then give Gareth at Woodmad a ring. He will have the timber and may even mill it for you. Could be a steal (to make up for the transport!) as he's selling everything up to go travelling (again). Woodmad - from trees to timber

If Inspya doesn't want them I'll take them - A's or C's no bother. The weather this month has shown me the value of multiple pairs of pants, boots gloves etc etc. -
My OH 60 seems to get thru most stuff. Have had issues with trying to 4 way split Oak with multiple branch junctions in, but a couple of goes on 2 way split and they're done. Biggest issue I've had is doing short logs and them not ending up straight in the trough, or branch wood that gets cut with an angled end and can ride up the splitting blade rather than splitting. Straight, fresh wood of any flavour is both easier and faster.

Would have to agree on the low life expectancy of rope, even on soft ground it soon gives up the ghost. Easy to make up your own skidding chain, just bolt 2 loops into a length of chain (one at either end) then choke it up and attach other eye to the chipper. This will work if you keep your loads light, might be a pain to undo if you go for bigger loads as the chains can bite in. If not the usual suspects can supply a hook that you can pin onto a length of chain. Pity your so far away I've got some spares on the shelf you could borrow. To get the front of the log off the ground (as per the logging arch) I've seen the front of an old plastic canadian canoe used- helps reduce ground damage and easier to drag. Used behind a quad and seems to up the amount that can be pulled each time by about 50%. Hope it helps.

Another vote for the Samsung as Killa Ferret says. Does my multicolour logo very nicely. Only down side is that the colour toners come in at about £30 a pop, which can hurt when they all go at once!

I've an air arms S410 (FAC) and a daystate X2 - both long in the tooth now but the daystate comes out more often due to build quality, consistency and a better safety system. Check out daystate - Merlin for traditional looking rifle or the Air ranger if you don't mind bottles etc at the front. Daystate

I'm reading it as the stem below gibbon split - forming a Y shape with him at the top of both uprights. Good to see this level of honesty around making human mistakes. I've made a mistake for similar reasons with a similar result (on a much smaller Lime for the record), except I was using a metal strop. Fortunately I'd attached to my centre point (as was drummed into me on my training) so the strop held the split pieces together as I exited on my main line. I can still remember the adrenaline overdose to this day.
