  1. sounds like a good case for a 20% tw*t tax to me!
  2. ferry terminal is very attractive....
  3. we have felled six very large roadside trees this year in lincoln... council are considering some injection at £500 a tree!
  4. answered no, but that option should prob be not yet. lots of silky cuts, usually when putting it back in sheath or catching it without thinking when it drops! had a cut to trousers from falling on non running saw in forestry situation. wonder if Damion will come on this thread and post his piccies????
  5. i would be tempted at that price for a back up....
  6. we dont start for a week or three yet, got a hare shoot first, then we start proper, only small walk n stand syndicate though. just a bunch of mates the got together really! only 6 shoots in total. and i am crap! good mixed bags though, hare rabbit pigeon partridge pheasant mallard teal widgeon and moorhen usually feature
  7. fried potato and brown sauce sarnies!
  8. i have never done this, but have done a number of similar challenges over the years. I would suggest waiting until june anyway for the longer daylight hours, but its all old hat now, so many people have done this, upsetting locals in the process. Avoid the big organised events for less impact, or as someone else said, welsh 3000s are an option, or sort your own route and be different! could also use the better environmental impact of your own route as a publicity tool for fundraising.
  9. thats a good idea, i think you should all try that next time!! (cue 3000 bright balloons) i sometimes struggle when i pop into town. i have spent some time looking for the landy when in fact i should have been looking for the wifes focus!
  10. apparently dropping fruit are trip and slip hazzards!!
  11. sounds an interesting project. I guess the tree was partly selected due to its age. It says in the article that it will be unveiled on the 200th aniv of darwins birth. If sacrificing one tree raises awareness and makes people stop and think, in the long term it may save many more, we can but hope!
  12. ha ha, i made a similar mistake at Brum NEC some years ago, following an outdoor show, trouble is there are many such car parks there!! I made it home eventually.
  13. there is a book available which explains botanical latin a bit, including a dictionary. cant remember the name at the mo, and i cant find my copy, but it is a small black book. quite interesting in places. I also used the word association method mentioned earlier with the Acer campestre example. after a while some become fairly easy to work out. i found it tricky to start, while at college. we had 10 each week through the two years of the course. many were repeated at different times of the year so we learnt to recognise them in all seasons. stick with it, you will get there in the end, even i did.
  14. you think thats bad, we have had a couple of apple removals recently, and a pear! but the best is apparently we have an acorn removal on a mature oak!!! council policy gone mad!

    help!

sounds like a back garden job to me so we wont have touched it. we do mostly LA work, roadside trees and council housing. had some narrow gaps to drag through in last few weeks. Number 30 must be between triton and newark roads i think. some big houses down there!

    help!

Hi Jim, cant think where this tree might be, just done some work in Doddington rd myself, but dont remember any big HC other than the two we felled. Is it a domestic job?? Who is it you are working for?? one of the local big 2 or another?? Just interested.
  17. most of our pollard jobs seem to follow storm damage. Just done a couple of fairly high profile willows in the tourist area of Lincoln.
  18. jeez, thats harsh, you hear so many horror stories about ag machinery....
  19. I had the landy up on ramps today, and chocked the wheels with wood as i normally do, but on this occasion, the wood had a weak spot. it broke and the 90 rolled back hitting both myself and my dad as we were both under it at the time. Dad had a nice BF Goodrich tyre print on his back and internal bruising, and i have bruised between the bones on my left forearm. Luckily nothing broken. Normally i would leave the truck in gear aswell, but i was working on the handbrake, so didnt this time. I really should have known better as i have done my own repairs on landys for 19 years. Just rushing in a rare dry spell and didnt take the time to check things over before i crawled underneath. The moral of this, is be careful folks.
  20. i have a ticket for a concert at sheperds bush empire in a couple of weeks (apf weekend) anyone know of a cheap hotel fairly central (poss with parking, but could go on train), dont know what time it will finish so want to avoid tube routes that close early etc.
  21. top marks for havin the balls to post about this, I too have been struggling with my felling cuts for the last couple of months, luckily without the consequences of your problems. I have put it down to getting complacent, and have since forced myself to slow down a little and have a good hard look at what i am trying to achieve. This seems to have done the trick and everything is back on track. The crappy weather certainly doesnt help, and in my case, pressure of low paid LA jobs havent helped, but i no longer let the boss pressure me if i dont feel 100% about a job. I do it my way in my own time. Hope things improve for you.
  22. had a real ratty looking 2a with a 3.0 V6 capri engine, 125mph.... interesting with leaf springs and drum brakes! wish id kept it, i upset many boy racers with that one! 90 has just gone sorn, so looking for a van at mo. any ideas, transit size, but want to fit 2nd row of seats at later date and poss side windows for the extra seats.
  23. do you mean chains and padlocks and that sort of stuff,?? cos its not really that sort of forum!!!
  24. there is a mulberry, fairly old but nothing on those mentioned here, at Riseholme college where I trained. I has an incredible lean on the trunk. Props are used to support some of the branches. Fantastic trees. If i wasnt so impatient i would plant one at home. Love the fruit straight from the tree, no time for jam making!
