    fathers day

a lie in, followed by bacon and mushroom roll, and a charlie boorman book. off to local farm park soon.
  2. just thought i'd post this, Mick Burns, our local carver has had a carving stolen from his yard, more detail listed here, dont look if easily offended lol. Thieves make off with 7ft topless mermaid statue carved from wood owned by sculptor Mick Burns near Hackthorn
  3. not sure what to do with my old boy this season, he was struggling with a days shooting towards the end of last season, he is 12 now and starting to slow down. he is also a bit deaf so recalls are much more difficult. such a shame as he was a natural in his day. never really got him to his full potential which i feel a bit guilty about. Think its time to pension him off though unless i get a nice steady day somewhere. I just need to be careful when i try to sneak out of the house without him. if he sees me in shooting clothes i stand no chance.

  5. i daren't show my face at our local tip anymore after a run in with a jobsworth. Admittedly i was being a bit naughty taking a load of conifer behind the landy. the guy came up to me and said you cant tip that, its commercial waste. I replied that it was from my own garden, and i wasnt a pro. he said i must be as i was wearing chainsaw pants and had a lid in the back of landy, i said only an idiot would use a saw without the pants on, to which he replied, well i dont when i chainsaw..... my witty retort of "and thats why you work at the $£*@ing tip" was not well recieved and got me a telling off from his boss as i left with my empty trailer!
  6. you need more info, spec for pits for the larger ones, staking spec, compost, mulch mats, ties guards to be used etc.... some places dont have a preference for these, but others are very particular what they want.
  7. didnt see any but then i couldnt fit through the entrance tunnels so who knows!
  8. Not thinking of East Park in hull are you?? spent a few weeks planting and landscaping in there lol... wouldnt want to be there after dark. The local kids scared me!
  9. I worked on a planting job at rearsby near leicester a few years back and the new bypass had large underpasses for badgers to use. one of the local farmers had some short legged dexter cattle tht were also able to use the tunnels, along with a local homeless person who set up camp in one of them. I saw a lot of the newt fencing on a planting job in uxbridge when the athletics stadium was renovated, a large area of land had to be put on on side because of a newt survey. I spent a week in waders planting up a new pond that was created for them. They even built newt hotels!!!

  12. i installed some a few years ago, near peterborough and if i remember correctly, the thinking was that they worked better in pairs facing each other, something to do with prevailing winds i reckon.
