  2. excellent, put my name down for a pup!!
  3. will try to escape scout camp for at least part of the day! only camping at Bradford anyway so might get away with it!
  4. no idea whi did the work, if Damion sees this he may know the name of a carver who was living locally on a boat at the time it appeared. if it is him, the same guy also did a pair of chairs in a local park. could possibly find out through council contacts at work!
  5. quite tempted by this course myself... feel the need to exercise the old grey matter again!
  6. certainly more interesting than just getting the stump grinder in and filling the hole with tarmac!
  7. some time ago there was a thread which included comments on carvings, and i mentioned a street tree in Lincoln (Cambridge ave) which had its stump left standing and was carved. I have been working on the street again and managed to get a few photos, but only phone piccies so not great quality. I couldnt find the original thread, so here they are, all different views of the same stem.
  8. heavy summer rain is the latest fashion here in the uk! we love it. Winter seems to be the driest season these days! i actually find i grip better without gloves in the rain, but rarely climb if it is heavy, emergency stuff only.... or get a mewp!
  9. i would be interested dependent on dates and location!
  10. we have one at work, only used it a couple of times but it seemed fairly good to me! both times resulted in fells, rot was there, only hicup we had was when some very thick bark had lifted slightly.. tree wasnt good anyway so no problem there. not heard of any issues with it.
  11. many happy returns to us all, and may the site go from strength to strength!
  12. think i will stick with the picus for now!!
  13. would be interesting to see it in use....
  14. surely this could be affected by weather conditions such as wind direction, and where the sun is etc. It sounds good in theory, but i wouldnt want to gaurentee the safety of a tree on info gathered in this way, unless it had been well proven.
  15. used for access only, but often forget its in the truck so dont use it that much!
  16. got my 200 tdi here..... all good so far (4 years). http://www.amazon4x4.com/index.php Kev.
  17. i would go to the apf and try on as many as possible, when the dealers are there to advise and adjust..... might just get a bargain too!
  18. have a vague reccolection of hearing the term before and seem to think it is a variation on pollarding, but cant remember the details. will try to dig out some notes.
  19. i also have a hilliers one which idents from leaf type. twigs, bark and features rather than pictures which is good..... use it a lot.

not sure what is good at the moment, but be careful as many struggle under tree canopies!!!! probably ok in parkland, but not great in forestry in my experience.
  22. you get massive arms when they have to pull a massive beer belly into trees!!!! the tattoo is my engagement ring!! i am still waiting for her to buy my wedding ring!!! back to the logs, parish news letters are also worth a try.... Kev.
  23. i think you can take the assessment before 16, but only get the certificate at 16....
  24. try notices in local shop windows or village notice boards, and as said before, dont tell them its poplar, they didnt use it for match sticks without reason!
  25. will try to get a couple of piccies later to illustrate the situation.
