  1. It's not quite over the border but if they ask just pretend you breed with your sister and you will be accepted. Earnshaws will custom make them if required, they aquired another saw mill last year for one off jobs. I have used them for custom measure fence panels in the past with good (but expensive) results. Kev
  2. I bought Rayco superteeth as that is what came on it and I have had no issues with them, also on an earlier thread I was steered away from the green teeth for a reason i can't remember at this ungodly hour. Total cost was £93.41 delivered from greenplant (advertised on here) Kev
  3. I've got the exact same machine, brilliant bit of kit. Also having the handle on hinge pins means the vibration is damped before it gets to the operator. Just bought a new set of teeth for mine as spares from greenplant. Excellent service.
  4. 21 again.......:thumbup::thumbup:
  5. Another Huddersfield company here that uses sub contract labour on some jobs. I will keep your number to hand Kev
  6. I assumed the toppers were there so the 12" bars could be used as a measure so the stool sat at the 12" height specified by quality control. Looks good, when your wife has finished with it surely it could be used as a outdoor toilet seat saving the need for wobbly knees when squatting out a monster
  7. blame culture. Oregan (for example) will have proven by testing their joining links are not a weak point and will have insurance covering them for sub standard loops failing. If joe bloggs at 'the council' makes up a loop has it been proven he is good enough and the bit he adds isn't a weak point undermining what the manufacturer has done. If the chain fails and injures someone is it the chain failing or joe bloggs that did a poor job - who can the HSE blame????
  8. There is a job on offer on the right side of the pennines and you want money as well. You will be asking for a dinner break next!!!:001_tt2:
  9. how about assisting with cadets or scouts or similar. That might feed the need to help others???
  10. That works well provided you are actually making money after ALL deductions. There is no point going out on a £200 tree if your costs are £150 (including hourly wear on all kit) and you have to pay £50 for the labourer. You have been out knackering yourself and your kit for nothing. I work 3 days a week and find I can pick and choose my jobs leaving the low/no profit jobs (and pain in the arse customers) to those who feel the need to break their balls 40+ hours a week to increase their turnover (not necessarily profit). I honestly don't think I would earn a lot more by working 5 days over the three I am doing now
  11. No No No You do not lower your rate you increase your (hourly) rate as you can achieve more in a hour. That £300 tree is still a £300 tree only you do it in 4 hours not 5 so you can get a cheeky £100 conifer in on your way home therefore make more money in the day
  12. An extra tenner a day to tow the chipper - I don't want your fuel bills!! I only did about 7000 miles in the landy last year, and less than half of that would be towing the chipper. Also my chipper only weighs about 450kg and the difference it makes to the poor MPG of a landrover isn't even noticed. I would say the extra cost in towing the chipper would be covered by the extra runs you have to do when carrying brash
  13. I only work 3 days a week which could account for the low incidence of breakdowns. Buy well and you won't lose any money on the chipper. Look after it and it will look after you. You can also make additional money subbing yourself out to gardeners or other tree surgeons to chip and remove their waste if you choose. Mine goes out at £50 per hour (operated by me), min 2 hours a time to a couple of local landscapers once a month or there abouts.
  14. fuel £10-15 per day, absolute maximum £25 if it runs full bore for 5 hours blades about £5 to sharpen one set per fortnight, still on the same 3 sets I got with the machine 3 years ago service about £50 for parts and a couple of hours to do it 3 times per year grease about £10 per year One offs over the last 3 years have been an axle as I bent the original - £250, new switches - £20 The chipper (Yr 2000 entec 25hp 6" petrol) cost me £3000 3 years ago and I could sell it for the same money tomorrow I am sure. Hope that helps
  15. I ran for 18 months with a pickup and high top like that. Open the back window, chip until full, close and drive off
  16. Again the clue is in the name. What are they auditing - the accounts, the business and it's assets. I (the business)own no yard so there is nowhere to visit, all the kit is listed in the accounts as assets and does not need to be physically looked at the establish it's existance (receipts prove the purchase). Hand tools are instant write off, chainsaws are written to scrap in 24 months, van and chipper write off as per HMRC recommendation. I am a sole trader not ltd and not VAT registered so there is nothing to see other than receipts, copies of invoices and bank statements. The bank ask for a copy of auditted accounts and have been happy for the last 5 years with what they have received. What would a home visit add?
  17. Why do they have to come to your home and business address? They are auditing the accounts not the colour of my sofa. They do need copies of all bank account statements which I have my name on to check all income streams. I hold no stock (firewood appears as if by magic from the waste pile), so no stock takes to audit. I sell nothing but a service so what is there to see on a visit The same accountant has done the books from the start so no handover to check
  18. Dean, As previously stated you cannot pay someone £5k tax free who already works and therefore claims their tax free allowance from another employer. You could pay your daughter to do your books, your dad to clean your kit and your mother to wash your work shirts at £5k each per year tax free provided you list them as employed or they invoice you and declare themselves as self employed. When you say £21k profit is that the amount you have made in the year or the amount you have left over after paying yourself a wage? Are you drawing a forces pension (or making money elsewhere) that uses up your tax allowance? My accountant charges me less than £200 a year and is provided with a file with receipts in date order, an excel spread sheet detailing these receipts and a list of income for each month. That figure also 'insures' me against investigation (if i get investigated my accountant will do all the paperwork and be present at all meetings at no cost to me). She is also about 5 minutes down the road from you Dean!!! There is a figure the accountant uses for home office use, this removes the need to submit gas, elec, ect bills. This is set by HMRC so is not questioned All clothing for work use can be claimed for, again there is a figure that can be applied for laundering it and removes the washing machine, powder, etc from the lists There is loads more, I will dig out the list from last year and let you have a copy
  19. Why Lee??? It is always helpful to give a little explanation with a statement like that.
  20. Was it not the 26/27th last year and it is just a 2009 thread resurection?????
  21. These are local rules, not sure of they extend nationally
  22. As far as I know they are only allowed to tie the things to lamp posts and they must be above a certain height. Any boards must not be mounted on trees, power or phone poles but can be put on posts in the fields. However when have any politicians followed any rules??
