  1. After 10 minutes of thinking - No there aren't but we still all love them
  2. You could operates 'Robs tree choppers' as part of the Rainford contracting services group of companies. However if your dad is VAT registered you could be operating at a disadvantage to some other local tree co's (for domestic work) as you would have to charge VAT on all your work. If you set up as an independant company and operate under the VAT threshold then you will not charge VAT. You cannot however claim VAT back on your tools, fuel, etc if you are not vat registered.
  3. We are all friends and colleagues on arbtalk and will help each other out where possible, if the mog has had the necessary done to it then with proof or the work the benefits of the vehicle will be pushed by those in the know and this site will help a sale. If however the vehicle needs repair then surely it would be wrong to sit on the knowledge. It is our duty to point out the information and history of the vehicle which is already available on this forum. A search of this forum will reveal that Mog was sold to AV with 'issues' by an old member of this forum. If it has been sorted it could be a good machine, if not it could be a money pit. If you were looking to buy it would you want to know it's history from an un-biased set of people?
  4. Message Bob, he did his last year. Kev
  5. That's the one Dean, i got those figures from multimap too but couldn't work out where to input them to get directions.
  6. No postcode or address, the wood is in the middle of farming land. The reason for the long winded expanation is the only land marks once out of Endmoor are hedges, fields and sheep. If someone can tell me how to give the electronic map reference for something like multimap then I will gladly do it but for an idea I have included a map showing the wood(red circle) and the motorway junction.
  7. More Info Date now confirmed as Saturday 4th September. I will be there from 10ish so anyone welcome from then on. Directions M6 Junction 36 and take the A65 towards Kendal. If you are coming off the M6 north then it is a right at the main roundabout on top of the M6 then a left at the smaller one. Follow this road for approx 2 miles into Endmoor Village. There is a co-op on the right hand side, shortly after this (100m or so)there is a right turn signed Gatebeck were the village clock is. Take this turning (woodside Road) along the right hand side of the white house (NOT A 90 DEGREE RIGHT), follow this to the end. At the end turn right over the narrow bridge to the give way and turn right again. Follow this for approximately 1/4 mile and take the first left you see. Follow this over the motorway, straight across the cross roads and round the various bends until the road levels out. Warth Woods is on the left hand side, turn in through the wooden gates there is ample parking at the bottom of the shingle track. I will put up a load of Arbtalk signs on the various turn offs on the Saturday morning. There is a toilet in the woods and I will light the BBQ provided the weather is OK. There are plenty of trees to climb, I might get the quad out, the canoes are available and there is loads of mushrooms and other fungi for the geeks. Interest has been shown by STS UKMinch Armchairarborist Mozza JPbeaver SJH Dean Lofthouse Ian Leach Penfold Sparko Lancsmike 18 Stoner Stevie Blair ?? Rob Rainford Pete McSarnie An idea of numbers would be good and I will go to Asda and get a load of tea/coffee/chocolate/pop. Any problems my number is 07867 784521 Kev
  8. Not really, I lay the saws side by side so I know what goes where and can compare bits (like wear on the pot!!) on each one. Last time I tried that with 2 women they got a bit upset.
  9. That's not even full never mind over loaded, there is room for a couple of quick connie jobs on the way home. Overloaded is when the big chainsaw is on the passengers knee and you have kit tied to the chipper.
  10. speak to RobD - he knows everything there is to know and is a good bloke to deal with. From my personal experience, buy bigger (say 6") than you think you will need. You can run these things on a smaller bar very easily but need new rails if you decide you need to go bigger in years to come. I've got a 36" mill and run it on a 24" and 30" bar regularly. Not sure on the saws but I see no reason why a husky couldn't be used if you feel the need to use inferior kit:001_tt2::001_tt2:
  11. The angles are so far out on a landie you just don't notice it
  12. Maybe the ball and chain has gone out and forgotton to fasten him to the kitchen sink again
  13. I have no issues with you spending £6-700 on putting the truck right but what about the £1300 you will be profitting? Will you declare that to the tax man as a business profit as it is a works truck on a works policy? Why do you need to sell it if you are spending money on having it put right? Why will you be 17.5% down. You (probably) didn't pay vat on the truck in the first place and if you do feel the need to buy another you will either claim the vat back or if you buy it from a non registered seller you won't lose it on the sale in a few years time either. I have no issues with the hire truck up to the point a sensible offer is made.
  14. I don't think you should make a loss at all, I think you should get it repaired, paid for by the insurance company and then keep using it. Why should you get it repaired and have money left over? If it is repairable and costs less than the vehicles value I don't see why the insurance co's don't just get on with repairing them. There is an increase in premiums due to drink drivers i agree but a lot of the money goes on hire cars etc. You were offered a settlement that would have put you in a similar vehicle and you turned it down happy in the knowledge that it was costing the insurance co a small fortune in hire car charges. 4 years ago my missus was crashed into, the car went to a main dealer for repair (the car was only worth £3k tops), she was in a hire car for 13 weeks while they dragged their heals repairing the car. It only needed a wing and suspension arm. The repair cost £750 in parts and labour (fair enough), £1200 in storage (while the insurance companies argued who was paying) and nearly £3k in hire car charges. Rediculous.
  15. Straight on fleabay? Your initial argument was the van was worth more to you than the insurace co was offering and you felt hard done to by the offer made as you haven't got the time to look for another vehicle. However you are now happy to profit from the insurance payout and suddenly have the time to arrange repairs, sell it and buy a replacement. There is a reason why insurance premiums are so high!!!
  16. Do you need a clip board and pen and instead of climbing you can decide who is climbing what and when........:001_tt2:
  17. With regards to date, how does the 4th September suit people? Yes Bob, I could be talked into getting a harness on. Stevie, the wood is about 10 minutes from where you took a sleep on the way to Deans for the last Jonesie show. Scots would be welcome and would not be treated with the same contempt shown to southerners at Dean's gatherings.
  18. Before hopefully, I want this to involve some climbing, it isn't going to be a stenner stairlift race.
  19. Would anyone be interested in a get together in a woodland just off the M6 near Kendal? There are plenty of trees to climb as well as a few other activities should people want (flying trapeeze, canoes and scope for a zip wire). BBQ facilities are available, parking for plenty of cars and there is even a loo!! Booze and snooze isn't a problem, there is a static caravan and lodge available to sleep in. Any weekend late August or into September. The woodland is 10 minutes from Jn 36 of the M6 motorway. Post below if interested
