  1. 3 pints of stella and a pork butty if you are asking.......
  2. When I was on the chemical works we would send the trainees for a bucket of steam to the power house. The lads in th epower house were used to this so would put a couple of inch of hot water in the bottom of the bucket, put the lid on and give it back to the trainee and tell them to be quick. When they got back you took the lid off, the 'steam' had condensed so they were sent back and told to be quicker this time. 4 journeys was the record for one lad
  3. Bob is just over the hill in holmfirth, drop him a PM
  4. I have used Jonesie, clarkes and Honey brothers (and my local stealer) depending on what I am looking for. Sometimes one supplier has a special offer that brings there price way under anyone else out there. As said above, if you are chasing every pound and have the time then ring around everyine for everything otherwise just pick your closest or go with previous recommendations
  5. I think you will fail to gain money for a 'debt' from the previous tennants. The best you would get would be to document the condition of the access as it is now and agree and have signed proof that it is the new owners job to ensure the standard is maintained, this could be by an annual payment to your father in the form of a maintenance contract. However as stated above is there anything in writing in the covanent that states what the access is for, e.g access road would suggest all powered vehicles, track would suggest 4x4 only. This could be used as a get out clause as in it isn't needed to be such a high standard. Does your dad use the lane as well? If so does he also cause wear and tear? Kev
  6. I looked into this a few years ago and was told by a couple of insurance companies that there is no difference in premium as liability wise although you are doing less tree work you are also less practiced so a greater liability per man hour worked. Some insurance companies base your premiums on your turnover so the policy is cheaper if you are turning over less money but there is a lower limit to this. Thjis might be the way forward for you
  7. I can hire a 9hp pedestrian grinder for £35 +VAT per day but the hire company that had it didn't keep the teeth that sharp. I seemed to be hiring it every couple of weeks and sometimes had to sharpen it myself before use so decided to buy. It helps when I can go fetch the grinder for a single stump and get paid on completion rather than have to store a load up,lose a days new work and have to revisit jobs twice.
  8. I paid £1400 for the camon equivalent last summer if that helps
  9. and i'm worried. I live within a few miles of both of them
  10. was it a really good total removal???
  11. Similar one for me today. 5 and a half hours in the top of a hedge remving 8 foot to leave just 20ish foot on a steep garden. The drag was a nightmare for the groundie
  12. I did this for a couple of years. If you earn less than about £4.5k (value goes up each year) you can register for small earnings exemption for national insurance. It's just one form to fill in. You will get a tax return to fill in annually details from your P60 (employed info) and add in the details from your self employment and away you go. You can always make a loss on the self employed bit from buying loads of kit and you will get a cheque back from the tax man as overall you would have overpaid tax. You pay tax at the appropriate rate on you combined earnings, because your employed earnings will use up all your tax free allowance everything you declare as profit on your self employment will be taxed at 20% up to a total of £45k-ish then 40% over that Phone the tax office and tell them what you want to do, they will send out an info pack and add you to the tax return lost. Simples Drop me a PM if you need more info
  13. contact someone like Orange Plant who will more than likely have spares
  14. New one ordered from Jonesie, just waiting for it to come from Stihl. I am sure I must get a prize for finding one of the only things Jonesie doesn't have on the shelf for immediate dispatch. Quick review to follow
  15. 230 would have been my suggestion too but at £340ish it will be one step too far. Looks like a 181 from Mr Jones in the morning then
  16. Father in law has rung saying his B&Q special is terminally dead and he has decided to replace it with a better quality saw. It will be used for a bit of felling and firewooding, his last saw cost £80 so spending £400 on a saw is a no go. It needs to be presentably light for a retired bloke to carry around his wood all day. Is the new MS181C-BE worth it's money over say a 170 or the base model 181? Would you recommend anything instead?
  17. What size bulk bag? What size logs? How dry? Overflowing or filled a few inch from top?
  18. 300kg ish (and that's a big ish)
  19. I can not beleive that while reading this thread first time at 5:05 my phone rang with a teary woman asking if i could rescue her cat. I was home alone with the kids so couldn't respond but passed on the number for our very own tight yorkshire one. Let's see if Deano is a superhero.....
  20. Land cruiser (Like Dean's at least) are 3.5 ton tow capacity
  21. controlled depth bark stripping / ring barking
  22. When I got stopped by VOSA with my lass driving towing an empty car transporter he made me take over the driving as I have pre 97 licence. He said that even though the trailer is less than 750kg empty it has the potential to be loaded to 3.5ton so is illegal to be towed by a post 97 licence holder as you have the ability to break the law. I asked him what car he drove, he said a 320BMW. I asked how fast it would go, when he said why I said if it will go faster than 70mph then surely you are breaking the law driving it as it has the ability to break the law. He had no answer, agreed the law was wrong and open to interpretation. In fact you shouldn't be driving a vehicle with a tow bar and NO trailer with a post 97 licence as you have the ability to hitch up a greater than 750kg trailer and therefore would be illegal.
  23. You needed something to bite down onto while your groundie had his fun behind you???
