  1. :001_tt2:You need a tree experts forum for that, we are just a bunch of gear junkies here.
  2. I was quoting the price offered at the AA for gallon cans (Approx £13 a can), I for one do not want 200-250 litres of fuel in my garage/workshop as it would seriously affect my property insurance premiums and I do not use more than a couple of gallons in a heavy week. I would therefore want to buy a few gallons at a time and at the price quoted at the AA show it comes out at approx 3 times that of unleaded. This product isn't right for me, I can understand people who are milling using 20 litres in a day thinking about emmisions etc but in a weeks milling you are looking at 60-100 pounds extra in fuels, I would rather have that in my pocket. Kev
  3. As a graduate chemist/chemical engineer with many years organic manufacturing experience some of these shock marketing tactics really annoy me. Yes you are exposed to higher levels than would be ideal but it isn't going to kill you. Are you saying in the inefficient 2 stoke engine that Aspen fuels pump out nothing but lovely smells and fresh air? Stihl saws at least are designed so the exhausts blow the fumes away from the operator, the air dilution factor must reduce the OEL to a legally acceptable level or Stihl would have to recommend the wearing of a mask. I could spend hours with replies to this but suffice to say shock marketing does sell. Bull***t baffles brains so they say!!! Kev
  4. Nearly triple the cost!! although you don't need to add the 2 stroke mix.
  5. The AMA is definately worth a shot but it isn't a 200T. Provided you know that and are willing to accept it's limits then you will be fine. I would still look to do another conifer job somewhere to find that £52ish needed for the ultimate topper.
  6. Try and save the extra £50 needed for a new 200T or look on ebay/place an ad on here for a nearly new one. There have been a few listed on here recently.
  7. Silky gomtaro 300, would use a curved one but being a lefty makes them a pain
  8. The Arb & Forestry Event 2010 || F.R. Jones and Son
  9. Absolutely excellent, this is the kind of person we all aspire to employ, I hope you find one. I hate having the kind of person you have to watch all the time as they need to be told what to do every 5 minutes. Explain the job on the way or at the job first thing then it should just flow.
  10. was that a commision or could it be for sale?
  11. I beleive it's south of sheffield - they talk funny down there but they do have that new electrickery stuff
  12. It definately makes a change when there is someone involved who is willing to listen to what the masses want instead of telling them what they want. Hopefully by next year the show will have changed for the better when all (or most) of the suggestions in the various threads have been inwardly digested by the AA review commitee.
  13. The advertised food today was a pork pie and a can of cider for a fiver, I took my own so didn't venture in the food tent to see what else was on offer.
  14. Paul, Mmmmmmmmm Carlsberg (and cold at that!!) Thanks Kevin
  15. Setting off in an hour or so, will be there Friday only with the father in law. What time is the meeting at the arbtalk stand then?
  16. I'm going down tonight for the show tomorrow. 350ish mile round trip for me and I'm only really going as I couldnt do Capel. The beer and food is poor and too expensive - especially after having to pay an entrance fee. In my opinion decide where you are making your money, beer/food or admission not both. I am quite sure you make a killing from the various traders already. Why friday/saturday? If the friday is for all those LA (and other employed) bods that get a paid day to walk around the show why not stay open Saturday and Sunday for the general masses, with camping you would find a lot more people there for the weekend I am sure. Why are ALL the shows down south?
  17. Do they want the other big limb leaving on or are they after a pollard? If they want it pollarding then go for it, if they want the other limb on then I think you are right about the structural integrity of what you would leave. I would refuse.
  18. I got some from a company called Emtec EMTEC NOISEBREAKER CUSTOM MADE EARPLUGS that have a filter in. Use them for tree work occasionally but mainly for shooting. You can hear normal conversation without a problem and they block noise as they should. They are very different to muffs, they don't block all sound they just seem to turn the volume down. Cost was approx £70 a couple of years ago. A lot of the companies use different filtering methods, speak to them to make sure they will work for your application as some of the ones designed for shooting will only cut out loud bangs. They have an active flap that closes over a hole when the gun goes bang, they do not work on constant loud noise e.g. chippers as there isn't the pressure wave to close the flap.
  19. Don't forget it's the Jonesie show on the 6th August
  20. I bank with HSBC and pay no monthly fees what so ever. Limitations are maximum 20 cheques per month pay in, 1% charge for cash in or out. I do not use many of the business banking features but for what I need there are no problems at all.
  21. Could use the woods I have in Kendal if required, car parking not an issue for 15-20 cars, 10 minutes off the M6 Jn36, camping/bbq/firepit/toilet available in the wood. This would allow the scots to join us if they so desire Kev
  22. the tipper/chipper combi is CHEAP!!! Think realistically what the machine costs you to run an hour include depreciation and fuel costs, add a decent wage and you will want more than that. I get near on £50 an hour to include removal of the arisings from a number of landscapers (minimum 2 hours). What you have to remember is they usually deal with small trees/shrubs/similar which often contain stuff which will blunt your blades alot quicker than limb after limb of nice clean hardwood. Up your rate and make it hourly not daily and you will ensure you are working when there and not sitting waiting for stuff to chip. It sounds a lot of money but when they see what you can do in an hour they will come back, also they will be organised or it costs them money. I initially argued my price as being able to clear 2 £100 skips worth in 2 hours hence saving them £100. It's easy money
