  1. To go with that I would not want to pull more than 4-5 tonnes with a 100hp tractor on the road , especially if there is hills! From experience it’s not fun trying not to crawl up at 10 kph then go over 60kph and try and stop on the way down.
  2. Looks like they bent the tree over so the top was in a better DZ or do they really grow like that?? Either way I would not of wanted that tree!
  3. I genuinely think there should be an easy quick exam for the country code done online , if you don’t have it and venture out in to the national parks etc you get fined as it seems plenty of people don’t know how to conduct themselves in the countryside.
  4. Wow .... I wonder if you would feel the same if we all come traipsing through your property taking what we wanted, dumping rubbish , scaring your pregnant or with young livestock... I may have slightly agreed with you but in the last 6 months with the great British public venturing out illegal camping , poaching , endangering livestock , vandalising woods and trees and pretty much any other I can do what I want behaviours there should be stricter anti trespassing laws.. I’ve seen people poaching , dumping rubbish, shooting crossbows , dogs chasing wildlife and livestock and that was only in the last two days...
  5. What does he want for the 220’s out of interest?
  6. If you don’t reprune/pollard an already pollarded tree especially poplar that is prone to rot,the regrow in most cases will then fall apart when it gets to an age ... damage has been done. So either let them fall apart naturally or hit hard leaving wildlife habitat maybe even some coronet cuts to encourage more wildlife and fauna. I would hazard a guess they are riddled with hornet moth too.
  7. I’m not often in the woods but have been felling beech on there final thin this week , some of the trees are around 3ft all are double cuts on a 18” bar any way, I’ve been drifting between the 400cm and 462 and a 550 for snedding , have not once felt the need to pick up the 500i and to be honest the 462 is faster in unknotted timber anyway,500i just seems to have loads or torque for dressing out buttresses but is slower in an average cut, heavier and drinks fuel.
  8. Yes you can , but why would you ? It would drink fuel and burn out a £1000 saw pretty quick, I’d put the 16 if its for cross cutting/felling , if it’s for snedding I would use a 550xp 15-18” to keep fatigue down and costs down.
  9. Secret with twin or tri axle is to wind down the jockey wheel until there is only the back wheels touching the ground and then they are easy to manoeuvre... I move a huge tri axle by myself doing this.
  10. No your right .. in those circumstances I would not bother , we get rhi for ours and to be honest the log boiler has been a massive pita right from the start and I’ve difficulty in restraining my self from visiting the person who persuaded my father to install it. Being off grid it was not compatible with any of the renewables already installed to make it run properly ... the parts are virtually none existent and it requires quite a bit of maintenance... on the plus side it’s pretty amazing when it is sub zero...
  11. Rhi payments will be making more money than the log business on that one! That’s the thing if you got on a good tarif... missed the boat now though.
  12. Running as a business it will probably fail , if you run it as a way of life and spend every minute of your spare time cutting logs and are not worried about hours put in to money back you will survive! Nearly every company I’ve seen set up over the last 5 years has packed up after one or two winters. We run a similar operation to otter and it makes money but I’m pretty sure if I sat down and worked out the hours and diesel wear and tear on equipment put in you could argue it does not.
  13. Beauty ! We have had a terrible salmon season on the Tyne so far, I’ve only managed Landing two ! Well Over 15 sea trout though the largest 11lb sort of makes up for it.. I did loose a cracking last Friday that I had on for over 20 mins , down to the backing twice the. could not get it on the net and then so after the 3rd attempt I thought I’ll beach it before the hook goes which it did when Trying that [emoji23]
  14. What sort of failures ? I have to be honest rob and think the sugi nose sprockets are to brittle , that is the only bar failure I’ve had and can’t see how that’s connected to worn drive sprockets.
  15. Aye tommy I’m not doubting it is but it just looks too over complicating a relatively easy set up. One thing I did notice many years ago , I did find a bit of a transition period for climbing on a pulley and getting used to less friction in a system , its easier to pull your self up but not hold your own weight until you got used to it...but I’m convinced it’s why double rope started giving me a lot more Injury’s too, I think actually locking your arms to hold your weight with virtually zero friction does not do your elbows wrists any favours on long ascents and why for me SRT is the way forward.clip that rope on your foot and it’s effortless in comparison.
  16. There is only one true king for double rope climbing and that’s the rope guide, all the others are poor imitations or contenders.
  17. [emoji38] tell you what les when you get to about the 5th artic load in the middle of summer and the stuffs sticking out of every pore you may feel the same ! Thank **************** I’ve only one maybe two wagon loads left and then on too 5 Sitka loads which will be heaven.
  18. I find with a circular saw on the processor the dust feels like you have done a days loft insulation naked.. especially with Douglas.
  19. My Jack Russel has a habit of going mental when branches touch the van if you have too pull in on a tight lane to let another vehicle past, twice when I’ve had the window open in summer I’ve looked over and he’s gone and all I can see is the idiot hanging off a branch in the side mirror, don’t think I would ever restrain him though.. have put him in crates in friends cars and he just gets to anxious and pants so loud during the journey it drives you mad , suppose at least you won’t hear that in the back.
  20. Lazy git who’s thinking of every reason why I should not mill some of that twisted out side tree crap that’s been passed off as saw logs in my pile , un yet I don’t want to cut it up for fire wood!
  21. Go to the calling America thread and he’s on there [emoji1303]
  22. It’s a bastard to mill too.... [emoji38]
  23. I’d rather cut Norway or Sitka on the processor, larch and Douglas saw dust is nasty along with handling the final product.
