    I’d leave it be , or use cobra if you have too like mick said ... if you do brace the tree with cobra the cables want to be two thirds above from the unions you think are week, to be honest they look fine to me.

    Cool , I know f all about welding really , I’ve always had decent machines set up for me when I had big projects in my mates garage but I brought some thermal arc thing at the recommendation of Arb talk a few years back but it seems to burn out generators and I dare not stick it in our house supply as it’s off grid with expensive inverters , it’s trips it instantly when I have tried any way .... I think I’ll sell the thermal arc and buy your set up, sounds like what we need.

    I’ve found overland very helpful for schliesing parts and on a whole they are a far more agricultural machine to work on than other brands .. but I do know the where abouts of a very good chipper mechanic and the difference between him doing work on a machine and another reputable company who I last used is massive , I’d rather some one spot a future problem and resolve it than patch it up and hope for the best for it to come back in 6 months worse than when it went in the first time and try and sell you a new forst on green mech if they are now dealers for them! If he’s in the north east I can give you the company and mechanic to deal with , he formally did all the schliesing repairs for warranty years back when he worked for another company so knows his way around them.

    Evo swinny, it’s alright apart from that but I think any harness you buy now will have to have those quick release buckles which is a shame as that what was good about that harness , once you had it adjusted to your build it was perfect (if you liked it!} but now it slips off you!

    I went from a Willians to cresto sky belt and had a few tree Austria’s and now on my fourth tm .. I honestly can’t find a comfier harness but every one is different! Only down side is the new TM is the buckles adjust them selves but a bit of pine sap in the webbing seems to have solved that.

    If you go over 28” you will be limited really to skip chain.. that’s not something a lot of dealers have in stock so it’s not like you can wreck a chain and pick one up to finish the job from the shop down the road... there isn’t much a 28” bar won’t cut and the shorter the bar the easier it is to maintain and keep sharp and cut with to manoeuvre and fell a large tree, and given the state of a lot of bigger trees especially ash it would be safer to use bore cuts any way.. using a 48” bar on a stump yesterday I had forgot what a pita big bars are and also there is a bit of skill to using them effectively so swapped back to the 500i on a 28” just because it’s that much easier.. big bars for me only have one place really and that’s on a chainsaw mill.

They may well have them too as it’s well recognised that the standard Protos muffs are not rated for chippers or any big saws.

    Change the ear muffs to peltor ones ! The ones on there are hopeless for protection and fall off when you look at them.

    Also with your gear that you have invested in and years of experience you could probably get two to three times the amount done in a day. I won’t do day rates any more just to cover labour its mental and you can’t replace or buy anything to make a job easier if you carry on like that.

    I did have ours on water ballasted tyres and it was pretty good for skidding even though they where turf tyres, didn’t have the trailer for it then though but recently have changed to wide agris and didn’t get them re ballasted which I regret but makes towing easier on lighter trucks but they are pretty limited on flat ground with the 3 tonne trailer, it won’t leave a mark loaded but struggles even empty up wet slopes, as you have found... but to be honest right now any machine you have won’t be going anywhere fast, it’s been a wet year ! I even had the valtra slipping side ways when loaded but not moving on slopes and every time it came to unload the trailer we where having to use an 8t tajfun to pull it back out of steep bits to empty.... been a hard year to work in woods but alpines in winter will struggle in greasy mud and as soon as you have broken the crust forget it!

    6ft trees will be hard to transplant! If they survive they will look terrible for a few years ,Better off with cheap bare root small trees they soon catch up n 4-5 years.

    Christmas trees are seen differently until the 8-9” can’t remember exactly as i was having a conversation about working on other sites I need permission for but that’s what was mentioned as he knows the site and said be careful.. I just mentioned it as that’s why drinkslows friend could be removing his trees now to replace...
