  1. Was still cutting them in 2011 🤷🏼 timber merchant sharks !
  2. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/profile/100010353068445/?ref=permalink&tab=listings Looks the business , cheap for what it is too.
  3. There are so many factors and other vectors involved,!no tree , location or weather will be the same and that sharing years of experience couldn't be summed up in a few paragraphs , spending and having some one share experiences hands on would be far better... or by learning from your own errors as long as your not putting your self in danger it's not rocket science but experience will give you the knowledge to know when and how to use cuts best for the situation.
  4. Not only do you increase the risk of leaving tears and damaging the collar if you cut close in a big heavy branch will also damage buttress roots and trunk if it hits them. Different woods and cuts will al have different out comes the larger the timber to a degree the less predicable it can be.
  5. Spanish Rioja or argy Malbec with a rare cooked steak for me... other wise I'm on any lager or IPA to quench a thirst.
  6. I was chatting to a harvester driver today who had been called to clear wind blow on the forest roads and he recons the estimate was less .but that could be just for the west of the forest where we are.. I did have the FC ringing up on Sunday for hand cutters to get the roads opened around spayed Adam as they recon it's been flattened but again I've not seen it first hand.. it's bad though , village up the road still has no power or water. It's going to deflate the market for sure !
  7. What ever the winch is rated to but I doubt it would be suitable for any thing over 3 tonne if that! , it's the gearing on the winch not the tractor that makes the pull ... I think [emoji38] I've used 4 tonne winches on 40hp tractors and your more likely to flip the tractor than stall the winch. But you do need the HP when you start going up in tonnes from memory.
  8. Does any one know where I can get a block that drops the cable when the winches log comes in to contact with it ? I've seen them being used on the forum before I think it was slack my girdles post??
  9. Probably more likely to become unstable if you leave them in.
  10. Steve thanks, that means a lot but I probably deserve any hate for the last few posts on this thread , and I'll be honest I'm not that bothered what folk think of me and never really have been , but have had a few life changing experiences over the last 5 months and some of them made extremely unpleasant by anti hunt mob towards my partner .. my anger should be directed at them who I know well and not some one who disagrees and sniggers at my not so eloquently and probably incoherent messages on an Internet forum when I'm trying to portray any valid reason on why I think trail hunting is not bad , I'm probably best off putting energy in to other things that are far more pressing at this time.. I am genuinely sorry if I have caused folk upset including particularly Kevin, so I'll stay off for a while and shut up on the matter.
  11. I never really was a 261 fan , had a couple but I'd take the 550 over it all day, but I'm happy with the 400, good all round saw in hard and soft wood and I'd happily take on and fell any tree that I could double guide bar and letter box cut with it.
  12. It's been banned since 2004.. now I don't know really about the rest of the country but I know my local hunt has no terriers , they are nearly all working class hill farmers who meet up because they have been great horsemen for generations and it's a good day out for them to meet up with friends , no toff vile sadistic killers there just some of the nicest genuine people I have come across.. the only people who object are folk like my partners ex boss whos mental ness I could write a book about..Now I can appreciate there is some ville utter bell ends involved in the sport , the hunts master local to me when I lived down south knocked me for 1k on the first job I did self employed and didn't pay up until my local pub said they would not serve him until he did ....he then took me for a ride in his plane and then started on how people like me should be working for £100 a day.. some thing about the bloke was just not wired right despite being a brain surgeon too. I'm not sure how such a bell end ended up in charge though, Shame as I think it was handed to him by my land lord at the time who had been an admiral who was a great guy who did a lot to make sure young people got houses in an area that was getting unaffordable due to London incomers and helped me a lot in my business too.
  13. Ms 400 is my go to saw on a 16" bar ,light yet powerful enough for most trees.
  14. Some from the last few days , willows where easily dealt with bagging an old 16mm lowering rope high up and pulling out with the chipper winch... made a change from cutting every things into little bits... Gutted though to see this on a site my father and me cleaned out all the windblow 7 years ago ... now it's just flat.
  15. Aye it was mental on Friday night, got a call from a mate who had gone to pick his kids up and now was surrounded by fallen trees, went to start the tractor and I'd left the controls for the crane on last weekend milling so the battery was flat... by the time I had got close to him after clearing god knows how many it was 1am , I was tripping Sitka off the road back in too the stump holes and trying to pull the tops back off the road with redirects with the 4x4... at this point more Sitka where falling behind me and in front as I was cutting ,then my head torch ran out so had to pull the truck closer in the path of more falling trees, he had sent me a message saying they where out of the way of falling trees but the mobile networks where down so could not contact him to check all was good , way to dangerous to go on foot , I think the wind speed would of been 100mph plus on top of the moor... had to turn back and try and find another route , all blocked with more Sitka and huge ancient sycamore and ash... had to return home to the rage of everyone who was annoyed id left in the first place and feeling totally dejected I'd left a man behind with his kids in the car... Tractor started first thing after a battery charge and out we went , I recon there was 1k plus Sitka down on the drive alone ,cut the neighbours out of there farm ... then spent the rest of the day checking sites , still a load more to check today but it's absolute devastation , I've yet to see a spruce plantation that's not been hammered and loads of beautiful ancient trees that have seen a fair few storms shattered in bits. God knows what's gonna happen on Monday when folk return to work on all the sites we survey and the damage there..
  16. [emoji38][emoji106] You would proper smash me hey Kev especially being the superior being and big man. But that would be fun wouldn't it .. bit of bloke on bloke action then we could hit the all male Bodmin brothel if your not to tired after or do you only go at people over social media as your internet history for bullying women and having to resign from positions would dictate??
  17. 1,Yep of the highest order , look at you .. You ooze utter babe in every post you make with your I've got an MBE every one else is inferior.. 2, I'll tell you what son I'll ****************ing ram your teeth so far down your throat if I have the chance to meet you now you have brought that into it.. 3, yes so what that's what all us cap doffing lower class scum do... ****************ing hilarious ... utter prick
  18. **************** yourself your smug prick... you probably are right now any way.
  19. I don't think you two have a clue , I said before this is an argument about class war which you have both proven in your above statements to prove being the smug self satisfying idiots who think you hold some moral high ground on some thing you have no understanding of , any way my partner hunts , she's from a sink hole estate in Newcastle , she hunts because she is an amazing horse woman and horses are her passion and life who other wise would not get to ride on the courses or land that you pay £40 quid a day for on a hunt meet , I know in the 6 years she has been drag hunting which is usually every Saturday she's not seen a fox killed, I'm not saying it does not happen but they don't go digging any fox that has gone to ground out so if the hounds do pick up a fox and change trails they are never likely if at all to catch it unless it's well not fit enough... it's entirely about horsemanship and riding skills to cover cross country that people go for.. obviously trigger **************** wit and mr smug babe mbe can't get there heads around this..
  20. And I'm sorry I'm going to make one more point as to why I think this is bad , well I've already made it is and that is antis are weekly getting a stronger voice and are coming for all Feild sports including my favourites such as game fishing.. if enjoying that makes you a blood thirsty sociopath babe then I'll gladly wear the I'm a babe badge with even more pride , as a wise man once told me as long as you know your a babe mat your all right.
  21. Problem is Kevin is that it is about the riding for the majority of the folk that still do it and has nothing to do with killing an animal in the way you describe as sociopathic... if I could actually ride and to the standard it would take to be able to do there point to point courses I could not think of any thing more exhilarating. I could go out tonight and shoot all the foxes on my land but what's the point.. I've no Desiree to eradicate them , I enjoy seeing them and they are territorial and will keep out others so why upset that balance, if they are weak they get pushed out then become a problem as they will kill in desperation and closer to humans. If you have a strong family of foxes they are territorial and will keep out others , a strong healthy fox will outrun dogs all day.. I have a family about 600m from my house , they leave my chickens alone , I've seen plenty of comical activity from there young playing ...any way I'm out of this if the best you have is calling me a babe and now Arb talks biggest bell ends piped up I'm out.
  22. It would not get caught , it would out run a pack of dogs all day long is the kind of point ...
  23. Come on mr MBE don't be shy and hold back , what's your real beef with hunting ? Let's get heated !
