  1. Looks like some nice colours for rob in the oak.
  2. No ones knocking any one Eddie! I appreciate any body's skill when it comes to there chosen profession.
  3. That is exactly though what we have become or are going in comparison to the tree stock we did have.
  4. I don't think we will ever see that devastation again ... Simply because we have cut a very big majority of all possible failing trees down that are on streets or around property...everything is better managed mapped and monitored .. Are industry was promoted and grown 100 times bigger as a direct result if the 87 storm and people's and insurance company's paranoia of falling trees... I'm not saying there will not be failures but I can't see it being like that at all.
  5. I would ask for 5 years experience because most climbers I have seen never amount to being actually any good at this game and it takes them 5 years to work that out... And really I don't want to waste my time as an employer ... Yes there are people who will be an exception to that rule and straight away excel but out of the 30 or so people I have worked with I can count about 3 ... I want a climber who's gonna save me days on a quote not add them on and still get the job done safely.
  6. Driving machines and being a climber who is not going to maim or injure and smash up property is Very different .. I have driven diggers, 20 excavators, timber grabs.. You get probably passable not a master within a couple of days but it is a completely different job.. It's not any where near as physically and at times mentally demanding... Yes any body can hang like a conker on a string in a harness like they can climb in the cab of a machine but very different !!
  7. You could be shown how to do it get the training and a little experience then you go up a 90ft dead Lombardy in a slight breeze and have a senses over load of fear ,sea sickness and want to curl in to a sobbing ball.. I've seen that a few times , I don't think that happens often in a digger... An experienced climber will use the wind to his full advantage whilst calmly and methodically stripping the tree always thinking one step ahead from all his previous experience understanding the holding capabilities and weight of the timber he's working on .. I believe that takes a few years to get that proficient that your all packed up by 3 instead of 6.
  8. One more there's plenty around the stem and base as well.
  9. Found on mature cherry Arb talk fungi app down.. Milk cap??
  10. Spoke to another tree guy who just priced a job up locally ... Apparently I'm too expensive!! 4 years ago I had quoted £450 and my arch rival with his stolen chipper and gear did it for £280 because apparently he had told her "he new my pricing structure"because he had worked for me... I'm almost flattered but what a lying freak.. Any way he did the hedge left rubbish every where and killed her walnut !

You would hope so .. But I don't think the average customer takes any thing in consideration like ropes ppe and probably sees it as the same from the general impression I have got over the years.
  12. I looked a while back... Nothing I'm afraid .
  13. What happens if you get a very large top or stick caught in the saw and it drags you out.. The ce certified lanyards have a breaking strain that should break before your rope or anchor point.. Besides that for pruning it sounds a good idea! I have in the past for years used 11-10 mm cord but I heard a story about the above potential fault happening and it put me off... Plus I like the metal ring on the weaver strops to hook the saw on a harness.
  14. http:// Milled this 3 years ago I will count how many slabs I have if your interested.
  15. Yeah it gets hot .. Don't most saws?? Like I said in atleast 1 540 thread it's not a 200t!!! It will handle ,sound and feel different ohh and get hot different !!
  16. What gets me about this though is the chip goes to power stations and they are putting there prices up..
  17. You should get a better price per tonne if your loading, we were getting around here £10 a tonne year or so back..I have a large pile that needs to be moved so so will be interesting ... Luckily the other farm has just muck spread 100 plus tonne on one of the site s we tip so there's no hurry to move it fast.
  18. Lol .. Have you used it much since the port job?

    t540 xp

Used it today and it's definitely getting quicker but I had spent the last two days using a ms 150 but it destroyed the 20 odd 9" beech we were felling. Feels and sounds nothing like a 200t... That will still take a lot of getting used to for some guys I recon.
  20. That one sounds as deafening as yours as well stubby!!
  21. I would rather they were nicking cables than my gear..

Same as huck ...it ain't rocket science when you get used to it... Any saw will have its Querks but we are all conditioned to the 200t and disappointed with the 201 ( well most ) I'm not disappointed with my t540 one bit !!
