  1. Is that the saw you just brought??what do you recon ???
  2. I had a 288 for a good few years happily running a 32" bar .. Against the 395 I sold it ... Just did not see the point in having it there when put against the 395 .. For what I needed it for any way ,but if your working in plantations that requires that cc I can but, the ones I did only required a 60cc saw and for the odd occasion a 70cc saw. The bigger saws were just a stop gap for tree work and the 395 proved its worth ... Of course a 3120 or 880 would be better bit in a tree they handle badly !!
  3. Not knowing much anything about the makita / dolmar I thought you would of gone for there equal ?? I don't really get 80 cc saws I'd rather carry the weight and go for a 90 or stick with a 70cc

    t540 xp

Its good .... Can't say more than that sold the main 200t and I'm not disappointed one bit.
  5. I did a run recently on both saws ported with the same bar and chain .. Ergonomically the 390 felt a better saw but it was not as fast in the cut as the 395... For the extra weight and price I would still opt for the 395 unless I had to use the 390 every day.
  6. 395 mate, can't go wrong unless you get the Friday afternoon saw.
  7. Cool tom ,I've been meaning to get my arse in there for the last 20 years lol!
  8. Snatched the top out A big old Lawson's that was rocking on its root plate in the dark and in a storm.. Luckily the house was thatched ..as I told the groundy to let the top run and like a gigantic kite it did ! In too the thatch! Turned up at an ash tree that was about 50ft leaning over a recently built garage and needed rigging ..put my spikes on and foot went through the bottom of the trunk !!there was nothing there apart from one 9 " root of a two foot stem supporting the whole tree it was a miracle it was still standing ... Rang boss up annoyed as we were presuming at this point it was a drive by quote, he came along and offered to climb it , got about 6ft and bottled it , me being stupid that was all the encouragement I needed so went up and rigged it out in very small bits! My worse and still gives me nightmares was a big Lombardy along side a private school.. It had been topped in numerous occasions but this time had been left to grow for some time.. It needed rigging as there was a green house directly under it and fence and the school drive that was in constant use.. Job had gone well and the Last stem on the tree was a biggie I had been using it as an anchor whilst the largest one at the front that I had already snatched the top off to do the rigging.. For some reason and to this day I don't know why I un clipped my lanyard and stood in the old pollard bowl about 60 ft up for taking out the last stem, my anchor point one ... Any way took it off as high as I could reach it went over but tearing off the whole front of tree taking what would of been three stems with it including what I would of stropped on too.. I looked down to see 30ft of Lombardy perfectly filling up the whole garden and about 2" from the green house and no one crushed!!. I came down shaking but atleast I didn't have to do any finishing cuts or chog the remaining timber down ! There's plenty more but I won't bore you all.
  9. Good one john I'll try and remember it ... I should know by now I've had one of either out side the front of the last two places I lived !!
  10. I always get metasequoia and taxodium swamp cypress mixed up!
  11. Yeah I would go with Salix caprea as well.
  12. Cherry josh ?? Make sure you seal the ends if it is ... I was gutted when I looked through a stack I had milled and pegged up a few months back this week ,most of it was split! Didn't think that would happen as it had been on a pile for two years so if its green it will be far worse.
  13. Foliage is massively different ! Sequoia's foliage looks Moore like well spaced yew and welly's look more like a gigantic western red cedar IMO any way .. Welly bark is more red as well
  14. Go with who is your nearest dealer tw Jensen or GM they all have there qualitys and down falls but parts are key if it goes wrong !
  15. Very well put Paul:) I agree with all the above comments except about subbing stuff out .. I would pass stuff on if people are desperate to people I trust and have the same work ethic as me but I'm not tying up more cash in other peoples wages! Besides it will go dead in December and January any way,so having it all lined up is good, if the weather behaves it self any way..
  16. I can try and remember to get some clearer pics to make it more visible if you need? But its a big hole at 8mm ! If you put that photo next to your saw it should be evident !
  17. Yes in the top left in that sort of lower middle box on the exhaust. . I had a good check over it last night and there is no damage at all to the side cover after months on of hard use from doing the mod , just for the record if any body's interested !
  18. As Stevie says ... Enjoy why you can !! Grey or bald if not both !!
  19. Problem is if your the boss and you hurt some one else and not your self with out tickets it could be the problem..
  20. As mozza says really..
  21. I've heard it also ... We used to spray young plantations without any protection and whilst recently talking to a chemist he said there are things in it that will destroy your central nervous system ... If that's true I don't know either but a friend offered to spray my allotment with glysophate and I kindly refused.
  22. Spent £35 this morning on these , the strimmer is for my ex so she stops borrowing mine ! Took it down the allotment and fitted some heavy duty cord to bash the hedge row and borders back and worked a treat .. My favourite is the elwell axe though, could do with a new shaft but the head has not been used as a sledge hammer or re sharpened so pretty mint considering age and even looks like original shaft ...still looking for a no7 !
  23. Heat up a strong piece of wire or needle and melt it to the plastic bit through the spark plug hole let it cool off and pull it out... Worked for me once when I did the same.
