  1. Lol joe , first major cock up was getting a 3120 with 42" bar sat on , ha to unbolt the power head but it bent the bar after going side ways. First trees I helped fell would of been on a winch at 13 ,first saw cutting was dead road side elms... Think I hashed the hinge up plenty with those too!
  2. Interesting reading. Why will it be used against us in a court of law ? I think of the last few occasions I've used cobra it's been on very included unions on twin stemmed trees the cables were not taught and the only reason the bracing was there was to act as a storm anchor in extreme conditions and nearly on all occasions in conjunction with a reduction.
  3. Definitely up for that You jinxed me on the midges though mark.
  4. If I'd of known that I would of stayed in bed !
  5. Nice saw I keep looking at them when they pop up on eBay thinking shall I ?? , I remember the 262 having a decomp ?
  6. I know you have championed ear plugs for years Steve but I recon if I would of stayed using them I would of torn both my ears off by now ! There is a lot of protection still offered by the outer shell.
  7. Petzl alvio here ,had a number of vertex, the old style kask and the pfanner protos and the the alvio for me is the lightest and most comfy full helmet I've worn ... Of course every one has different shaped heads though !! I hated the protos with a passion , very poor rated hearing protection and it actually gave me a head ache from its pressure points but then I have long hair and I'm told is designed for short back and sides.
  8. Yep it's Friday afternoon and ......
  9. Cheers for the heads up thought Hunicke was was never going to get around to putting part 2 together
  10. I've never seen a holm oak that bare ! Started to see plenty of evidence of leaf miner on them though.
  11. I was listening to a radio interview with him about this book the other day , it was vaguely interesting .... Can see David's concerns though!
  12. Not that I'm aware of ... Probably in keilder , I noticed the hut full of FC fire beating equipment in Wark forest got blown away in the last gales though!
  13. Keep an eye on your gaffs getting clogged up with dead bark !
  14. That pretty much sums it up the subject of fire damage to cobra to me ... And as tree quip pointed out whilst your house and every thing else around you is turning to charcoal the cobra bracing catching fire really is not a concern! Marks points are very valid the only thing maybe to worry about would be rodent damage to cobra but I've never seen that happen on any of the trees I've installed it on and some where in areas infested with tree rats, is there any reported cases of this happening ever ?
  15. Me neither joe , but in all seriousness why wear something not how it was designed to be used ?there are so many harnesses out there now the choice is unbelievable , back when in the day when there was virtually zero choice and the only harnesses available compressed and your kidneys so bad they made you pish blood if you did lots of saddle time and vigorous climbing I absolutely love the fact my tree motion hangs off my hips.
  16. Yes timon, you are... The unwritten rule of the trees about wearing your TM up to your elbows... It's pretty serious
  17. Krpan winches are great value and power , hydraulic feed and remotes may put it out of budget but you won't beat them on price on a standard unit.
  18. Possible mate .... Dry weather and last years grass and lots of half defoliated Sitka...
  19. They break in Greg, mine was a bit moody but it's fine after some good hard work clear felling.
  20. Incredible footage .. Hope every one gets out safe.
  21. Just my opinion but oak does not react well with steel bracing hence why you see a lot of pulled steel cables in oak.
  22. What happened to charterhouse Richmonds ? they were the last supplier I used for steel bracing.... Buxtons has a few bits maybe give them a call and see if they have more not listed on there site.
