  1. have a look at this http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/afag606.pdf then think about a Ground services scanner C.A.T + also some sort of screen Or deflection board as breakages can out way the job http://www.arbtalk.co.uk/showthread.php?t=334 We do our own stumps as mainly we got ripped by an outsider who we used before for any stumps who promised to not try nicking our tree clients ( scum ) we have a mobile pedestrian stumpy with hyd drive & a meaty kohler engine
  2. edelrid xperience is 12mm & nod aint the only one who sells it !! a damn nice bloke tho' Steve lives on Nods stands during trade shows Gear Junky Lol
  3. bacterium associated with this I believe to be Pseudomonas syringae As nutty arb said
  4. rigid metal frame & plastic tripod not the folding tho' Metal frame + add a numberplate with ' tree work ' strapped under it keeps the cost down

  6. the terminal kids 1st thats got to be tuff for any parent i'm sure some comfort can be sort if the can see their child happy
  7. never occasionally I put on a work fleece jacket if its sharp up there I have no intention of putting a running chain anywhere near my skin ,therefore i dont wear protective sleeves
  8. time is not the factor , variety of relevant technical application - is ie if removing a tree in a enclosed tight garden do we only think wether a split level or dogs tooth cut does it really bloody matter, if when the tree is dropped it goes through the 12k conservatory . NOT really all, we should think about imo ,or do we stick a pulling rope up there and assist the direction of the fell , should we just worry about escape route or maybe look at mioving the chinese vase planters that cost 200 quid each when sectionally dismantling do we only think outboard cut - hinged limb removal & blast it all down & make an almighty mess on the floor, for the groundies to sort ! or do we think about the job as a team so the climber doesnt get a couple of black eyes ! I cant remember the last time I used a felling lever pulling ropes, a winch, a 4*4, wedges, 'yes' to all, but a felling bar 'No' A relevant Practical application of technique , !!!!!! imo
  9. try ringing 'train to gain' the numbers on the tv ads
  10. telhol do you use a top handled chainsaw ? experience cant be obtained from any college course however they do give you the knowledge with which you gain experience no body can be taught past the point of their own ability or aptitude. Natural ability & common sense are a blessing in everything we do, along with a decent portion of good luck coupled with a willingness to go home at the end of each day in the same shape as you started it personally I did my climbing tickets 2 years after I started climbing ( I was self employed & didnt subby climb,or use a TH saw so it was never an issue ) the exams didnt make me a good climber, however they did prove that I was a competent one. independantly of my own opinion. its always nice to get a pat on the back, as Steve says it is human nature & the arrogance/self assurance of us climbers that we all look down (figuratively & actually) on those who arent You dont need to do a course, ring your nptc area organisor & book an exam, then do the exam & join the climbers club. rgds Iain

  14. not that much cop here either !!
  15. people hate spending money on remedial pruning or maintenance , but if its aTD then it seems okay to charge good money not sure if its the volume that impress's them, opposed to a well worked tree which is weird cos TD's are usually easier, well for the climber anyway! I have found that with private customers, those who have a new big posh house & 2 bmw's on the drive, are the ones least able to afford work , I was once asked if they could pay on the visa card !!!! dont suppose they would have wanted it back if my groundie had swiped it thro' his butt cheeks LOL As for who pays best ie profit well thats down to supply & demand those organisations who have alot of work dont usually want to pay a great deal per indivdual task but the total can tot up ask tilhill & glendale
