  1. 192T is what it is, a light pruning saw. Stihl fit a 1.1mm bar and chain for a reason. Going to 1.3mm will add nearly 20% to what the saw has to do. Yes I use mine on dismatles etc, but as soon as it gets to its limit it is down and a saw fit for the job back up in its place makeing things easier and safer. 192T IMO is a great little saw, but it is not a 200T.
  2. My site is shi te, wrote it ages ago and have not got round to updating it yet. One good bit of advice i was given is that slow load times can put some people off - they just want to get to the info they have gone there for. Give two options on your home page - flash and none flash. Like i said mine is not good but I will just tart it up a bit as it is then add a flash version. (If you dont want your identity to be known then dont have a bloody web site )
  3. Got a couple of jonesey at saltex last year. IMO very good, clip in my 192 all the time, dont use for bigger saws. Also never found much prob with snagging but that may be because if I get my small 'frame' past a limb there aint much chance of something the size of a caritool gettin caught
  4. Just got the study guide and cd combo, £75 posted (members price - about £5 off or something like that). As far as books go, how much money you got? (there are some good threads re books on the site) Try to buy books you need as you can afford them. Mattheck, Shigo, TSO publications and Collins Tree Guide will be good starting points IMO.
  5. These lot keep a good selection http://www.summerfieldbooks.com/

  8. To me the forum is a great source of info and learning from others is an invaluable resource. IMO people should put more in their profile with relation to experience/business standing but this does not have to be specific personal info (perhaps part of the registration process?) that can be updated when applicable in their profile. The danger with the bullshit factor to me is greater for those with less experience. These are the people that the site should be encouraging, but they may have difficulty deciphering the bull from the truth with consequences that do not bear thinking about. This is where moderators should step in – any exaggerated posts with interpretation that could lead either directly or indirectly to safety related issues. That’s my 5p worth, ill shut up now.
  9. When I did my chipper training a while back that question popped up re the Timberwolf tracked machines. Cant remember exactly but its something to do with regs re carrying a person, or so I was told.
  10. Spoke to David Lloyd Jones this afternoon. If any of you are thinking about doing any of the courses on offer get your names in pdq or miss out. I did the TPO one last year (withe Pete McT and Iain (Yorkshireman)) and can really recomend it. I was wanting to do one of the others on offer but its just not poss at the moment. For info; CAS have two new workshops they are working on - Auto-CAD and Expert Witness. Richard.
  11. Thanks for the offer. I want to go but have thought about it for the last couple of hrs and at the moment I cant justify it (mother in hospital, getting the business going etc, etc) Will def be going to at least the apf so hope to catch up with you there if not before
  12. Tony, Dont know if these help. Previously 'topped' laylandii that I took down. The regrowth is not really done justice by the photoes!
  13. Obvious to those who have read more than half a dozen pages of his books. My point is that it is being maintained. I imagine its demise will follow that of its owner, therefore keep it as he is doing or let it re-grow from those branch unions?
  14. Didn’t Shigo (who would not entertain 'topping') say the only way to maintain a pollard tree was to implement a high coppicing policy? Is that not what the old man has done? How it looks – or how an individual interprets its looks – is irrelevant. The tree obviously has a high value to its owner; it is being maintained and is safe.

  16. (when i stop pissin about on arbtalk! - 2 months to go, 9 out of 10 lessons to go ) IMO everone on here will still be studying, nobody knows it all (esp those who think tey do) and the forum is a great place for picking up on other peoples experiance, lessons learnt, etc, etc. Therefore we are all studying by being here (thats what I tell the wife )

  19. I looking for a fungi ID book (and it would help if it tells you how to bloody pronounce them!) Diag of Ill Health is good but i could do with a more specific book. I have some ideas but any recomendations would be appreciated Thanks Richard. (sorry about putting my name but in getting fn sick of being called eden )
  20. (yes I like them!)
  21. Good stuff (Nice to see you have the same problem with your visor that I have )
  22. Saws go for stupid money on ebay to untrained operators. Stopping this 'black market' will not solve the problems but can only help. Everyone here will I think agree that a t is dangerous on the ground. I bet the majority that are sold on ebay are either used on the ground or standing on a ladder. The same applies to the climbing gear that is sold, i bet the majority of which goes to 'have a go' idiots
  23. Sometimes wonder if I sold the right one (well at least once a month )
