  2. Think you will get that OK. Get some proper training, then start to get some experiance. Put it this way, if you went on an assesment now you would fail before you even get to start a saw or put a roap into a tree on safety alone How do u get insurance without certs?
  3. Got this on my mob, keeps getting better every time

  6. (although not what I would have done, then again it is the mother in law ) I would be more bothered about the one in the background on the last photo.
  7. vduben I can tell u from experience that it is almost certainly not your lower back but my semi educated guess is that it could well be a problem with the shoulder/neck area of your spine - getting a load of hammer with climbing. Not trying to scare u bit get it properly diagnosed. I went to a chiropractor at your age with a bad back. Three ops and 20 years later and I’m just starting to get back to normal. By the time I went through an MRI scan the damage had been done and it was too late. As my surgeon said “no chiropractor has, to my knowledge, developed MRI vision!” Hope it all works out OK, take it easy and climb with your body in mind – not speed!
  8. Im in predicament re grinder. Looking at how to add to range of services I can provide (cost effectivly). 3 out of the last four jobs asked if I could also grind the stump and had someone knock on the door and ask if I could do one. All would need narrow access. At the same time might not be asked to do another for 6 months!
  9. Not the same thing but the wife baught a watch last year. To cut a long storey short she got money back through ebay and the seller was stuck off. Keep all transactions (ack of sale/emails/etc), notify ebay what has happened (with your proof) and see what happens. If they sell a lot of stuff it may at least give u some satisfaction by giving them some serious **** to deal with. Fook'n hate ebay wonkers . Something too good to be true usually is.
  10. A really good day. Brought home how little knowledge I had and how much you should have! If you get chance to go to one then go – simple as that!
  11. If I make a decent plan I get a £1K grant for fa
  12. At the end of the day I just use 16 and adjust accordingly!
  13. http://www.treemettlenexus.com/pdfs/rules_%20for_riggers.pdf Pick the bones out of this and it should help you decide!
  14. Always got to be that bit bigger! My last one was 8 feet so the customer could nail a fence panel to it. They had forgotten what daylight was and where overwhelmed to the point of needing to reduce it. As far as cuts a couple of years ago no advanced stuff, there was a good range of cuts for diff situations. A lot was accuracy of cuts and how to deal safely with hung trees. Shallow cuts were encouraged with relation to buttresses. ie counting the buttress as part of the cut diam. as opp toremoving them first then putting in a gob (25%) with gob hight according to uphill/downhill etc.
  15. To care is a good thing. If we do not care we (or our children) will have no future to care about. There is more to life than creating a tree stump. This unfortunately now seems to be the public perception of a Tree Surgeon, roll on Arboriculture and public education.
  16. Thanks Iain, Just printed the email for Friday - plenty to read if I cant sleep over the next few nights!
  17. I have to put together a business plan after recently completing some training. Obviously I have some ideas of my own but would appriciate some experinced advice/input on a couple of things. 1. What/when and how much? - basically what type of work you get in, when you get it and busy/quiet times of the year. 2. Views on progression? - if you cant work all the time climbing what do you think would provide cost effective income (set againt capital expenditure). eg grinding/logs/planting/etc. Any input would be appreciated Thanx, Richard.
  18. Work/:pcguru: related! http://www.stihlusa.com/information/info_screensavers.html Even the wife likes the text one - not sure about the chopper

  20. The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense. Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.

  24. Glad you asked! been on my mind a day!
  25. Hard one To my way of thinking it is imposible to put times on a day basis. If am an hr of finishing a job and my groundy pisses off he would not be back the next day. On the other hand if we are finished I would be happy for him to go early while I do some paperwork (piss about on arbtalk ). Im only pt at the moment so it is easier for me. If I was to employ someone full time I would ask them to work flexible hrs (within reason) up to 40 hrs/week with a specified start time, thereafter mutually agreed o/t.
