  1. The wife - 'Don't argue cos you know im allways right!' 'You dont have to live with him!' 'What are you doing on that site again, sad get!'
  2. Steve It does sound like the vt has more advantages. Hopefully if things keep going well and I go full time I will be able to optimise things ps its Richard/Dick/Scratcher or Dick Scratcher! Used to have a customer called Eden - she was a woman :boobies:
  3. Standard pruss im affraid. I was taught using single roap (bowline etc) and two side strops 25 yrs ago. Would like to do more eg vt but at the moment find it hard getting the time to mess about (only climbing at weekends so need to get in and finished as priority). Its good to read the set ups you lot use, when I get time I will start to have a play about.
  4. Most important thing I try to keep on my harness is me Mostly same as above + silky + small swing cheek pulley to use with sling/krab to make it easier for groundie to get saw etc up/down
  5. I have the scars from over 80 staples in my back, the result of 3 spine ops. Can climb day in day out (at my own pace) without any problems. Spend a day on the ground and im knackered. IMO (and my backs) ground work is far higher risk than climbing. You must appreciate and uderstand how to lift/drag etc in a way so as not to shag your body today, tomorrow or in ten years time. My back problems were not caused directly by lifting etc. I hope none of you ever have to go through the same as me. Learn how to do things properly within the limits of your body, dont be an :asshole2: , it will come back to bite.
  6. I normally sit and have a fag up the tree while the groundy catches up My groundie can now also get a cup of tea up the tree to me in one of those steel mug things Dont stop up the tree to get away from the ground work, it just takes me that long to get back up the f****r again
  7. How many customers know that?
  8. Educate the customer? When do you see HSE etc spending money and time to educate the customer? How many private customers do you know that could identify with NPTC CS41 or even tell the differance between forestry/lanscaping/arb insurance? We now have duty of care - there should also be duty on the customer to employ competent contractors, but that will never happen, not that it is thier fault.
  9. Joust a couple of thoughts/observations. 25 years ago there was not as many of us climbing trees properly (or tying to) and there was therefore less competition and pressure. Now you know you are pricing against your competitors, therefore it gets priced for the time etc you estimate it will take, you are pricing to do the job in a given time. If you priced to complete a job in a day are you going to repostion for every cut and go into a second day and postpone that days work? Likewise there are a lot of climbers employed etc who will get at least a if they dont finish the job on time so will therefore do what they need to get finished. Therefore the point is how many would be happy to go by the book if they were rewarded for doing it as opposed to potentially being penalised? For the record I dont normally use a 'T' cos I aint got round to buying one yet, but when I have used them I am no different to the majority
  10. Everyone has got one they should share! My current fave is good for summing up clients that think you are going hang about on a roap with a chainsaw in you hand (oop's hands) for nowt when you give them an estimate for the job: 'Had a face like a bulldog licking piss of a nettle'
  11. Much better to watch some ald punks that have still say it as they see it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aettcRoW8uQ
  12. Would rather be at the sharp end than on the shite end. Think the point is that a climber should not make it harder for the groundies than he has to. Your part of a team and if you p-off one part of that team then it will never work well together
  13. Sh1te. Took the weekend off. Still suffering from concussion from 10 days ago (another storey but I’m not gonna tell yah) Put some mud flaps on me pickup and priced a 99 bloody page tree survey – didn’t do much for me head
  14. A good climber should put safety and an understanding of what/why they are doing something ahead of how quickly they can do it.

    ArbDogs? Pics!

Ben waiting for the next drive last season
  16. Re CS40/41 thread. You will get taught how to and prob have to do a cradle with a single roap to pass assessment on 41.
  17. Penrith for my sins:sleep:
  18. Average min £200 for me/equipment + £125 ish/person. Depends on job, can be more or (a little) less. Found that small jobs often trip me up so have now put a min charge of £125 on anything (within reason).
  19. See that 'pruning saw' doing OK then:151:
  20. Love my TW 13/75:withstupid: Stick it on the trailer and it will turn in any direction you want Saving for my Schliesing, just about got enough to pay for a glow plug:151: Being serious, this is the only type of machine that I think there is a place for with a petrol engine. When I do upgrade the 13/75 will def not be px'ed, too bloody usefull in back gardens
  21. Tell her about cat safe bird box's and that a trees CO2 conversion is more efficeient in the early part of its life. So if she has it felled due to its condition, replants with 2 or 3 (sutalbe) trees and puts a bird box up she will be doing her bit to combat global warming and create wildlife habitat Its worked for me in the past
  22. 240 soddin mile:cussing: Anyone in this trade do anything north of bloody Birmingham
  23. Hope you managed to get a high coppicing contract out of them for years to come!!
  24. Prob certified to use saw but just have not done CS40:hahaha: (only joking:damnmate:)
