  1. I think the chainsaw protective sock idea is excellent, as it would enable a wider choice of boots, without having to worry about chainsaw protection.
  2. Hi J, welcome to the forum. Plenty of forestry chat here. I'm a dyed in the wool Husky man myself, and have used a 372 and 385 for buttresing work on big hardwoods. I have to say though, the Dolmar (makita) 7900 is an awsomely good saw. The yanks have been using them for the past 2 years, and the reports are excellent. My next big saw will be a 7900, although I'm hoping to get an Orange Dolmar version from the US...
  3. Yup, the 90xp bandit is a mean chipper. Something wrong with that one Thurkers.
  4. When dried, burns like enriched plutonium.... huge calorific value. However, it can have the habit of 'spitting' except the spit is like a rimfire rifle going off...
  5. Yup. sounds like the pump is burnt out. Works fine when the oil is cold and thick, but as it gets warm, the oil gets thinner and it slips through the worn pump. Running it faster just excaserbates the problem. You will need to flush the system through as it will now be full of the disintegrated internals of your pump..
  6. what are you running it off?
  7. This was the first time we used one, the skidsteer is a little slow in the vid, as I got off to film. Some of the old members here have seen some of the extreme pics of us using this, they will go ANYWHERE without leaving a mark. we even built a bridge for it to cross a river with just lengths of willow. 8. The Caparo T1 is now quite capable of driving over a speed bump.
  9. is it? I always seem to go 'over the top' to get to huddersfield. Dave's got a good idea though.
  10. Hmm. Given that huddersfield is the other side of the penines, and closer to the east coast, lets not.
  11. Well its virtually halfway between me and thee for a start.
  12. How about Chester? it would be about central?
  13. OK, you've convinced me, I'll buy a veyron. However, on your claim that the board has 10 - 15 ultima's, lets not forget that the ultima chopped 4 seconds out of the record, and 5 seconds on the veyron...
  14. not really. Here's what I do - Take 4 ig onions and cut them up fine. Put into a large pan pre heated with hot oil. brown off onions in oil. Add 2 litres of good quality beef stock, I sometimes make my own after a good beef roast, chuck in a it of oxo if needed. Add a glass of red wine, a tablespoon of good wholegrain djon mustard, worcester sauce, plenty of pepper (I prefer white) and some salt. simmer gently for as long as needed - with me its usually 1/2 hour or so. Cut some french bread into slices and toast with some nice cheese on top, serve soup with toast floating on top with extras to dip in. Bon apetit!
  15. If its smooth as silk you want, buy a Bentley continental. For what the Veyron costs, I could buy a continental AND an Ultima for about a quarter of the Bugatti. So the Veyron was smoth at speed - does'nt change the fact that its heavy and over complex. And if any old manufacturer could build the ultima, why dont they?
  16. I wonder where the expression 'practical joke' comes from? Most of what I've read has very little of the practical about it... Must say I'm not a big fan of practical jokes, as its so easy to cross the line between fun and cruelty.
  17. I hear you... but the Ultima GTR is not a race car, it is a road going speed bump missing comfy soundproofed Le Mans GT inspired road car. What does the Veyron do that the Ultima does'nt?
  18. But a tonne of what? mainly over complicated engine and 4 wheel drive. It has a composite carbonfibre shell (I think), so why so much heavier, if ultimately its so much slower?
  19. Hmm, have to disagree with you on a few points - 1. the Ultima has leather seats, full wilton carpets, aircon, posh hifi, the works. its also giving away nearly 300 hp to the veyron. 2. according to Clarkson, that track is supposed to be biased towards big power cars. 3.VW will not allow the veyron to race, as it says in the manual that if its run at full power, it needs to stop every 2 hours to cool down. I think the Veyron is a fantastic technical exercise, but way to complicated. 4 banks of 4 cylinders? 64 valves? 8 cams? W16 quad turbo? way to much. The Ultima uses an old fashioned Chevy V8, single cam pushrod engine...
  20. Anybody see Top gear? The stig finally got his hands on the veyron, and despite it having 1000bhp, it could ony post 5th fastest time on the power lap board, with a time of 1.184. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd9VHkLjq5Q[/ame] So, not only is it hidiously ugly, its slow aswell. Nice one VW:001_smile: - especially as it costs VW over £1.1 million to build one:ohmy: Now what really makes me laugh, is that a small british car builder, Ultima, can sell you a car for under £50k, the Ultima GTR 720... That will do the same lap in 1.12! check it out - [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAoT427ft1A[/ame] Anybody else a piston head?
  21. Too right. I remember getting a good hiding from my woodwork teacher for mucking about. He had a large beard, a combover and a very stinky pipe.
  22. Remember the original nozzles were black? We have an old jonsered combi can thats about 30 years old, red with yellow nozzles...
  23. I LOVE the husky cans, as I remember Dad buying one of the first ones in the country, and we continued to use them for years. Bought a stihl can one day as I needed one in a hurry. Never bought another Husky one again. Still feel very nostalgic when I see the nice rounded orange can with the cute green fillers.
  24. Phwoar. 4-5 tonnes of green wood is over 12000kwh.... Reckon your loosing a lot of that heat Dave... I will site mine in one of my outbuildings, I'm looking at a 150kw model, but will also heat my workshop and office.
  25. There's plenty of large scale woodchip boilers on the market, google Binder or Vetomat. I want a boiler that will slowly burn 4 ft long whole logs and cord wood, along with sweepings and rakings. If your estate wants to sell their chip, talk to Matt (Buzz) on here.
