  1. Nice... But expensive:ohmy:
  2. That Jason, He's a popular guy...
  3. And then you end up hating it:001_tongue:
  4. I'd always back an old mans technique, experience and cunning over youthfull exuburance.
  5. hands off cocks, on with socks! I know what you mean. I spent a lot of time in the office in 2007. I started to get lots of aches and pains. This year I've een climbing hard, and the aches have gone away. I personally believe climbing is a very healthy occupation. My father started climbing when he was 30. he was still climbing commercially till he was 55 and able to climb and dismantle a tree this year, and he's 68.
  6. It must be a tighter weave, as I put the calipers on it to compare it to the XTC fire, and its def. a touch narrower.
  7. Probably. The company we work for dont live in the real world, and would probably make it a requirement if they thought of it.
  8. But how long you been doing it Dean?
  9. No spec needed, they just need to be 'chainsaw gloves'. We dont have to use them for climbing, do have to wear them for any ground work. Need to find some more info.
  10. yeeers... but apart from that? Thing is Nick, you or I could walk into nearly any Arb job tomorrow on the basis of our experience, ability and knowledge. When you start out, you have none of those.
  11. Sorry, My post came a little harsh. What I meant by was this - This is an industry that is based mostly on disposable income, and is going to see a very rapid shrinkage. Its poorly paid, dangerous and needs a high level of both financial and time investment before you can be 'employable'. Why anybody would pin their hopes on a job in it, I really cant tell. I see it a bit like someone training to be a coal miner in the '80's
  12. Thats the ones I was wondering about - anybody got any more info?
  13. I dont struggle to justify them Bob, its a contract requirement. Personaly, I like the nice snug suedey type gloves I buy at the local toolshop, but they are not good enough. We are also required to use the heavy welding gauntlets if we handle or climb any kind of thorn
  14. Unfortunately, yes. If we are audited and caught without them, we get sent home. So if we have to use them, I want the nicest.
  15. I really like the XTC scorch, seems to be a 12mm rope, not sure if its meant to be slightly thinner and tighter than 'ordinary' XTC, but it seems really nice to use.
  16. Anybody got any ideas? are the timberland ones the best, or are the new Husky ones any good?
  17. Paradise - in word - DONT. Why would anybody want to get into this industry anyway? I keep seeing posts like this and it baffles me.
  18. Wheres your sense of schadenfrued? The idea of someone burning their house down because of their cheapskate buying of green wood is hilarious.
  19. Bah Humbug.
  20. Yes mate, back on the tools full time, feels good. Not really done much with the chippers, requires more investment than I can currently give it. Got 'your' grinder sat ready and waiting ;)

  21. There has to be a difference between a contract climber with his own gear coming in when you need him, to guys working 5 days a week on a week in / out basis. My guys are on £80 per day whether they do a big climb, polesaw a few bits of epicormic, feed the chipper or even sit in the landrover waiting for a shutdown. Sometimes they finish at 2.30, sometimes at 6.00. I would like to pay a bit more, but our contract rates are very tight, and the guys are happy knowing they get £400 a week whatever happens.
  22. Took the words out of my mouth Deano. Reckon Reg has another calling.
  23. Really guys... Its not big or clever to pull video's off youtube and rubbish them. Who cares what these people do? The regulations in different parts of the world are very diverse when it comes to PPE - those guys are based in Florida, where even a hard hat is not compulsory. To be honest, I thought he did well for an amatuer, give him some proper training and he would probably make a very good climber.
  24. And Calzaghi is nigh on unbeatable...
  25. I luv boxing. Missed that one though. I hate the way I have to pay Sky for great bouts.
