  1. What sort of capacity is yours Dave, and how often do you load it? Do you have a buffer tank to go with it?
  2. anybody had experience of them? I know Dave (skyhuck) has one, I'd be interested to hear any feedback on them. I was going to fit a woodchip system, but the cost is just astronomical, and I have tonnes of waste timber. Looking at getting a Farm 2000 boiler.
  3. I like to make french onion soup, made with good beef stock and served with cheesy croutons.
  4. Tree Nightmares? Like when you get up out of bed but the stairs have turned to jelly, and you try to drive the truck to work whilst sitting in the tipper bed and reaching the steering wheel through the back window, except it wont steer where you want and decides to fly to the job of its own accord, and you forgot to put the chainsaws in but not to worry, they tied themselves to the back of the truck on their own. so you try to do the job but the trees have huge teeth, and chase me down the street, only for me to realize I've gone to work without putting any clothes on, so I have to try and cover myself, which I usually do by pulling up the edge of the tarmac road and sliding under, but then the tarmac wraps round me a bit tight and then theres a loud beeping in my ear. At which point I realise its 6.00 am and time to get up and go to work.
  5. Its manufacturing economy. It will have relatively low sales, and a fairly high manufacturing cost. It probably costs £20k to build.
  6. no mate, still got it.

  7. I agree. Over the last 15 years, there has been a lack of emphasis on SUSTAINABLE business, in favour of 'growth'. Far better to be small and profitable than big and unsustainable.
  8. I would lay a LARGE bet that the tracked dumper would outperform the Alstor on any ground...
  9. Steve, the Iveco 270 will give you between 10 an 13 mpg. I used to get 9mpg out of my 320 fl10 volvo. Standard paylod on a 6x4 is 16 tonnes, take 2 tonne off for crane, 1t off for hooklift eqp. and a ton for the body.
  10. If I had to utilise a small forwarder... I would buy a 4 or 5 tonne Yanmar tracked dumper, fit a small crane / grapple and some timber bunks. All up cost of less than £7K, unbelievably terrain ability, awsomely manouverable and very reliable.
  11. David, your hookilft trailer looks fantastic! Welcome to Arbtalk...
  12. Dont knock the Iveco Steve, the 270 is one of the best 6x4's out there. The Daf 75-270 is good, but the scania is overated. FM290 volvo is great but very pricey. When you compare the truck to the Unimog on spec, I'll happily put white diesel in all day. Can you imagine the chassis bracing you'd need on a mog to mount a 14t crane? I think its a brilliant trade. The only reason I'd jump up to an 8x4 myself, is because my excavator weighs 15 tonnes, and would be too much for a 6x4 hooklift. But you loose on the turning circle you get with a 6x4.
  13. Harsh. My guys do that all the time Give him another chance, we all make stupid mistakes....
  14. Hmm. hard to choose - Belfast shopping centre being blown to hell 3 minutes after mother pushed me in the pram round the corner? Warrenpoint cafe being blown up killing 7 an hour after we left? The British Army finding an IRA weapons cache behind our forestry commision cottage in Rostrevor, Armagh? Northern Ireland in the '70s had many moments of adrenaline Buzz. Good job you dont appreciate the seriousness of the situations when your a kid.
  15. Especially since I lost my 6x4 FH12 380 Volvo with 18 tonne crane to my bastard ex business partner... Very nice truck that Iveco. Probably about the best rig you could get for heavy treework. You should still have a payload of around 12 tonnes. I love double drive trucks bet you never miss your unimog now you have a 'proper' truck
  16. I need to get a proper screen. Been using a wall for 3 years I too watched the new Indiana Jones film 2 nights ago. It was like eating MacDonalds food. Highly enjoyable but you know its crap really...
  17. [ame] [/ame]
  18. Same here. No dimming room lights, but I do have 7 channel surround sound with a 'proper' hifi to drive them. Dontcha just love home cinema?!
  19. I'm a Yale man myself, my first XTC lines I imported direct from Yale in the USA. Those lines are still in good condition 12 years on... Agree with Matty on the scorch seemingly even better than the ordinary XTC. Marlow Gecko? I buy it as short lines for the lads, but hate it myself, very nasty as a long line.
  20. Google image Hooklift Bob. Woodplans, didnt affect my insurance atall. If you use it for demolition waste you will pay high premiums. Steer clear of the cablelift systems, there pants.
  21. I've had 6.5, 7.5 and 18 tonne hooklifts. IMO its the ultimate type of truck, gives you amazing flexibility. On a 6.5 tonner, I was loosing 200kgs payload with a HL5 hooklift.
  22. It was just before dawn One miserable morning in black 'forty four. When the forward commander Was told to sit tight When he asked that his men be withdrawn. And the Generals gave thanks As the other ranks held back The enemy tanks for a while. And the Anzio bridgehead Was held for the price Of a few hundred ordinary lives. And kind old King George Sent Mother a note When he heard that father was gone. It was, I recall, In the form of a scroll, With gold leaf and all. And I found it one day In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away. And my eyes still grow damp to remember His Majesty signed With his own rubber stamp. It was dark all around. There was frost in the ground When the tigers broke free. And no one survived From the Royal Fusiliers Company C. They were all left behind, Most of them dead, The rest of them dying. And that's how the High Command Took my daddy from me.
  23. Maybe, but tree surgery arisings are not classified as virgin timber. That classification is for forestry produce.
  24. I prefered the 1454 to the 1884. The 1884 was just too big...
  25. I always liked my '89 Massey 3680. Brilliant simple tractor. That and my old 1184TW County.
