  1. NFU here too. Most excellent company to deal with. As for RSA, they are true arseholes. I had an old couple claim that a piece of scrap metal fell off my chip truck and damaged their car. It was a brand new Iveco truck, no way it came off my truck, and this was confirmed by the plod that pulled me. They were insured with RSA, and they took legal action over the damage - the bill for which came to £28... Had to pay a solicitor to fight it, and it probably cost RSA about £600 in legal fees. Idiots. What I do remember is their extremely belligerent attitude.
  2. What chipper do you have?
  3. Better to run a PTO shaft underneath your trailer and fit the chipper to the rear of your trailer.
  4. Excedingly difficult. Have'nt time to explain, suffice to say it would be cheaper to buy a turntable pto chipper from scratch than to convert one.
  5. I've moved away from the construction industry and back to powerline work. Although quite a lot of our work was for local authority, and its them thats canceling works...
  6. Over £90K of clearance work cancelled in the last 4 months for us. But we've diversified slightly, and things are working out well. I will be looking to hire another 4 climbers in the new year.

    My new toy.

That's what caught the company out. They had a chipper on the 3PL, and a box full of woodchips from the job they had just done. HMRC classed it as carrying goods for reward. I ran my unimog on red, but I only had a tiny rear body on it with chainsaws and fuel cans etc. I used it for getting a chipper into remote difficult sites for line clearance. I never used it to haul a load, as I had 'proper' trucks for that.

I know of a company that were sucssesfully prosecuted by HMRC for running unimogs on red diesel. If you want details PM me.
  9. Gosh, what an unruly looking bunch. Glad they dont work for me!
  10. Yup. Chronic Kidney disease has certainly slowed me down and fattened me up.
  11. Scary is a title I can live with. git'r'done is my motto! [ame]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4754877700686320081&ei=p58kSbuRIKf22gKj1LX8Bg&q=speedline[/ame]
  12. Interlocking rollers make no difference whatsoever. And I'm not biased, I own a 528 Jensen.

    My new toy.

wonder if it will bankrupt a fifth owner?
  14. Just to clarify, there are far faster and better climbers than me out there. I'm a very 'average' climber, but have had a bit of experience and a lifetime of cunning...
  15. I love Futurama. Love the Bing Bong theme music.
  16. Cutting a limb and letting it tear, then cutting through on the back swing so it somersaults to land the opposite direction. Usually works well when chunking back a big limb. Taking a ginormous top out so you can get away with just dropping the stem afterwards. streching a speedline off th tracked chipper using the tracked chipper to yank off a giant top Felling trees into really tight spots to avoid having to dismantle them cutting two V's in the top of a stem as an anchor point to drop down...
  17. Its a shame. Bloke comes on looking for a solution to a small problem with his domestic firewood saw, and all we do is take the piss. Ryobi or even mculloch is fine for weekend firewood use, and as proffesionals we have a mine of helpfull info we could give. Telling him his saw is crap and buy another is NOT helpfull advice. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
  18. Its an old charter or tradition or something...
  19. Looks like good efficient work to me.
  20. From Dodgeball... 'Your as much use as a cock flavoured lollipop..'
  21. I know Graham at ALG finance will be more than happy to do you a lease deal. I would go the tractor rather than Unimog route, the road speed difference is negligable, they are better off road and tow heavy weights much better, you will get more for your money with a tractor than a mog. As for tractors, the technical ability of the Fendt is fantastic, the downside is the repair bills when they go wrong - and running a flail is a quick way of finding any gremlins in a transmission. Fastrac is probably not as good as fendt but dealer support is great and parts are cheap(ish). I personally like the fastrac for arb type work.
  22. I had a U1700 that I ran at over 210hp without any driveline or cooling problems.
  23. I know where there is a 2003 Fastrac 3220 in immaculate condition going for a song, or at least several thousand below bottom book Value. My mate owns a finance company and has repossesed one.
  24. Yes, but its not classed as murder to shoot a burglar dead in your property.
  25. Hide them?! I leave them on a gibbet as a warning to other thieving scum...
