  2. whereabouts in manchester? I have a mate looking for some work.
  3. Never come across it in Ponticum, but theres is a lot in laurel. You can smell the almonds scent when you chip it. If its allowed to offgas in a pile for a few weeks, it will be fine to mix in with the rest of teh chip.
  4. Mr Ed

    poplar

It is classed as Hardwood. Burns well, good heat, but must be split and dried properly. If you look under the drying billets thread, you can see some beautifully split and stacked poplar billets from Davetaz.
  5. Yes, seen that one . Pretty col the way they skylined in 3 20 tonne crawlers. Thanks for the change Steve.
  6. I have been very skeptical of that machine, but that looks like an impresive load of sawlogs for such a diddy thing.
  7. This is a great read - http://www.treemagineers.com/downloads/hitch_climbers_guide.pdf
  8. ALways gone behind the undercut myself, for exactly the reason stated. I remember when I was 18 watching a husky 242 smashed to bits on a road 50ft below after the kerf on the branch I was cutting yanked it off me and broke my sawstrop.
  9. I think I'm suffering from PMT. I'm getting all touchy and sensitive.
  10. These comments seem to be in response to my post. 1. Steve -the names you know will not lend in this economic climate. The man has already been turned down and needs another solution. 2. I am slightly offended at the insinuation that I might recomend a loan shark or somebody dodgy. I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of borrowing off family, even if you have to pay them interest. However, if he has no other sources, a friend of mine owns this company - ALG Finance Ltd- Asset Finance They are a bona fide finance company who have their own book and broker for 3 of the biggest lenders in the UK.
  11. Steve, would you mind changing the title of this thread to SKYLINE TIMBER AND TREE EXTRACTION? There is precious little info about this kind of thing on the net, and arbtalk gets excellent search results on Google.
  12. Anybody interested in skylining might want to take a look at this thread - http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/8363-lakes-job.html
  13. I have a mate who would buy it off you in slabs Tommer. This is some of his work http://tim-atkinson.co.uk/index.html
  14. Thought so Nice thought though...
  15. How do you think it would have managed at Foulshaw matt?
  16. £28k I was quoted. So I bought an OSA 250 instead
  17. Call me tomorrow 07969 960 450. I have a friend that runs great little private finance company that would certainly look at the deal. Just dont expect to get a good (read cheap) deal on finance right now.
  18. Nice work Dean. I always likes a tight fit. Reckon my crane would have got it in one
  19. nice one mate. My biggest complaint about the alstor is the shocking price.
  20. Not really mate. getting rarer and rarer, bit like County's and MBtracs...
  21. I see you got a decent one in the end then?
  22. I would hardly say he 'slams' the AA -more a sort of mild criticism. His point could be quite valid, but as I dont know the ins and outs, I'll refrain from siding either way.
  23. Nothing wrong with Hilift alloy wedges. I find the plastic ones break apart under my enthusiastic belting with a maul.
  24. Nice work Dave!
  25. Your mad mate. Stark raving mad. You should fit in well round here. Any tractor will do, as long as it runs.
