  1. Sorry to hear that Ben, was this lot knicked from your yard or home? Its scary just whats occuring at the moment.
  2. Right go and look on the dvla web page but this is how we understood this when we had to look at with the CC when I worked for them, AS a post 97 test taker you can drive any vehicle upto 3500kgs gross vehicle weight a vehicle upto 35ookg gross vehicle weight with a 750kg unbraked trailer to take gross train weight to 4250kg. now it gets more technical you can tow a trailer thats heavier than 750kg provided its braked and that the vehicle and trailer gross train weight is 3500kg or less so for example you could drive a vehicle thats gross v.ehicle weight is 2600kg and a trailer thats 900kg gross. in a situation like I have explained the trailer must be plated with its gross weight which when added to the gross of the vehicle doesn't exceed 3500kg. so you can't drive a Land rover 90 with say a 14' ifor trailer even if its empty because your under 3500kg as both the gross weights of the trailer are over 3500kg combined! hope that makes sense I've tried to explain it as simple as possible but I am in a rush to get away for new year. its all on the DVLA web pages. I can find a link tomorrow.
  3. All he had to do if he didn't understand the law was ask to see the paper part of your licence! As huck says stand your ground, have you thought of printing the info off the DVLA web page that explains exactly what you can and can't tow and keep it in your snap bag or something? it at least gives your argument some clout if your stopped again.
  4. Quite a few Aebi's around here County council highways use em for mowing embankments and EA use them for flood bank work
  5. in short NO! but it does depend on who what where and why.
  6. I was in the same boat when I did mine. and your right alot is about general driving. look for markers on the floor to gauge lengths for reversing and recoupling
  7. No offence but don't take that attitude to the test. You have to drive to the standard required to pass any other test driving test. Keep a cool head, and drive well on the road and yep the manouvers are simple again reversing is ok be wary of the un/recouple. When asked to recouople treat the trailer as one you have never used before carry out a visual inspection and make sure you check the trailer hand brake is ON! before reversing up to it. I know 5 people that have failed, 1) hit the trailer hard on the recouple (major fault) 2) failed on lack of mirrors and indications 1) failed kerb clipping 1) failed for falling short of the hatched area on reversing area
  8. your right peter it would an if i ever had the dosh and correct licence i'd go for a double drive 8 wheeler with crane winch etc etc, but back in reality!................... lol
  9. I'm very jealous peter! that will be one hell of a truck when its kitted out.

    Stihl MS180

I had an 017 for a while its a handy little saw to keep by a chipper and cheap to replace if nicked when backs are turned. its also good to learn on.
  12. My best presents, A new swiss wenger pen knife A Britains Ertal John Deere forwarder (apparently santa ain't strong enough to bring a realone on hus sleigh!)
  13. In some aspects your right but you'd be suprised at how often it isn't reasonably practicable, down to site access, Underground services overhead cales, weight limits etc etc, with river work sods law says trees come down where ya can't get at them, ut we allways look for a way to get the excavator or tractor and winch in if we can.
  14. this is my favourite way of removal, no rigging or slinging!
  15. Yes but it was in-house.
  16. The local large LA contractor here uses Merc 7.5tonners and they are as good a advert as any mog, clean and smart with some nice finnishing touches they get noticed. I'd look at Merc or MAN I say MAN as a mate runs two delivering plant they work harder than any arb truck ever will and he has very little problem with them and can get them in the tightest entrances, A decent driver helps though!
  17. If we are talking a full list of our safety precautions its something like this, Life Jacket Throwline First aid kit, survival bag, foil blanket Chainsaw trousers type C Boots, wellies or waders chainsaw protective Chainsaw jacket if appilicable chainsaw on strop Bio chain oil hand wipes/hot water & soap tractor or land rover winch possibly a boat a very detailed emergency plan we also have to take into account water levels and flow rates etc. I agree winching out is best but they usually means someone has to go in first anyway to sling/rig it the list above isn't exhaustive it smost of the daily precautions and I'm bound to have missed a few on crimbo wind down
  18. Jim, I think if we knew the half of what was in our rivers we would never go in! I love the big windblown willows we get to take out its all ways good fun watching a newbie try and sling a tree the first time without getting wet, then its the rigging and winching that makes it interesting when they are stubbon!
  19. I saw in water most days and have been known to have a dry suit on over usual PPE but in most cases its type C trousers and chainsaw waders oh and a life jacket. I like Andy's idea of pumping out if only I could do that on main river LOL!

  21. Think theres a bit more to that than a standard brick lorry, if its like the MAN version the Leccy board uses here, difflocks, cross locks, 4wd filthy great winch tremendous fun to drive off road!
  22. Completely off topic but why does the phone allways ring just as ya start to bleed? mine rang today a milisecond after cutting meself with a silky! result cut finger and phone covered in blood!
