Even then, on large chunks I tend to do a very small step, (aided by a wedge), and then break the step, settle the chunk on the butt, and then work it off in the intended direction, giving it the appropriate amount of push to aid landing flat as it goes.

I understand the principle but can't really see making an extra cut being worthwhile. Will try it out and report back though.

Interesting Tony, there are lots of newer properties in East Cambs with trees covered by planning conditions. If the property has been signed off by planning, and sold by developer to owner occupier, what sanctions does the LA have available against breaches of planning condition?

I don't agree about the test being easier in a 7.5 tonner, if you go for that instead of the full C I think your wasting your money. There is an element of luck, but every time (except one)I have failed a test there has been a good reason.

There is no point doing the test just to get C1, you might as well do the full C test, as it is exactly the same test and very similar training costs. Whichever you do, you won't be able to tow a trailer unless you also do the corresponding E test. (C1+E or C+E).

Only worth it if you need it. Some contractors absolutely insist on it, to the point where you can't even get on site to quote without one.

Even at the height of the shipping blockade, when rationing was at its tightest and golf courses were being ploughed up to plant vegetables, the UK only managed to produce 50% of the food it needed. Surely another world war and a bit of old fashioned anarchy is the solution to the problem though? Survival of the fittest, ie shotgun and land owners with enough knowledge to feed themselves until the zombie apocalypse blows over.

Tick the little box at the top and it will tick all the little boxes in one go, then select delete from the drop down menu at the bottom.

If your on flat solid ground then a self propelled boom is usually the quickest way, no set up time and you can drive it around while the basket is elevated.

I have used ratchet straps on some fairly well split trees. Not too say they would have done the job in this case, didn't see the tree so can't really make a judgement. I am fairly certain I would have felled it though, since avoidance of work at height is preferable to using a mewp in the hse risk management guidelines. Plus it's more fun.

From the cosy perspective of hindsight, if it didn't fail while being dismantled from a mewp, if wouldn't have failed while being climbed. An extra 75kg, or 95 kg in la land, of climber loading wouldn't make that much difference, and a few ratchet straps go a long way. Could it have been felled in one? (I appreciate the leaving a standing stem part)

Put a fair bit through my Quad Chip, by which I mean watched someone else put a fair bit through. Bigger chipper would be ideal though.

Hilux I always find a little agricultural and have a low towing weight, but do seem reliable. L200 I hate the driving position, very low seat but that might suit taller drivers as you will have more head room. Also build quality seems poor on some, bumpers and wheel arch trim falling off etc. I know you said year old, but my recommendation would be the new Isuzu D Max, best value for money pick up on the market right now IMO.
