  1. Quite right, we moan about not being taken seriously as a profession, and then do things like that. Whatever happened to client confidentiality?
  2. http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/LockStitch_Whipping.pdf
  3. Nope, numbers have never been my strong point!
  4. Oops, yes 16 strand is what I should have said there, in fact the only 12 strand around that I know of is XTC 12
  5. Do yourself a favour and buy some new rope to practise with. Old rope is much more difficult to splice, it might put you off for life!
  6. What, no rock sliders? Seriously, thats a nice looking machine. Welcome to the site btw.
  7. I'm using Icetail for my FL strop at its doing pretty well. Bit less bulky than tenex.
  8. Nice. It is hard to weigh up a job like that from a photo or two. Obviously everyone on here feels they could easily do it in a day, which is probably the case, and they would be happy with a certain amount for that day's work. I would always put enough on a job like that to cover going back if neccessary, that way you dont lose out if there is an unforeseen problem, and if you are correct and its an easy day, then you're quids in.
  9. Just been looking the Armillatox website. The "UK" site markets the product as a soap based outdoor cleaner, as the cost of pesticide licensing has become prohibitive. If you go on the worldwide website however, you will find lots of information on using the product to control honey fungus ect. Worth a read through, while bearing in mind the source of the information obviously! From their website "Armillatox is made from the finest polyalkyl phenolic types available emulsified in the purest vegetable oil soap. It is therefore a NATURAL product which will enhance the soil rather than pollute it, i.e. it is completely bio-degradable. Remember that these polyalkyl phenolic types are obtained from plant life and it is the polyalkyl phenolic types in growing plants which give them their natural resistance to diseases. In order to maximise the fungicidal, insecticidal and herbicidal power of the material while keeping the phototoxicity low, it was necessary to exploit the synergism of a blend of over 100 fractions of polyalkyl phenolic types. The complex mixture ensures that not only is the spectrum of control very wide but that resistant strains of the attack cannot evolve."
  10. Armillatox makes a white emulsion, and smells just as you describe. It is certainly effective on honey fungus, trouble is it is extremely non-selective!

  12. I cant attribute any of my injuries to treework, still have the odd ache and pain!

I like it, but what does your Mum think about you keeping it on the kitchen worktop?
  19. Hiring is expensive on the face of it, but, everytime you hire a chipper, the client pays for it, not you. If you hire a machine for a day you should be guaranteed a full days work from a fully functioning machine that you dont have to tinker with to make it work. Buying a cheap chipper may cost you more in downtime, repairs, and spares. Just some thoughts to throw into the mix, at the end of the day its a business decision and its your business!
  20. With reference to hitch cord, performance as a hitch, and the melting point of the cord in a slip to grab situation are pretty important too. A MBS of 15kN isnt unrealistic though, I would have thought that most 8mm cords would easily achieve that.
  21. Close enough.
  22. Assuming it was fairly close to the building, all had to be rigged, and required 3 men on site for a day, then £950 minimum.
  23. Looks smart Stu, what are you upgrading to?
  24. One kN is equivalent to to a static load of 100 kg. Therefore 22kN is equivalent to a static load of 2.2 tonnes. The difference is that a kilogramme is measurement of mass, whereas a kilonewton is a measurement of force. Therefore if you drop a 1 kg weight, it exerts more than 1 kN of force on impact, even though its mass remains the same.
  25. One should also bear in mind that control of armillaria is not an approved use of Armillatox, although it is still available as a high strength disinfectant. Unauthorised use of Armillatox would be frowned upon by the authorities that regulate pesticide use.
