  1. No, AHS had the lot. The whole contract was for 2000 trees, most of them big gnarly old pops, and they chipped every stick for biomass. Our job was only a drop in the ocean really.
  2. Burnt in Belgium.
  3. Who, the RAF? Wasnt much time for fancypants eco arbery, at the price we did that job for the client counted it a bonus if the right trees had the right things done to them! The cleanup wasnt too bad, with a 14 tonne excavator and grapple, and a 300hp 30"x36" chipper.
  4. Slight optical illusion there, the foreshortening effect makes it seem that way.
  5. Cheers. One of those pics is actually Ed climbing, we had a bit of a contest going to see who could knock off the biggest chunk, which ended up with us spiking up 4 metres and felling whole trees. Great fun!
  6. Heres a little taster...
  7. I"ll do it for you Charlie, Mr Ed an I pollarded and felled over a hundred manchester pops last year. I'm sure he'll get some pics up for you. The trees we pollarded at 4 metres were basically standing deadwood, there was little expectation of them ever regrowing, although they all had a bacterial leaf disease.
  8. Can I borrow that sometime Matt, I could do with learning something useful for a change!
  9. Actually, its not that wide or impressive looking, just very tall and perfectly in proportion. Its in Dorset, and its the tallest broadleaf in the uk. Stealth climbing only....

  12. Seems to be an option missing in your poll Steve.......
  13. Actually it was a glorious day, up near Blackburn, once the mist had gone. Driving back into Manchester was like going into low cloud though, grey and gloomy!
  14. Todays wee gem. Heavily decayed beech on steep slope over river. Everything roped down onto the path on the left.
  15. I can only imagine that he is referring to Jeremy Barrell, the eminent arb consultant, since that is the occasion I can think of where that spelling is used. Still doesnt make any sense though!

More of a minimix than a mashup really [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nYKKmI9q--A&feature=related]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nYKKmI9q--A&feature=related[/ame]
  17. A low profile stealthy ninja style night climb? Sounds interesting!
  18. Velocity Tenex Yale Silver Streak Yale XTC
  19. Have used it, dont buy the stitched eye and eye cords until you've tried it. You can buy it by the metre, and then if you really like, and you've worked out what length works best for you, then it might be worth buying some.
  20. Just to clarify, I am talking about trees not protected by TPO or conservation area.
  21. If you think it was right to dob him in you're in the wrong job. We get paid to cut trees. If you want to be a tree hugger then go over to the other side and work as a tree officer. You dont see defence lawyers standing up in court and saying, actually your honour, my client did bash his wife wife the poker so i'm not going to defend him any more. You do the best job you can do for your client, and if your conscience cant handle that then you are in the wrong profession.
  22. I must say I love the newer DMM locksafe biners. The quality of the finish is just exceptional. The Sentinel is a particular favourite.
  23. Velocity is a piece of cake, I can milk it in by hand no problem. In fact it practically walks in by itself!
