  1. Velocity Tenex Yale Silver Streak Yale XTC
  2. Have used it, dont buy the stitched eye and eye cords until you've tried it. You can buy it by the metre, and then if you really like, and you've worked out what length works best for you, then it might be worth buying some.
  3. Just to clarify, I am talking about trees not protected by TPO or conservation area.
  4. If you think it was right to dob him in you're in the wrong job. We get paid to cut trees. If you want to be a tree hugger then go over to the other side and work as a tree officer. You dont see defence lawyers standing up in court and saying, actually your honour, my client did bash his wife wife the poker so i'm not going to defend him any more. You do the best job you can do for your client, and if your conscience cant handle that then you are in the wrong profession.
  5. I must say I love the newer DMM locksafe biners. The quality of the finish is just exceptional. The Sentinel is a particular favourite.
  6. Velocity is a piece of cake, I can milk it in by hand no problem. In fact it practically walks in by itself!
  7. Quite right, we moan about not being taken seriously as a profession, and then do things like that. Whatever happened to client confidentiality?
  8. http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/LockStitch_Whipping.pdf
  9. Nope, numbers have never been my strong point!
  10. Oops, yes 16 strand is what I should have said there, in fact the only 12 strand around that I know of is XTC 12
  11. Do yourself a favour and buy some new rope to practise with. Old rope is much more difficult to splice, it might put you off for life!
  12. What, no rock sliders? Seriously, thats a nice looking machine. Welcome to the site btw.
  13. I'm using Icetail for my FL strop at its doing pretty well. Bit less bulky than tenex.
  14. Nice. It is hard to weigh up a job like that from a photo or two. Obviously everyone on here feels they could easily do it in a day, which is probably the case, and they would be happy with a certain amount for that day's work. I would always put enough on a job like that to cover going back if neccessary, that way you dont lose out if there is an unforeseen problem, and if you are correct and its an easy day, then you're quids in.
  15. Just been looking the Armillatox website. The "UK" site markets the product as a soap based outdoor cleaner, as the cost of pesticide licensing has become prohibitive. If you go on the worldwide website however, you will find lots of information on using the product to control honey fungus ect. Worth a read through, while bearing in mind the source of the information obviously! From their website "Armillatox is made from the finest polyalkyl phenolic types available emulsified in the purest vegetable oil soap. It is therefore a NATURAL product which will enhance the soil rather than pollute it, i.e. it is completely bio-degradable. Remember that these polyalkyl phenolic types are obtained from plant life and it is the polyalkyl phenolic types in growing plants which give them their natural resistance to diseases. In order to maximise the fungicidal, insecticidal and herbicidal power of the material while keeping the phototoxicity low, it was necessary to exploit the synergism of a blend of over 100 fractions of polyalkyl phenolic types. The complex mixture ensures that not only is the spectrum of control very wide but that resistant strains of the attack cannot evolve."
  16. Armillatox makes a white emulsion, and smells just as you describe. It is certainly effective on honey fungus, trouble is it is extremely non-selective!

  18. I cant attribute any of my injuries to treework, still have the odd ache and pain!
  19. That reverse felling cut on the backleaner is very cool, you need to be very confident in the accuracy of your cuts though!
  20. Ok, no-one likes Matt!

I like it, but what does your Mum think about you keeping it on the kitchen worktop?
  25. Hiring is expensive on the face of it, but, everytime you hire a chipper, the client pays for it, not you. If you hire a machine for a day you should be guaranteed a full days work from a fully functioning machine that you dont have to tinker with to make it work. Buying a cheap chipper may cost you more in downtime, repairs, and spares. Just some thoughts to throw into the mix, at the end of the day its a business decision and its your business!
